Michael James “Mike” Hall, 63

Michael James “Mike” Hall, 63, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones, at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. He was born December 23, 1962, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, to Robert L. and Nancy L. (Culley) Hall. He married Kelly Craig on August 20, 1997, and she preceded him in death.

Mike graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1981, earned an associate degree in geology from Lincoln Trail College, in Robinson, Illinois, in 1983, and went on to study at Louisiana Tech, in Ruston, Louisiana. After college, he joined the United States Marine Corps, spending thirteen years on active duty and eleven years in the Indiana National Guard, retiring on July 14, 2007 as Sergeant First Class. During his service in the Marine Corps, Mike served as an aviation structures mechanic with MALS-39, seeing service in Hawaii, Korea, Japan, and San Diego, and while in the National Guard, he was mobilized in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Mike began working at Chrysler in 1996 as a machinist and retired from there in 2024.

An avid golfer, Mike could often be found golfing with his close friends, Brian Piel and James Shipman, and many others. He had a talent for working with his hands and especially enjoyed building intricate models. He loved the outdoors and brought that love into his home with his many plants that he tended. His friends and family will remember how he could tell a story like no one else, recalling the smallest details and bringing each one to life in a way that kept everyone listening.

Survivors include his yorkie, Ellie; sister, DeAndrea (Ronnie) Ford; brother, Chris (Kim) Hall; nephews, Byron Steele, Matthew (Brittany) Steele, and Alexander Hall; niece, Kristin Hall; and great-nephews, Hudson Steele, Connor Steele, and Byron-Elliot Steele.

In addition to his wife, Kelly Hall, he was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nancy Hall.

Mike and his family are grateful for the skilled and compassionate care he was provided by the physicians and nurses at Community Health in Kokomo, Indiana University Medical Center in Carmel, and Paradigm Health in Kokomo.

Jason Woods, 53

Jason Woods, 53, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away on February 23, 2026, at his home surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born on August 20, 1972, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. He was the son of Verlyn Blair Woods and Bettye J. (Colyer) Wright. He married Deanna Burton on April 23, 1994, in Wabash County. They spent 38 wonderful years together and were married for 32 years.

Jason was the Owner/Operator of Woods Electric LLC in Mt. Carmel, Illinois along with his Uncle Neal Woods.

He enjoyed Sunday Night Dinners with his family and friends every Sunday night. He loved to go fishing, mushroom hunting and spending time with his son Nathan riding 4-wheelers. Oaklee, his granddaughter, was the LOVE of his life!

Survived by his wife, Deanna, son, Nathan (Chelsey) Woods, mother Bettye J. (Colyer) Wright, sister, Mary Beth (Diane) Woods, granddaughter, Oaklee Woods and best friend/father figure, Neal Woods.

Jason was preceded in death by his father, Verlyn Blair Woods.

Ellen Riester, 68

Ellen Riester, 68, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Oakview Nursing and Rehab surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on November 7, 1957, in Terre Haute, Indiana, the daughter of Allen and Jamezina (Davis) Dosch.

Ellen proudly and faithfully served her country in the United States Air Force, a commitment that reflected her strength, dedication, and love of country. Following her military service, she spent many years working as a waitress and later as a retail clerk, where her warm smile and kind spirit left a lasting impression on those she served and worked alongside. Above all else, Ellen cherished her family and time spent together at family gatherings brought her great joy. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially dogs and cats. A devoted member of Gospel Kingdom Church, Ellen’s faith was an important part of her life. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Ellen will be remembered by her brother, Michael Dosch; nieces, Jennifer (Mark) Dillman, Jackie Montgomery, and Janet Cotton; special friends, Chuck (Martha) Letson; and many loved cousins.

Amos Reed, Jr., 83

Amos Reed, Jr., 83, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed February 18, 2026, at Oakview Heights and Rehabilitation.

