Norma Louise Swain, 95

Norma Louise Swain, 95, of Mount Camel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at home surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on July 25, 1930, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Grant Kermit and Helen Fern (Peterson) McTaggart. Norma married Randall Swain on August 27, 1947, Mount Carmel and together they enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage before his passing on January 15, 2015.

Norma was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family above all else. She took great pride in her three wonderful children and deeply treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren. A faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Norma began serving at just fourteen years old, assisting her mother with Sunday School. Over the years, her dedication only grew; she served on the church board and held various leadership roles. She loved singing in the church from a young age and continued as a member of the choir for thirty years. She was also an active and committed member of the United Methodist Women. Even in her later years, Norma’s love for family and simple joys remained strong. When celebrating her 95th birthday, Norma chose to gather her loved ones for a July wiener roast, creating a warm and memorable time together.

Norma will be remembered by her son, Charles Swain and wife, Karen; grandchildren, April (Kent) Swain Hawley, Shawn (Cara Weaver) Swain, Jack Randall Swain, Zach (Jill) Hunt and T.J. (Marissa) Hunt; great grandchildren, Taylor (Jordan) Byrns, Cicely Reese, Logan (Mya) Johnson, Kannon Stangle, Jaxton Swain, Gavin (Kaylee) Swain, Tullulah Swain, and Rilynn Swain; great-great grandchildren, Alexis Bertram, Brooklyn Bertram, Maddux Hunt, Adailynn Schultz, Ryder Carsey, Beckett Byrns, Leighton Reese, and Sydney Swain; many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jack Randall Swain; daughter, Kristen Leah Swain; sisters, Barbara McChesney and Jean Ann Ahlfeld.

Krista Aaron, 78

Krista Aaron, known lovingly by so many as "Gummy," passed away on March 24, 2026, at the age of 78. She was born on March 6, 1948, in Freeport, Illinois, and had been living in Grayville, Illinois. Gummy was, above all else, a mom. A grandma. A great grandma. A best friend. She was the kind of person who gave you her honest ear whenever you needed it, whether you were ready to hear the truth or not. She was heartfelt and enthusiastic, with a sarcastic streak that could make you laugh until you cried. Honesty wasn't just something she valued; it was who she was, down to the bone. If you knew Krista, you knew exactly where you stood with her, and most people found themselves standing right in the middle of her enormous heart.

Gummy dedicated her professional life to caring for others as a nurse, a calling that suited her generous spirit perfectly. Outside of work, she poured herself into the people and things she loved most. Her puppies were her constant companions. She lived for spending time with all her babies, grown and littles alike. She loved listening to music and making memories at concerts with Colin, Nette, and her BBR. And if you ever needed to find her, there was a good chance she had a Coca-Cola close at hand. Gummy will be remembered by her daughter, Amy Christine (Garrel) Knight; her son, Aaron Colin (Rita) Ritchey; grandchildren, KC, Jacob, Alex, Bryan, and Jonathon; several great grandchildren; niece, Nanette (Raymond) Maher; and beloved friends who were lucky enough to call her theirs.

Gummy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. and Bertha (Krueger) Weir; four brothers; and two sisters; Gummy walked through this life with faith, and her family finds peace knowing she is resting now in the arms of the Lord she trusted. As the song goes, "Someone told me long ago, there's a calm before the storm. I know, it's been comin' for some time. When it's over, so they say, it'll rain a sunny day. I know, shinin' down like water." Gummy, you were the sunshine. You were the calm. And you will shine down on all of us for the rest of our days.

George Irwin Wright, 83

George Irwin Wright, 83, of Allendale, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at River Oaks Health Campus surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on June 23, 1942, in Bellmont, Illinois, the son of George and Murrell Ethel (Stoltz) Wright. He married Sarah Risley on May 8, 1965, and together they enjoyed sixty years of marriage centered on their family.

