Irma Elizabeth Madden, 73

Irma Elizabeth Madden, 73, of Bellmont, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 18, 1952, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of John I. and Irma F. (Stoneberger) Stoltz. Irma married Ross Madden on June 7, 1970 and together they enjoyed fifty-five years of marriage.

Following graduation at Mount Carmel High School, Irma was a beautician and opened her own beauty shop. Irma had a deep love for people and was dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care as a home health caregiver. Irma found joy in watching mystery shows and cheering on Cubs baseball games alongside her husband. In her free time, she especially cherished shopping trips with her children. Irma was a member of the Bellmont United Methodist Church. Above all, she was most proud of her four-generation family and deeply treasured the moments when they could all be together.

Irma will be remembered by her loving husband, Ross Madden of Bellmont; son, Christopher Madden and wife, Tabby of Paris, IL; daughter, Christina Haggstrom and husband, Wade of Terre Haute, IN; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Peggy Sue Compton of Bellmont, IL; brothers-in-law, Larry Madden and Danny (Ann) Hawf; sister in law, Laveta (Bill) Casburn; many loved nieces and nephews along with special nephew, Jacob (Kandace) Compton; and many loved cousins.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Tony Compton; and sister-in-law, Jessica Madden.

Michael "Mike" Clay Donham, 66

Michael "Mike" Clay Donham, 66, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025

in Decatur, Alabama.

He was born in Mount Carmel, Illinois on September 30, 1959 to the late

Robert and Mary Evelyn Yarbrough Donham.

Mike earned his medical degree from the University of South Alabama in

Mobile, Alabama in 1993 and went on to practice medicine as a Primary Care

Physician in Decatur, Alabama for over 30 years.

Mount Carmel always held a special place in Mike's heart. He kept up with

hometown friends, news, and events, never missing a chance to follow the

Aces football and basketball teams. In recent years, he enjoyed live streaming

their games online.

Mike was an avid sports fan. He had the opportunity to travel to many MLB,

NBA, NFL, NHL, and NCAA football and basketball games. Many of which

were playoff and national championship games. His favorite teams were the

St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, Indiana Hoosiers, and The Alabama

Crimson Tide. He and his wife, Holly, traveled to games often, regularly

attending Cardinal’s spring training and Alabama football games.

Throughout his lifetime, Mike attended trapshooting events with his father and

grandfather, becoming a skilled trapshooter himself. He regularly enjoyed

attending the Grand American Trapshooting Championships in Sparta,

Illinois.

Outside of travel, hobbies, and his professional career, Mike enjoyed

spending time with family, attending his niece and nephew’s sports events

throughout the country, as well as regular family dinners to eat pizza, where

they spent many Friday nights reminiscing on friends, family, and their time

growing up in Mt Carmel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Harold Donham and Mary

Evelyn Yarbrough Donham and grandparents Robert L. Donham and Sylvia

Sexton Donham, James E. Yarbrough and Mary Kate Inman Yarbrough.

He is survived by his wife, Holly Sims Donham of Decatur, AL; son (step),

Harrison Michaels of Birmingham, AL; daughter (step), Gini Beth Michaels of

Decatur, AL; brother, Brad Donham (Valerie) of Huntsville, AL; nephew, Alan

Donham (Kerianne) of New York City, NY; and niece, Kayla Donham of

Huntsville, AL.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 1:00 PM with service

following at 2:00 PM at Decatur First United Methodist Church in Decatur, AL.

Burial service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 10:00 AM at

Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Carmel, IL.

Sandra “Sandy” Kay Windes, 75, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Wabash General Hospital. She was born on December 10, 1949, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, daughter of Robert Lewis Windes and Vernie Maxine (Garrett) Windes.

Sandy worked as a graphic artist. She was very sports-minded in her activities. She excelled at the position of catcher in the ladies’ softball league for twenty-five years. Sandy also enjoyed fishing with her brother and sister, golf, bowling, and camping. She loved being outdoors working in her yard and garden. Sandy enjoyed cooking, playing cards, and had a love for dogs. She followed St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Green Bay Packers football. Sandy loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Carmel. Above all, Sandy loved her family and friends, and treasured time spent with them. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Sandy leaves behind her sister, Janice Windes; brother, Rob Windes and wife Darla; nieces and nephews, Krystle (Brandon) Leach, Alex Windes, Tyler (Kylie) Windes, and Megahn Newlin; great nieces and nephews, Mya Leach, Malachi Leach, Addy Windes, and Isaac Windes; many loved aunts, uncles and cousins. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents.