 He was born on June 26, 1942, in Wabash County, Illinois. Amos was the son of Amos G. and Myrtle Estelle (Springtun) Reed, Sr.

 Amos worked as an Equipment Operator for Wabash County Highway Department until his retirement.

 He liked gardening, old cars and listening to Country music. Amos was a member of Lick Prairie Christian Church.

 Amos is survived by his loved ones: Cathy and (George) Luce, Lisa (Jim) Thompson, Abram Luce, Adam (Olivia) Luce, Aaron (Carter) Luce, Chris Thompson, Katie (Tommy) Gallinaro, Raymond Luce, Nolan Luce and A.J. Gallinaro.  

 He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Lucille Reed, second wife, Rose Tromley Jones, son, Ralph Reed and daughter-in-law, Kathleen Reed, sister, Helen Reed, and brother, Staff Sgt. Ralph G. Reed who died while serving his country.

Helen B. Harris, 89

Helen B. Harris, 89, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, at the Villas of Hollybrook. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on February 1, 1937, to Jasper and Gertrude (King) Dover. Helen grew up in Grand Chain, Illinois, a small southern Illinois town located approximately 3 miles north of the Ohio River. She grew up on a farm with her siblings and parents. It was a simple life full of family, church, and a close-knit community. She even had a pet lamb as a child which she loved. She fondly remembered going into town on Saturdays with her dad and they would go to the local general store and treat themselves to bologna and crackers.

Helen attended Grand Chain High School as a teenager and was a cheerleader there. It was in that tight-knit community that she met the absolute love of her life, Fred Harris. On July 9, 1952, they secretly met and ran off to Corinth, Mississippi where they were married and started their life together as a couple. They enjoyed 73 wonderful years of marriage together. Their lives were centered around God, their marriage, and family. She was a hairdresser for 20+ years and even had her own shop on Mt. Carmel’s Main Street. The name of the shop was The O’Haira House. She was a member of Parkview Christian Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois for over 50+ years and was always actively involved in helping by cooking meals for others and using her excellent seamstress skills to alter clothing for the Caring Closet children.

Helen and Fred spent many winters in Florida enjoying the warm weather and getting together with their Florida friends and faithfully attended Winter Haven Christian Church. Helen loved to play tennis and golf with her friends and her husband. She had a wonderfully competitive spirit that was a constant source of amusement to her family.

She had a great sense of humor while always being kind and generous to others. She approached life with honesty and enthusiasm.

For over 20 years, Helen stood faithfully beside her husband, Fred, as a devoted coach’s wife, in Eldorado and Mt. Carmel, offering her unwavering support and encouragement at every game they went to.

Helen is survived by her husband, Fred, her children: Rodney (Terri) Harris, Sheree McDonald, Kim (Tim) Zimmer, Ellen (Jerry) Hocking, grandchildren: Melanie (Jason) Brashears, Natalie (Nate) Stevenson, Michelle (Jeff) Seaton, Chris (Ashley) McDonald, Damien (Katelyn) McDonald, Brianne (Scott) Foster, Joey (LeaAnn) Hungerford, Jeremy (Alyssa) Hocking, Jesse (Laura) Hocking, Steven (Sarah) Zimmer, Derek (Cassie) Zimmer, Lauren (Philip) Hocking, and great-grandchildren: Christian, Chloe, Madisyn, Sophia, Drake, Aubrey, Parker, Preston, Arden, Amelia, Myles, Harvey, Marlise, Miriem, Madeline, Mabrey, Ethan, Issac, Eli, Ben, Blake, Zoey, Peyton, Thayer, Sawyer, Ryker, Roxas, Axel, and Kairi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, J.C. Dover, sisters, Hazel Helm and Georgia Badgely and sons-in-law, Terry McDonald and Dana Hungerford. Helen was also preceded in death by her great-grandchildren Elijah, Alyse and cherished Hocking grandchild who was lost before birth.