George loved his family deeply and cherished every moment spent with them. He especially enjoyed the outdoors, with hobbies that included deer hunting, fishing, camping, and simply spending time in nature. George devoted over forty years of service to Wabash Valley Service Company, where he held a variety of positions throughout his career. He retired as an LP Sales Manager, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, and hard work. George was a devoted member of Lancaster Christian Church of Christ, where he faithfully served as an elder. He also served on the board for Lancaster Christian School. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

George will be remembered by his wife, Sarah; four sons, Greg Wright and wife, Charlotte, James Wright and wife, Vicki, Michael Wright and wife, Cindy, Adam (Nikki Gillihan) Wright; grandchildren, Cecilee (Joe) Book, Seth (Aleesha) Wright, Austin Wright, Becka Wright, Cordell Wright, Douglas (Mary) Campbell, Brookelyn (John A.) Ray Williams, 94

Ray Williams, 94, of Geff, Illinois passed away on March 22, 2026, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side.

He was born on June 16, 1931, in Berryville, Illinois at the Bonpas Township, Richland County, Illinois. He was the son of Wallace and Effie (McNair) Williams. He married Rose Parker on January 19, 1958, in Decatur, Illinois and they had 68 wonderful years together.

Ray served his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years from December 1951 until August 1955, where he was an aircraft electrician and after an honorable discharge from the Air Force he continued with the civil service for 34 years at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois and Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was a member of the Ellery Christian Church in Ellery, Illinois. After retiring, he enjoyed working on his farm and also he and Rose enjoyed going to Quartzsite, Arizona where they camped and managed the campsite.

Ray is survived by his wife, Rose Williams, son, Raymond (Karen) Cook of Petersburg, Illinois, son, Keith Wallace (Veronica) Williams of Sugar Land, Texas and son-in-law, Theodore Bachman of Monticello, Illinois. Also surviving are grandchildren, Roseana Johnson, Tiffany Cook, Rosemary Pagliaro, Chloe Kathryn Williams, Regan Rose Williams, great-grandchildren, Kahlan, Ariana, Carman, Peyton Rose, Kendall, Christian and two great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kathryn Bachman, brothers, Maynard Williams, Charles F. Williams, Ward Williams, sister, Eleanor Seitz, and one grandson, Cohan Willms.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 27, 2026, from 1:00 p.m.– 2:00 p.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home.

Larry G. Benham, 87

Larry G. Benham, 87, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by his family. Larry was born on March 21, 1938, in Allendale, Illinois, the son of Nolan Theron and Pauline May (Glazier) Benham. Larry graduated from Allendale High School Class of 1956 and attended college at the University of Illinois, Elgin Community College and Wabash Valley College.

Larry married Esther (Lynch) Benham on July 10, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Allendale. They celebrated fifty-five years of marriage in 2008. Larry and Esther were the parents of Robert Michael (Linda) Benham of North Carolina, Debra G. Benham of Keensburg, IL, Lisa Smith (Bill) of Clarksville, TN, and Lori (Stephen) Tharp of Nashville, TN.

Surviving is his wife of ten years, Jane Benham, whom he married on September 5, 2015, at First Church of the Nazarene in Mt. Carmel, IL, his children, Robert (Linda) Benham, Lisa (Bill) Smith, and Lori (Stephen) Tharp, and his brother, Paul (Sophrona) Benham. Surviving grandchildren are Jennifer Raines, James McClellan, Jacquelyn McClellan, Bethany Partee, Billy Gene Smith, Carli (Tharp)Taylor, Kyler Tharp, and Connor Tharp. Surviving great-grandchildren are Lillian Partee, Jayden Partee, Hunter Pratt, Tristan Pratt, Lora McClellan, Trae James, and Olivia Cormier.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Esther Benham, his daughter, Debra Benham, his brothers, Jerry Benham and Robert Benham, and great-granddaughter, Megan McClellan.

Larry held many occupations during his lifetime. He lived and worked in the Chicago area in a factory management position with the Chicago Rawhide Corporation for many years. After moving to Mt. Carmel, he worked at Meissner’s Manufacturing, Snap-on Tools, and worked as a Jewel Tea Salesman, Wabash County Deputy Sheriff, and served as Wabash County Circuit Clerk for nineteen years.