Jeffrey L. Morgan, 73

Jeffrey L. Morgan, 73, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away on October 5, 2025, at Wabash General Hospital with family by his side.

Jeff was born Thursday, July 3, 1952, in Mt. Carmel, the third child of John A. and Hester Jane (Shepard) Morgan. He was a proud member of the Mt. Carmel High School Class of 1970. On September 1, 1972, he married the love of his life, Beverly K. Talley, at Parkview Christian Church. High school sweethearts, Jeff and Bev built a life together filled with love and family.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Jeff owned and operated M & S Oil Well Cementing with his brothers after their father’s passing. Through the many ups and downs of the oil industry, Jeff successfully ran the business, working the last 18 years alongside his son, Sean. M & S Oil Well Cementing operated for 76 years, employing countless friends and family members throughout the decades. During an oilfield downturn in 1999, Jeff and his brother John D. expanded operations to Gillette, Wyoming, where they worked in the methane industry until 2017. Jeff loved the oilfield and could recall, in detail, the wells he worked on across the tri-state area.

Outside of work, Jeff was a diehard Chicago Bears fan, an avid hunter, and a skilled trapper. His passion for deer hunting began with his father-in-law, Norm, and he proudly passed that tradition down to his sons, son-in-law and grandchildren. He especially cherished trips to Colorado in pursuit of elk, including bagging one in 1985 in Alamosa and later taking his father-in-law and sons on a memorable hunt in 2010. Each fall, hunting at Lick Prairie with family became a treasured tradition.

Jeff was also a devoted Mt. Carmel Aces fan. He rarely missed a school event-whether it was softball, volleyball, tennis, cheer, football, soccer or a school play. Above all, Jeff adored his grandchildren. Known affectionately as “Grampie” he was the one who always had a hug-or a cold Coke-waiting for them. Strong, quick-witted, loyal, and selfless, Jeff was the fixer of all things, the Go-to guy, and the rock of his family. Even after Bev’s passing, he continued to show unwavering strength for those he loved. Together, Jeff and Bev opened their home to many teenagers over the years, treating them as their own. He was the patriarch, always present, always giving, and always putting family first.

Family vacations were some of Jeff’s greatest joys. From countless Disney and beach trips to adventures throughout the western United States, he loved creating memories with those he loved most.

Jeff is survived by his children: Jenny (Eric) Meadows, Derek (Tia) Morgan, and Sean (Diana) Morgan; and his seven beloved grandchildren: Morgan, Madi, and Maddox Meadows; Clay and Kelsey Morgan; and Maverick and Eliza Morgan. He is also survived by his sister, Teri (Dale) Healy; sisters-in-law, Brenda Morgan and Gail Morgan; brother-in-law, Michael Talley; sister-in-law Deb (Steve) Winkler. Jeff’s close friends Dave & Alena Pettyjohn, Marcia Townsend, Randy Keepes, Greg Seaton, Rodney Loeffler, and Layne Long.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hester Jane Morgan; his wife, Beverly K. Morgan; mother and father-in-law, Bonnie and Norman Talley and his brothers, John D. Morgan and Patric Morgan.

Jeff’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and presence. He will be remembered as a strong man with a big heart-a devoted husband, father, Grampie, and friend-who was always there when you needed him.

Phillip “Phil” Lee Gower, 78

Phillip “Phil” Lee Gower, age 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Vincennes , Indiana  on September 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with stage 4 esophageal cancer. He was lovingly cared for by his devoted wife and daughter during his final days.

Phillip was born on September 14, 1947, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to the late Wilford D. Gower and the late Norma M. (Wilson) Berry. A proud graduate of Vincennes University and Indiana State University, he earned degrees in journalism—an early passion that guided his remarkable career.

On May 29, 1969, Phillip married the love of his life, Beth Slinkard Gower. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, family, and community.

Phillip dedicated over three decades to his work as a newspaper editor, leading the Daily Republican Register in Mount Carmel, Illinois, from May 1979 until his retirement in May 2013. His passion for the written word and dedication to journalistic integrity left an enduring mark on colleagues, readers, and the community he served.

A man of faith, Phillip was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mount Carmel, Illinois, and Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Greenwood, Indiana. He adored his wife, daughter, and granddaughter and cherished time spent with friends and family. Phillip also found joy in music—especially his lifelong love of The Beatles.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bill Gower.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Beth Slinkard Gower of Vincennes, Indiana; his daughter, Lindy Gower Meiser (Greenwood, Indiana); his granddaughter, Marabelle Meiser (Greenwood, Indiana); and his sisters: Linda Dolph (Fredericksburg, Virginia), Marianne Stratton (Sandpoint, Idaho), and Elise Bryant (Murrieta, California).