We have traveled many miles with Helen and today we have journeyed with her as far as her earthly life allows. We step back and commit her spirit to God, her Father. Our lives are richly blessed having walked beside her throughout her journey on earth. She will be missed.

Birdie Burton, 96

Birdie Burton, 96, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away on February 15, 2026, at the Villas of Hollybrook.

She was born on October 27, 1929, in Buchanan, Tennessee. She was the daughter of John and Ellen (Chandler) Groom. She married Thomas D. Burton on May 9, 1948, in Logan, Illinois.

Birdie was a people person and she loved everyone, a giver of herself. She did many years of mission work at her church, Heartland Worship, where she was a lifelong member.

She worked as a hostess at Hogg Heaven and always had a smile and a greeting for everyone entering the doors. She was a member of Wabash General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, and she always helped out at the Senior Citizens Center cooking, cleaning and whatever needed to be done. Birdie was known as the Ambassador at Hollybrook and the official greeter. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Birdie is survived by her children: Larry (Debbie) Burton of Union, Kentucky, Thomas Burton of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Steven (Leann) Burton of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, John (Jennifer) Burton of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Brenda Burton of Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Chuck (Sandy) Burton, Jenny (Ben) Horgan, Joe Burton, Josh Burton, Matthew (Anne) Burton, Melissa Burton, Alan Burton, Ashley (Jason) Calhoun and great-grandchildren: Ari Burton, Briella Burton, Rachel Horgan, Duke Burton, Sadie Burton, Van Calhoun, Vince Calhoun, and Violette Calhoun.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Thomas, three brothers: Brent Groom, Revo Groom, Clint Groom, two sisters: Lorene McDonald, Dorothy Miller; grandson, Chris Burton, and daughter-in-law Sondra Burton.

Elizabeth Priscilla Mosher, 90

Elizabeth Priscilla Mosher, 90, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana.

She was born on December 16, 1935, in New London, Connecticut. Elizabeth was the daughter of Frederick Frank and Ina Viola (Beckwith) Moshier.

Elizabeth worked as a custodian at Wabash Valley College and also worked as a volunteer with the Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies. Liz was one of the longest serving shelter volunteers for many years. She had the biggest heart for her love of animals. She enjoyed reading books and cleaning also. She loved spending time with her family so much.

Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Rita Joy Moshier of Sun City, California and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Fritz Moshier, and a special friend, Shirley Woods.

Per Elizabeth’s wishes she is being cremated and there will be no service held.

Peggy Dunkel, 96

Peggy Dunkel, 96, of Vincennes, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born on December 2, 1929, in Vincennes, Indiana, the daughter of Virgil and Louise (Gremore) Staley. Peggy married Virgil Rose August 22,1949. They lived in several states while Virgil was in Medical School, settling in Ohio to start a family. After raising her children, Peggy returned to Vincennes in 1980, missing her hometown. She married Laurence Dunkel, from Mt. Carmel, December 11, 1998, and moved to St. Francisville, Illinois, and after twenty-two years of marriage, he preceded her in death on March 26, 2021.

Peggy enjoyed a full and vibrant life centered around the things she loved most. She had a passion for golfing; proudly scoring a hole-in-one her very first year. She also found joy in dancing, listening to music, visiting the casinos, and playing bingo with her beloved Fox Ridge family. Peggy began her career as a nurse, compassionately caring for polio patients during a time when such work required extraordinary strength and dedication. Following her retirement from the Executive Inn Gift Shop, she devoted herself to caring for her mother and selflessly served as a caregiver to several local seniors. Peggy will be remembered for her quick wit, infectious sense of humor, warm and caring spirit, and a beauty that radiated from both inside and out.