Larry enjoyed watching baseball, fishing, amateur radio, photography, playing guitar, dobro guitar, and singing. He was a long-time member of Mt. Carmel First Church of the Nazarene, where he served faithfully as a Sunday School Superintendent and Treasurer, played guitar and sang. He was well-known for sharing his music with others at community events, nursing homes, music festivals, competitions and he became a 5-time Indiana State Champion dobro player.

William “Gene” Sanders, 72

William “Gene” Sanders, 72, of Allendale, Illinois passed away on March 17, 2026, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.

He was born on March 17, 1954, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. He was the son of William D. and Ida Ellen (Williams) Sanders. Lisa Witsman Wilkinson was his life partner.

“Gene” worked as a carpenter and builder throughout his life, a Mr. Fix it. He loved to go fishing, mushroom hunting, boating, motorcycle riding and hanging out on the river with his family and friends. “Gene” always had a story to tell, a joke to crack and would help anyone and everyone who needed it all while whistling or singing a tune. He attended Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Mt. Carmel.

He is survived by his children, Deonna Sanders, Lachrista Lutz, and Ashley Wilkinson and bonus children, Jacob and Clyde Wilkinson, sister, Cheryl Windes. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brooklyn Potts, Justin Prater, Jessilynn Lutz, Bethany Lutz, Raiden Doan, Logan Wilkinson and Lonna Wilkinson and 5 great-grandchildren.

“Gene” was preceded in death by his parents, his life partner, Lisa Witsman Wilkinson and two stillborn sisters, Stacy Don Sanders and Alicia Shawn Sanders and sister, Sandra Parrott.

Per Gene’s wishes, he will be cremated and laid to rest at Highland Memorial Cemetery in the Garden Mausoleum. There will be no formal services.

Paula J. Hensley, 77

Paula J. Hensley, 77, of Princeton, Indiana passed away on March 13, 2026, at her home.

She was born on October 27, 1948, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She was the daughter of Arthur Clinton and Phyllis Joan (Armstrong) Hensley.

Paula graduated from Oakland City University in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in childhood education. She worked as a preschool teacher at a daycare and an inspector for Federal Assembly, Inc. and an inspector for Product Action.

She was a member of Columbia General Baptist Church in Princeton, Indiana. It is there that she loved serving as a Sunday School teacher, youth director and the missionary secretary.

Paula loved to crochet and knit in her spare time.

She is survived by her brother, Robert “Steve” (Marcia) Hensley, sister, Pamela Sue (Dennis) Doner, sister, Kathryn Annette (Joe) Dauz.

Preceded in death by her parents, brothers, David Arthur Hensley and Dana Keith Hensley, sister, Linda Kay (Hensley) Reed, nephew, Michael Ryan Hensley, niece, Faith Isabelle Savory.

Charles Adams, 85

Charles Adams, 85, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Wabash General Hospital, with the love of his family by his side. He was born at home on February 8, 1941, in Mount Carmel, the son of Alfred and Mildred (Hall) Adams. He married Barbara Hedge on August 22, 1958, in Shawneetown, IL and they were blessed with sixty-seven years of a loving marriage.

Charles was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family deeply. He was a hard worker and took great pride in his work in the oilfields, retiring as a tool pusher. Charles enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and spending time at Adams Fish Shack by the river visiting with others. He also enjoyed woodworking and took pride in making things with his hands. He was a member of Heartland Worship Center. Charles will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mark Allan Stovall, 56

Mark Allan Stovall, 56, of Sumner, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on December 4, 1969, in Vincennes, Indiana, the son of Raphael and Dorothy (Joseph) Stovall. He graduated from Lawrenceville High School Class of 1988. Mark married Debra Carson on September 30, 2017.

Mark will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and PopPop who cherished the time he spent with his family. He especially enjoyed keeping up with his grandchildren and being part of their lives. Mark was also known for his great sense of humor. A true jokester, he loved making people laugh and was always ready to pull off a good prank. His playful spirit brought smiles to those around him. Mark was a true outdoorsman who always looked forward to deer hunting, and he also enjoyed squirrel hunting and mushroom hunting. Being outdoors was one of the things he loved most. Mark was known as a very hard worker and took great pride in his career as a truck driver. Over the years, he worked at Road Master and the Walmart Distribution Center, where he made many lasting friendships. Mark was also very proud of his Stovall family name and the legacy it represents. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Jean (Adams) Wood, 55

Jean (Adams) Wood, 55, of Mount Carmel, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on February 24, 1971, in Mount Carmel, the daughter of Bob and Lilian “Maxine” (Hufford) Adams.

