Ronald M. Doan, 86, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026, at his home. He was born on October 13, 1939, in Hammond, Indiana, the son of John Haskel “Hack” and Mary Eloise (Hawkins) Doan. Ron attended Purdue University before graduating from University of Nebraska at Omaha with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. Ron faithfully served his Country in the United States Air Force. After his service, he stayed in Vietnam while contracted to construct China Beach where he met the love of his life, Tho Dinh Thi. They were married on November 2, 1969, and she survives.
Ron loved staying active and took pride in keeping himself moving, often spending time exercising and riding his stationary bike, which he put many miles on over the years. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing at Mesa Lake, where he made many fond memories. He also played men’s softball and basketball, embracing both the competition and camaraderie of the games. He worked for Snap On Tools for over twenty years. Ron cherished supporting his grandson, Bret, in his sporting activities. Ron will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
Ron will be remembered by his wife, Tho Doan; son, Timothy C. Doan and wife, Holly; grandchildren, Bret Doan, Sean P. Collins and Summer Eliza Collins.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Theodore “Ted” Doan.
A private family Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be held at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Father Robert Zwilling officiating.