Peggy will be remembered by her son, Michael Rose and wife, Angie of Wooster, Ohio; daughters, Jamie Glaefke and husband, Jon, Rebecca Rose and husband, Jim Hranko, both of Boulder, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Angela Sarno, Justin Howell, Jamon Howell, Kate Hranko, Nikki Austed, Michael Smith, and Rachel White-Ware; three great-grandchildren, Cash Wallenbrock, Scarlet Wallenbrock and Cooper Howell; brother, Jack (Rose Anna) Staley.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Laurence Dunkel; sisters, Virginia Imogene (Pete) Woodall, Wilma (Bill) Peach, and JoAnn Daugherty.

Myrna L. Schonert, 93

Myrna L. Schonert, 93, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Brookstone Estates in Olney. Myrna was born August 4, 1932, in Pinckneyville, Illinois, the daughter of Alfred and Gertrude (Heinrich) Valentine.

She graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a degree in home economics. She moved to Olney to become the Richland County Home Advisor. During this time, she met Wayne Schonert and they were married on June 12, 1955. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2009.

They lived their life together on the family farm where they raised their 5 sons. Myrna and Wayne were active members of the Ebenezer Church. They enjoyed many activities together throughout their marriage including square dancing, attending the boys' athletic games, traveling, camping, and fishing.

Myrna is survived by her children, Steve (Maridel), Bruce (Deb), Larry (Jill), Dan (Cindy), Keith (Tere); grandchildren, Jonathan (Leah) Schonert, Neil (Molly) Schonert, Matthew Schonert, Erica Schonert, Ryan (Kay) Schonert, Jared Schonert, Kallie (Chris) Allender, Kyle (Kelci) Schonert, Mitchell (Madalyn) Schonert, Connor (Brettany) Schonert, Christina (Logan) Couch, Tyler Runyon, Lauren Aumiller; great grandchildren, Corbin, Porter, Cora, Samantha, Maxton, Alydia, Luella, Knox, Vera, Myles, Miller, Luke, Jordyn, Avery.

Ruth H. Henson, 95, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away on February 10, 2026, at Oakview Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation, surrounded by her loving family.

 She was born on November 21, 1930, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She was the daughter of Virgil and Cleates A. (Dill) Adams. Ruth married John Hi Henson on June 18, 1951, in Piggott, Arkansas.

 Ruth graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1948. She worked at A. Frank Orr Elevator and Dersch Energies as a bookkeeper.

 She loved to travel with her husband, John Hi and take walks with all her grandchildren. Ruth enjoyed doing yardwork, cooking for her family, birdwatching and attending church with her family at Gospel Kingdom. She loved all her church family very much.

 Survived by her daughter, Johnnie McKinney of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, daughter-in-law, Vickie Jones of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, sister, Rose Lovellette of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, grandchildren; John Hi Henson II and his wife Melissa of Mt. Edna R. (Riggs) Leach, 85, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on October 15, 1940, to Everett and Ruth (Knoerr) Price in Wabash County, Illinois. She married Danny Leach on October 24, 1958, in Mount Carmel, Illinois and together they enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage centered on their family until his passing on December 17, 2023.

Edna was a loving mother and grandmother, whose family meant the world to her. She was a hard-working lady and had many jobs over the years. Edna was employed by Wabash General Hospital for many years in the medical records department. She was a member of the Mount Carmel Church of Christ. Edna will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Mary (Coleman) Hillyard, 82

Mary (Coleman) Hillyard, 82, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at River Oaks Health Campus with her loving family by her side. She was born on May 23, 1943, in Princeton, Indiana, the daughter of Curtis and Mary (McRoberts) Coleman. Mary was proud to be the first graduate of Wabash Valley College and continued her education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale earning her bachelor’s degree. She married Jack Hillyard on September 1, 1967, at the First Baptist Church in Mount Carmel and they spent forty-nine years centered on their family until Jack’s passing on December 25, 2016.