Jean loved her family deeply, and her grandchildren were truly the light of her life. She especially enjoyed family gatherings at the river, where fish fries brought everyone together and her famous pico de gallo was always a favorite. In her free time, Jean found joy in the simple beauty of the outdoors, often spending hours gardening and caring for the plants she loved. She was especially proud to be a triplet and treasured the unique and lifelong bond she shared with all her siblings. Jean dedicated many years to working in home health and truly loved caring for others. She had a true gift for helping others and took great pride in providing comfort and support to those in need. Jean will be deeply missed by her family and by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Charles Thomas “Tom” Steckler, 90

Charles Thomas “Tom” Steckler passed away on March 6, 2026, in Huntsville, Alabama. He was 90 years old. He lived a full and meaningful life, sharing 62 wonderful years with his devoted wife. His naval career brought him many adventures and remarkable experiences, and at home he was a deeply devoted father who cared generously for his two children. He will be greatly missed.

Tom grew up in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the oldest of four children born to Charles and Mary Ellen Steckler. At Mt. Carmel High School, he distinguished himself as a student and athlete. He was a high school football All-American in the 1952 season, president of the senior class, and a starting forward on the 1952–53 conference co-champion basketball team. He loved his hometown and all of the dear people, stories and culture. This sustained him his whole life and he returned often.

He attended Northwestern University on football and basketball scholarships, where he studied for two years and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

In 1958, Tom joined the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviation Cadet and received his Naval Aviator designation on July 1, 1959. Three days later, he married the former Katherine Curlee Parks of Mobile, Alabama—these were the two best things that ever happened to him.

As a newly commissioned ensign and helicopter pilot, Tom began his naval career in Lakehurst, New Jersey, where he made eleven deployments aboard seven different aircraft carriers. He later served in Pensacola, Florida, as a flight and ground school instructor. During that time, he helped train several Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo astronauts in helicopter techniques designed to simulate the vertical descent used in lunar landings. Dearest, lifelong navy friendships were forged in these two duty stations and would go on to support Tom and Kathy throughout their life.

He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA in 1971.

Over the course of his distinguished 31-year naval career, Captain Steckler held numerous leadership positions, including Deputy Commander of Naval Air Reserve; Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station New Orleans; Director of the Enlisted Performance Division at the Pentagon; Commander of Helicopter Wing Reserve, West Coast; and Commanding Officer of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 11 (HS-11). He logged more than 5,300 flight hours and completed 1,900 landings on twelve aircraft carriers. His service included participation in the Cuban blockade of 1962.

Captain Steckler’s many military honors included the Legion of Merit, two Meritorious Service Medals, the Navy Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Award; and the Navy and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals. He was a lifetime member of the Association of Naval Aviation.

After retiring from the Navy in 1989, Tom began a second career as a math teacher and coach at St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, Alabama, where he served from 1990 to 1998. During his time as boys’ tennis coach, the team won five consecutive state championships.

In 1999, Tom and Kathy moved to Huntsville to be closer to their beloved granddaughter. He enjoyed golf, working for a time in the Redstone Arsenal golf pro shop, playing pickleball, traveling, substitute teaching at Randolph School, and sharing daily happy hours with Kathy.

His family is deeply grateful for the kindness and care shown to Tom in his later years by the staffs of Brookdale Senior Living of Jones Valley and The Goldton Memory Care at Jones Farm.

He is survived by his daughter, Glynn Steckler Below of Huntsville, Alabama; his granddaughter, Ally Below of Brooklyn, New York; his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Norm Duncan of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Chip; his wife, Kathy; and his sister, Sarah Steckler Caddell. His brother, Richard Steckler of Houston, Missouri, passed away just three days following Tom’s death.

A private graveside service with full military honors will be held at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama, at a later date.