A private graveside service will be held on October 18, 2025. A celebration of Phillip’s life will be planned at a later date for all friends and family to gather in his honor.

Lola M. Bertram, 77

Lola M. Bertram, 77, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on October 1, 2025 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born on September 14, 1948 in Wabash County, Illinois, the daughter of John and Bertha (Enlow) Baxley. Lola married Richard “Dick” Bertram on July 24, 2000 and he preceded her in death on February 21, 2018.

Lola found great joy in the simple pleasures of life; whether it was getting lost in a good book, solving word search puzzles, or spending time with friends over a game of bingo. Her warmth, kindness, and love for life touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Lola will be remembered by children, Pat Isles, Andy Isles, Glenda Berberich, Cash Markle, Tim (Angie) Bertram, Kelly (Greg) Rochleau, and Debbie Bertram; many loved grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Connie Peach.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Ed Baxley; sisters, Rosalee Odom, and Ruth Baxley.

David W. Easterday, 52

David W. Easterday, 52, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025, at home. He was born on April 21,1973 in Orange County, California, the son of Thomas and Patricia (Norbert) Easterday. He married Shari Johnson thirteen years ago and she survives.

Dave worked in quality inspection at TBIN, where he worked hard and took pride in his job. He enjoyed working in his garage, welding and woodworking. He loved food, especially Shari’s cooking. Dave had many friends, and his presence will be dearly missed.

Dave leaves behind his beloved wife, Shari; sons, Brian (Amber Seaton) Covalt, Chad Covalt; daughters, Brianna (Jerod Majors) Covalt, Sierra Brown; many loved grandchildren; one sister, Laura Easterday.

Franklin “Frank” Saltsgaver, 85

Franklin “Frank” Saltsgaver, 85, of Allendale, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Linda E. White Hospice House, in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 10, 1940, in Allendale, Illinois, the son of Earl and Nedra (Osmon) Saltsgaver. He married Mary Jane (Emmons) Weiss on August 21, 1982, and they have enjoyed forty-three years of marriage centered around their family.

Frank was a member of the quail club and enjoyed coon hunting in his earlier years. He took great pride in his yard and his cars. Frank enjoyed going to flea markets to collect milk glass and he was a member of the milk glass association. He loved his family and really enjoyed time spent with his name- sake, great grandson Benjamin Franklin Hufford, who was born on Frank’s birthday.

Frank leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary Jane; children, Teresa (Kenny) Saxe, Brian (Katrina) Saltsgaver, Cindy (Jim) Thornton, Nancy Gibson, George (Kimberly) Weiss, Todd (Katerine) Weiss; grandchildren, Miranda (Tyler) Woods, Megan (Brock Ward Saltsgaver, Andrew Williams, Alix Brewer, Grant Williams, Emeily Hall, Robert (Jamie) Tomblinson, Chad (Malara) Risley, Shamber (Heath Weinberger) Weiss, Takoma Weiss, Sammy (Steven Seals) Weiss, Samantha Weiss, Nathan Weiss, Kaylee (Steven) Dohm, Chelsea (Jack) Hufford, Sean (Jade Scott) Gunzel; and twenty great grandchildren; brother, Charles (Judy) Saltsgaver; and sister, Earlene Dudley.

Robert F. Cusick, 77

Robert F. Cusick, 77, of Allendale, Illinois, saw his Savior face to face at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Linda E. White Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. He was born, the son of George Robert and Pearl Elizabeth (Winter) Cusick, on August 25, 1948, in Princeton, Indiana. On August 31, 1969, he married his high school sweetheart, Connie Maxine Ford, in the Wabash Presbyterian Church in Orio, Illinois, and she survives.

Following graduation from Allendale High School, in Allendale, Illinois, Robert graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Plant Science in 1971. After graduation, Robert accepted employment with LAMAC Engineering, he then took a position with Farm Business Farm Management then continued his career in the Engineering field with Dallas Consulting and retired from Neikirk Engineering, LLC in 2017. While Robert was widely known for his high standards and attention to detail on highway construction projects, design and surveying, his true career passion began at a tender age of 12 when he rented his first farm. Farming with his dad and grandad, he learned the value and enjoyment of working, in his words, “tilling God’s earth”; for 65 years he enjoyed season after season with his favorite being the Harvest. From large fields to his personal garden, he had many bountiful harvests. In recent years he enjoyed riding on the tractor and combine alongside his son.