Mary will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a strong devotion to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She especially enjoyed worshiping through Gospel music. Family meant everything to Mary, and she treasured the time she spent with those she loved. She enjoyed traveling, and among her favorite vacations were trips to Alaska and Hawaii. When at home, she found joy in reading and watching the Game Show Network, never missing an opportunity to enjoy her favorite show, Jeopardy. Mary was a member of First General Baptist Church and will be fondly remembered for her gentle spirit and loving heart. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Mary will be remembered by her son, Gary Hillyard and wife, Barbara of Mount Carmel; daughters, Teresa Stoltz and husband, Stan of Mount Carmel, Michele Michels and husband, Jerry of Albion, and Krista Peach of Mount Carmel; three grandchildren, Dalton Michels, Hayli Michels and Camron Peach; special friend, Dorothy Hackworth.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers; and four sisters.

Lyell Harold Alka, 78

Lyell Harold Alka, 78, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away on February 6, 2026 at Oakview Heights in Mt. Carmel, IL.

He was born on July 12, 1947, in Paxton, IL. He was the son of Harold and Beatrice (Joachim) Alka. Lyell married Nancy Andrews on August 18, 1977 at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Mt. Carmel, IL, and they enjoyed 48 years together.

Lyell served his country in the United States Army for three years and then worked as a farmer. He was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Mt. Carmel, IL.

He enjoyed playing softball and loved watching his kids and grandkids play sports, and any MCHS Aces sports. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and Minnesota Vikings football fan. Lyell and Nancy loved traveling; their favorite destination was Hawaii. He enjoyed cars and going to car shows, his motorcycle rallies, and loved Daytona, FL. Lyell was a member of the Elks #715, the Eagles, and the VFW in Mt. Carmel, IL, the Moose in Grayville, IL, and he was also a Mason.

Lyell is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Richard Bates of Pinckneyville, IL, Jason Alka of Mt. Carmel, IL, and Ashley (Austin) Davis of Paducah, KY; his sister Janice Alka of Mt. Carmel, IL; his grandchildren, Ben, Kirsten, Kayden, and Easton Bates, Brooklyn and Charlie Alka, and Henry and Lyla Davis; several nieces and nephews, and a very special brother-in-law Rick Andrews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, February 10. 2026, in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home.

Gail Marie Poland, 80

Gail Marie Poland, 80, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away on February 2, 2026, peacefully at her residence.

She was born on April 15, 1945, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Robert James and Elizabeth Marie (Marcoe) Trottier.

Gail graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1963. She worked at South School as a Teacher’s Assistant for many years until retirement. She was always very active in the American Legion Auxiliary preparing dinners and staying involved helping with the Memorial Day Ceremony and laying wreaths for the Veterans. Being a lifetime member, she took on many roles. She was also a member of the Mt. Carmel Elks #715 and the Eagles. Gail was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

She is survived by her daughter Gina (Roddy) Clark of Worden, Illinois and son Greg (Heidi) Poland of Cypress, Illinois. She is also survived by her sisters; Sandra (Jack) Emmons of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Mary Simmons of Evansville, Indiana, Kerry McAlister (Don Dunkel) of Princeton, Indiana and brother Jim (Nancy) Trottier of Mt. Carmel, Illinois and grandchildren, Mason Poland and Jolinda (Lucas) Wiseman and great-grandson, Owen Wiseman and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special friend, Bob Crow.

Preceded in death by her parents, brother, Joe Trottier, sister, Debbie Duffey, infant brother, Robert James Trottier, Jr., infant sister, Elizabeth Trottier, brother-in-law’s, Hughes Simmons and Randy McAlister.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel.

Robin Lynn Doan, 63

Robin Lynn Doan, 63, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away on January 29, 2026, at Bryan Manor in Centralia, Illinois.

 Robin was born on April 9, 1962, in Wabash County, Illinois. She was the daughter of Robert C. and Delma M. (Clem) Doan. Robin graduated from Brownsville School in Brownsville, Illinois and went on to attend and work at WAVE for several years.

 Robin loved her stuffed animals, dogs and cats, and Christmas was her favorite holiday. She loved shirts with Christmas characters, dogs, and cats on them. She loved to go out to eat and then take a ride down River Road to Beall Woods State Park.