Stephen Lynn Windes, 72

Stephen Lynn Windes, 72, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Lawrenceville County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, IL surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 26, 1953, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the son of Howard and Lucy (Gawthorp) Windes.

Stephen had a deep love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed spending time fishing. He truly cherished the moments he shared with his family. Stephen also had a strong passion for cars and loved anything related to them. He spent many years working as a security guard where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. Stephen had a love for animals, especially his dog who was a cherished companion. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Stephen will be remembered by his daughters, Micah Hallbeck, and Stormi Grundon; five grandchildren, Lykon, Avaleigh, Koga, Ezra, and Briar; sister, Diana Windes and husband, Wayne of Allendale; brother, Billy Windes of Mount Carmel; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tommy and Charles Windes; one sister, Karen Odom.

Sharon Eckiss, 81

Sharon Eckiss, 81, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away on February 18, 2026, at Oakview Heights and Rehabilitation.

She was born on February 5, 1945, in Vincennes, Indiana. She was the daughter of Henry and Inez (Shipley) Eckiss. Sharon was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Carmel Church of Christ.

Sharon is survived by cousins, friends at Acorn Estates and her neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Arthur Eckiss.

Saundra “Sandy” Vallandingham, 84

Saundra “Sandy” Vallandingham, 84, of Stonefort, Illinois passed away on February 23, 2026, at SIH Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg, Illinois.

She was born on March 15, 1941, in Princeton, Indiana. Saundra was the daughter of Charles and Helen Keneipp. She married Robert Earl Harms, and after his passing married William Vallandingham.

Saundra worked as a cook at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation, Shurtleff Manor, and United Methodist Village North. She was a very loving, strong, and caring person. She loved her family immensely.

She is survived by her children, James Wayne Harms of Eddyville, IL, Ricky Earl Harms of Noble, IL, Kevin Robert Harms of Eddyville, IL, and Scott Harms of Noble, IL; her sister, Sharon Hansman of Tucson, AZ; her grandchildren, Melony, Kaleb, Josie, Robert, Anthony, Ryan, Troy, River, Brandon, Ashley, and Tanner; and several great-grandchildren, including James, Mason, Chayse, Kaleb, and Hunter.

Saundra was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and her sister, Shirley Iglehart.

Per her wishes, Saundra will be cremated and laid to rest in Highland Memorial Cemetery, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

David Dunn, 75

David Dunn, 75, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away on March 3, 2026 at Oakview Nursing and Rehab in Mt. Carmel surrounded by his loving family.

He was born August 23, 1950, in Evansville, Indiana, the son of Joan (Dunn) Sullivan. He married Liz Hargrave on July 10, 1971, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel; she survives. They were married for 54 years.

Dave retired from Snap-on Tools. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was an avid reader, particularly about history. He loved photography and to travel. He also loved sports, and his favorite teams were the Cincinnati Reds, Green Bay Packers, and Los Angeles Lakers. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Dave is survived by wife, Liz Dunn of Mt. Carmel, and sons Clint Dunn of Mt. Carmel and Tom Dunn of Louisville, KY. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kyle Dunn and Clayton Dunn of Mt. Carmel, and Josie, Max, and Violet Dunn of Louisville.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Sullivan, and his stepfather, Dan Sullivan.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home.

Robert L. Hinderliter, 86

Robert L. Hinderliter, 86, of West Salem, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at his residence surrounded by the love of his family. Bob was born on September 19, 1939, in Wabash County, Illinois, the son of Wayne Robert and Lois Jean (Strine) Hinderliter.

Bob retired from farming, a life he truly loved. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and took great pride in gardening and caring for his flowers. Bob also enjoyed fishing with family and friends, making many cherished memories along the way. A very social person, Bob always looked forward to going out to eat and spending time with others. He dearly loved his faithful companion, his dog Molly. Bob attended Christ Chapel in Evansville. Above all, the most important thing in Bob’s life was his family, and his grandchildren held a very special place in his heart.