 She is survived by her brothers, Roger L. Doan of Mt. Carmel, Illinois and Bill Doan of Owensville, Indiana.

 Robin was preceded in death by her parents.

 Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home. The family has requested people wear Christmas shirts with characters, or shirts with dogs and cats on them.

Pennelope “Penny” Mae (Potts) McBride, age 77

Pennelope “Penny” Mae (Potts) McBride, age 77, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, at 4:22 pm, at Oakview Heights, leaving behind a family who will forever cherish her memory and a lifetime of laughter that will never be forgotten.

She was born July 11, 1948, in Hammond, Indiana. She was the daughter of Harry Victor “Vic” Potts and Martha Donnella (Gibson) Krup.

Penny worked as a receptionist at the Health Department and enjoyed her time there.

As the oldest sister of six siblings, Victor “Skip” (Marcia) Potts, Donald “Donnie” (Patti) Krup, Mary Jane “Janey” (Greg) Brummett, Angel (Mark) Barber, and William “Willy” (Tanja) Krup, she naturally took on the role of protector, guide, and occasional boss — a title she wore with confidence and a wink. She was a steady presence in her family, offering strength, wisdom, and unwavering love to those who looked to her for comfort and advice, whether they wanted it or not.

To know Penny was to know laughter. Her sharp wit, perfectly timed humor, and playful spirit could light up any room. Even in life’s hardest moments, she had a way of bringing smiles to others and reminding everyone not to take life too seriously. Her humor was one of her most treasured and unforgettable qualities. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Her love for her children was unconditional, constant, and fierce and being their mother was one of her greatest joys in life. She carried that same boundless love into her role as a grandmother and a great-grandmother, finding endless joy, pride and purpose as they brought light to her life and laughter to her heart. Her family, across generations, was her greatest blessing.

Penny leaves behind her loving children, James (Shelia) Obermeyer, and Gwendolyn (Larry) Luttrell. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Hannah Marcia Lee, Haley Leeper, Andrew Leeper, Savannah, Alex Obermeyer, Anthony (Obermeyer) Bowersock, Luke Obermeyer, and Levi Obermeyer and her great-grandchildren, Nikolia, Lexi, Milo, Odin VanMater and Addison Obermeyer and also her brothers, Victor “Skip” (Marcia) Potts, Donald “Donnie” (Patti) Krup, and William “Willy” (Tanja) Krup and sisters Mary Jane “Janey” (Greg) Brummett and Angel (Mark) Barber.

Preceding her in death was her beloved child, Michael Potts, and her parents, Martha (Donald F.) Krup, and Harry Victor “Vic” (Dorothy) Potts, each of them played an important role in her life, and she carried their love and guidance with her always. We find comfort knowing she is now reunited with them forever.

Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the years we shared, the memories we will treasure, and the laughter that will continue to echo whenever we think of her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.

Frances Laverne Richardson, 82

Frances Laverne Richardson, 82, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Oakview Nursing and Rehab in Mount Carmel, Illinois. She was born on September 1, 1943, in Keensburg, Illinois, the daughter of William Lewis and Doyne (Newkirk) Mcgrew. Laverne married Hollis Richardson who preceded her in death on November 20, 2003.

Laverne deeply loved her family and especially cherished the time she spent with her granddaughter. She enjoyed shopping and found happiness in having family dinners at her sister, Diana’s. Laverne also loved swimming and taking trips to the beach. Laverne worked for many years as a bartender at the local clubs, where she formed lasting friendships. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Laverne will be remembered by her son, Melvin Richardson and wife, Amanda; and granddaughter, Cloia Richardson.

Laverne was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sister, Diana Newkirk; and brother, Roger Douglas.