Bob will be remembered by his three grandsons, Robert “L.B.” (Heather Davis) Hinderliter, Ryan Wayne (Rachal Zeeb) Hinderliter, and Dereck Lynn Hinderliter; sister, Ann Wood and husband, Gary; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Hinderliter.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Robert “Tudy” Hinderliter, Brian Hinderliter and Lynn Hinderliter.

Robert M. Stoltz, 76

Robert M. Stoltz, 76, of Freelandville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Glenburn Senior Living in Linton, Indiana. He was born on November 23, 1949, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the son of Robert A. and Helen F. (Renner) Stoltz. Robert was married to Patricia A. Strange on November 23, 1969, and together they enjoyed fifty-six years of marriage centered on their family.

Robert dedicated many years of his career to working as a salesman in the industrial supply business. He was well known for his love of bowling and spent many years actively involved in a bowling league in Vincennes, Indiana. Robert earned numerous awards for his accomplishments in the sport and faithfully served as the treasurer of his bowling league for many years. He was also a member of the American Bowling Association. Outside of bowling, Robert enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He rarely missed a chance to attend their sporting events and took great pride in supporting them in all their activities.

Robert will be remembered by his wife, Patricia A. Stoltz; son, Robert “Randy” Stoltz; grandchildren, Karina Stoltz and Lucas Stoltz; brother, Kenny Stoltz and wife, Diana.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. Stoltz and Helen F. Stoltz; and sister, Denise Stoltz.

Thomas Lee Casburn, 76

Thomas Lee Casburn, 76, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on February 26, 2026. He was born on February 18, 1950, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, to parents Richard “Buck” Wendell Casburn and Elizabeth “Betty” Ellen (Archer) Casburn.

Tom grew up in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the second eldest of four brothers. The stories of these brothers are infamous throughout town, and chances are high, in Mt. Carmel, when you hear the last name Casburn, a story or two comes to mind! Tom was a proud member of the graduating class of 1968 and was involved in football, track, and many pranks...if you know, you know! Upon graduation Tom attended some classes at Wabash Valley College before completing a bachelor's degree at the University of Maryland. Tom’s dream was to become an FBI agent, and for a time he was employed in D.C. with the FBI as an agent in training.

On June 30, 1973, Tom married Pamela June (Dallas) Casburn, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, with whom he shared many adventures. Together, they created a loving family welcoming their sons, Matthew and Brandon, who became a source of great pride and joy in Tom's life. As a father, Tom was involved as the boys' sports coach, scout leader, and Sunday school teacher. It was through his love in action that Matt and Brandon experienced their dad as a Christ-follower, leader and example from which to model their own lives of active service.

Post his stint with the FBI, Tom came back to Illinois to work in the oil industry serving as a pipeline inspector for 22 years. His work ethic (inherited from his father Buck) was strong, and his commitment to safety and quality assurance in the industry earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and peers. In 1991 Tom moved his family to Findlay, Ohio for work. While in Findlay, Tom continued his community involvement through volunteering with youth football programs, church leadership at the First Baptist Church, and many hours volunteering for FFE show choir events.

After the passing of his wife (Pam) in 2011 and his retirement in 2017, Tom moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to be closer to family. Being a “Papaw” was one of Tom’s greatest joys in life, and his Grandkids gave him a new spark and purpose after the loss of Pam. He looked forward to any and every opportunity to spend time with them! Like any good Grandparent, he made it his mission to spoil those kids rotten!

The past nearly ten years Tom was involved with Grace Church as a “Grunt” at the Jordan YMCA church plant, and most recently as a greeter. Tom never met a stranger, and he was never without a good story to tell. Though he rarely smiled in pictures, his grin was always friendly and inviting. The Jordan YMCA was also his “post-retirement” career. He worked at the front desk faithfully where he was so much more than just the guy swiping a card and letting people into the building. He loved his job and the community that he was a part of at the Jordan Y. As his sons, we are forever grateful for that YMCA community as it gave him purpose and a place to belong.

Tom is survived by his sons, Matthew D. (Katy) Casburn and Brandon L. (Jenny) Casburn; his grandchildren Cora Casburn, Dublin Casburn, Wesley Casburn and Pippa

Casburn; his brother, Bill (Laveta) Casburn, his nephew or “brother” Richard Lee (Sarah) Casburn; and his brother-in-law, Dave (Marjorie) Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pamela “Pam” (Dallas) Casburn; his parents; his mother and father-in-law Violet and W.C. “Dub” Dallas; his brothers, Richard (Paulette) Casburn and Tim Casburn; and his nephew, or “brother”, Joe Casburn.

A visitation for Tom will take place in Noblesville, Indiana, from 11am -1pm (EASTERN TIME) on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Grace Church, 5504 E 146th St, Noblesville, IN 46062, in the South Auditorium, with a funeral service immediately following at 1pm.

Barbara J. Day, 86

Barbara J. Day, 86, of Robinson, IL, passed away on March 1, 2026, in the comfort of her home. She was born on August 19, 1939, in Indianapolis, IN, and grew up in Mount Carmel, IL, where she graduated from Mount Carmel High School with the Class of 1958. On May 25th of that same year, she married Jerry C. Day in Fairfield, IL, and together, they began building a life centered on hard work and caring for others, especially their family.

Barb worked in a number of capacities over the years, including at L.S. Heath & Sons and Phillippe Grocery. Later, she and Jerry started, owned, and operated Paint and Sawdust, a craft business that took them to shows for years before she retired. She was simple and down-to-earth, the kind of person who worked hard, never gave up, and put others ahead of herself without hesitation. That was especially true at home. Barb wanted to be the best mother and grandmother she could be, and she lived that out in countless practical ways. She was always there for her children and grandchildren, ready to help however she could, with a kindness of heart that always made them feel loved.

Much of that love was shared around the table. Barb was a very good cook and loved baking cookies for the whole family at Christmastime. Her butterhorn rolls and cherry cheesecake were always a favorite part of Thanksgiving, and those simple acts of care became some of the memories her family will hold closest. In fact, that was just the way Barb moved through life: always nurturing, always looking for someone to care for, and always finding quiet ways to make life better for those around her. That same gentle heart extended beyond people, too. Barb had a special place in her heart for animals. She enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels that found their way to her home, and she was especially devoted to her beloved dogs, Bonnie and Clyde.

That was Barb. Simple, caring, and always thinking of others. She showed her love in everyday ways, and those beautiful, modest acts of kindness are what her family will remember most.

She is survived by her children, Debra (Jeff) Hess, Natalie (Mike) Knoblett, and Jerry (Tina) Day; by her grandchildren, Amy (Debbie) Hess, Kerry (Deric) Tittle, Christopher (Amanda) Thurman, Mike (Kristen) Thurman, Justin Thurman, Travis (Fannie) Knoblett, Alexander Day, and Zachary Day; by thirteen great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; as well as her beloved dogs, Bonnie and Clyde. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Jerry C. Day, who passed away on September 26, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Paul Moyer and Audrey (Middleton) Moyer, and her brothers, Wesley Moyer, Jerry Moyer, and Robert Moyer.

It was Barb's wish to be cremated without public services, and her remains will be laid to rest in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mount Carmel. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is assisting the family at this time.

Ronald M. Doan, 86

Ronald M. Doan, 86, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026, at his home. He was born on October 13, 1939, in Hammond, Indiana, the son of John Haskel “Hack” and Mary Eloise (Hawkins) Doan. Ron attended Purdue University before graduating from University of Nebraska at Omaha with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. Ron faithfully served his Country in the United States Air Force. After his service, he stayed in Vietnam while contracted to construct China Beach where he met the love of his life, Tho Dinh Thi. They were married on November 2, 1969, and she survives.

Ron loved staying active and took pride in keeping himself moving, often spending time exercising and riding his stationary bike, which he put many miles on over the years. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing at Mesa Lake, where he made many fond memories. He also played men’s softball and basketball, embracing both the competition and camaraderie of the games. He worked for Snap On Tools for over twenty years. Ron cherished supporting his grandson, Bret, in his sporting activities. Ron will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

Ron will be remembered by his wife, Tho Doan; son, Timothy C. Doan and wife, Holly; grandchildren, Bret Doan, Sean P. Collins and Summer Eliza Collins.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Theodore “Ted” Doan.