Debbie Sue (Trottier) Duffey, 66

Debbie Sue (Trottier) Duffey, 66, of Mt. Carmel, IL, died January 31, 2026, at Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, IN with her loving family by her side. She was born August 4, 1959 in Mt. Carmel, IL, to Robert “Bob” and Elizabeth “Betty” (Marcoe) Trottier.

She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Grade School, Mt. Carmel High School Class of 1977 and attended Wabash Valley College.

She is survived by her children Beth (Ben) Buchanan, Joe, Jake, and Jeremy Lockhart; grandsons Blake and Bradley Buchanan; sisters Sandra (Jack) Emmons, Gail Poland (Bob Crow), Mary Simmons, Kerry McAlister and husband Don Dunkel, and brother Jim (Nancy) Trottier; nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Joe, infant brother Robert, Jr., and infant sister Elizabeth; brothers-in-law Hughes Simmons and Randy McAlister.

Debbie will be cremated and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Mary Lynn Peterson, 71

Mary Lynn Peterson, 71, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Linda E. White Hospice House, with her loving family by her side. She was born on January 26, 1955, in Mount Carmel, the daughter of Charley and Patty (Ridgley) Rutter. She was married to Doug Peterson who preceded her in death.

Mary was a proud member of Job’s Daughters in her youth. She spent several years working as a bartender at both the Moose Lodge and Knights of Columbus, where she took great joy in her work and meeting new people. She was known for the care and kindness she showed to everyone she served. In later years, Mary devoted herself to caregiving, offering support to local residents who needed an extra hand. She had a genuine gift for caring for others and formed many meaningful friendships along the way. She held a special place in her heart for Belle Haggard, who was one of the last clients she cared for and they became best friends. She credited Belle with encouraging her to be re-baptized and to become a member of Heartland Worship Center. Mary found comfort and joy in listening to K-Love Radio. She cherished her time living at Mesa Lake and treasured the summers spent boating and swimming with friends. Mary loved the outdoors and tending to her flowers and garden. She had a special love for hummingbirds and kept constant watch on the feeders she had in her yard. She could make you fall in love with any season with her love to decorate and her earring collection she had for every holiday. Above all, Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She loved her family deeply, and her absence will be felt for many years to come.

Mary leaves behind her daughters, Sydney Peterson and fiancé, J.D. Redding, Lauren Berberich and husband, Daniel; son, J.P. Mendenhall and wife Alissa; grandchildren, Riley Jane Berberich, Zach and Emma Mendenhall; sisters, Carol (Jack Chandler) Perkins, Charmin Mowrer; nieces and nephews, Jennifer “Fer Fer”, Charles, Jennifer, Tosha, Dalton, Megan, Chelsea, Tyler, Craig, Andrew, and several great nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Frank Sutton; brother, Charles “Sid” Rutter; and nephew, Clint Mower.

Nanette S. Hodgson, 55

Nanette S. Hodgson, 55, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026, at her residence. She was born on June 1, 1970, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Harold Brent and Rosetta (Tyree) Hodgson.  Nanette was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School Class of 1988.  She continued her education at Wabash Valley College.

Nanette will be remembered for her loving heart and kind spirit. A dedicated and hardworking woman, she often held down two jobs at a time. She found great purpose in caring for others, spending many years as a home-health caregiver and later working at Tyler’s Place, where she truly loved and cherished her residents. Nanette also worked as a security guard at the power plant and, for nearly five years, served as a transportation specialist with Rides Mass Transit District. In her free time, Nanette enjoyed crafting and making thoughtful gifts for others. She had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved cat, Dixon. Above all else, Nanette loved her family dearly and was a devoted and wonderful aunt to her nieces and nephews. She was a proud member of the VFW.  Nanette will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Nanette will be remembered by siblings, Ed Hodgson and wife, Sheila, Frank Hodgson and wife, Vickie, Connie Wilkinson and husband, Greg, and Darlene Critchfield and husband, Bill; sister-in-law, Beverly Hodgson; many loved nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; cousins and friends.

 Nanette was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Donnie Hodgson.