Robert was a lifelong member of The First Christian Church of Allendale and poured his heart into the church body. He loved the Lord and served Him in ministry as an Elder for more than 30 years, church Treasurer, and Trustee. He taught Sunday School, enjoyed preparing for Vacation Bible School, attended Kingdom Builders monthly gatherings and was a part of the FCC annual Palm Sunday Men’s Breakfast his entire life. The annual Orio Chowder became a part of life for Robert and Connie, oftentimes they spent their anniversary prepping and stirring. Robert attended the Lost Bridge Great Banquet, Decatur, Illinois, in May of 2000; the Great Banquet provided yet another way to serve his Master. He served the Great Banquet Ministry beginning in 2008 at Hickory Grove, Lawrence Correctional Center and Robinson Correctional Center; pointing these men to Christ was a spiritual harvest.

The Book of Proverbs was Robert’s favorite book of the Bible as it is the greatest source of wisdom. He loved his family well, led well and made certain his children knew the Truth found in the Word of God.

Robert joined the Allendale Ruritan Club in 1971 and served over the years as a working member, Secretary, Vice President, and President. The Allendale Volunteer Fire Department was dear to him and his father, both volunteers. He served on the Wabash County Housing Authority Board for 23 years finding joy in knowing he was on a team that had the community in mind. Robert spent countless hours researching, logging and eventually creating a directory for the Allendale Cemetery. He staked graves in his spare time, often in the dark before or after work and took great pride in the volunteer position. Robert had a great love of sports, especially basketball; traveling to Kansas to cheer on his beloved Wabash Valley College athletes brought much joy. As a young boy, he was very active in Boy Scouts and 4-H. The love of 4-H was passed down to his children and grandchildren as he never missed an opportunity to help with projects - especially the animals.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by his children, Amy Neikirk and husband Mike, Mt. Carmel, Becky Lane and husband Andy, Allendale, Chris Cusick and his wife Kristi, Orio; seven grandchildren, Catherine Neikirk, Brock Lane and wife Kayla, Ashton Lane, Bryce Lane, Kinze Cusick, Chandler Cusick, Chloe Cusick; and great-grandson, Colter Lane. Brother John Cusick and wife Linda, Allendale, and honorary sister, Kay Ford, Mount Carmel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Alice Louise Cusick.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Wabash Presbyterian Church, 11188 North 2300 Boulevard, Allendale, Illinois. The funeral services and graveside committal service (Orio Cemetery) will be held at the same location on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 10 a.m.

Deloris McRaven, 94

Deloris McRaven, 94, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Wabash General Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 10, 1931, in Lancaster, Illinois, the daughter of Claude and Sadie (Struble) Hosmer. She married Joseph L. McRaven who preceded her in death on December 17, 1978.

Deloris was the owner and operator of The Magic Touch Beauty Salon for fifty years. She and her husband loved to travel, with one of their favorite trips being to a ranch in Colorado known as Peaceful Valley. Deloris and Joseph were active members of the Mt. Carmel Promenades, an area square dance club. Deloris had great love for her family, and she will be dearly missed by them.

Deloris leaves behind her children, Ken McRaven and wife Irene, Linda McRaven, Brenda Lindsey, Roger McRaven and wife Sherry; granddaughters, Jennifer (Dan) French, Amanda (Marcus) Fife, Heather (Brett) Miller; grandsons, Joseph McRaven, Paul and Sam Fife; great grandson, Aiden James Miller.

Jerry Tice, 75

Jerry Tice, 75, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 21, 1956 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the son of Doyle Lee and Martha (Phelps) Tice.

Jerry had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and cherished his time fishing along the Wabash River. Jerry dedicated many years of his career to Snap-on Tools and later brought his skills to Zachary, working in tool and die. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

Jerry will be remembered by his two sons, Danny (Samantha) Tice, and Chris Tice; one daughter, Elizabeth (Todd) Earnest; step son, Thomas (Alan) McWilliams; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers, Gary (Erlene) Tice, and Larry (Audrey) Tice; sister, Tammy Williams; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Harold Lee Bailey, 89

Harold Lee Bailey, 89, of Mount Carmel, passed away on September 25, 2025 at his residence surrounded by the love of his family. Harold was born on October 25, 1935 in Mount Carmel, the son of Hallam and Ethel (Biddle) Bailey. He married Phyllis (Lucas) Bailey on May 22, 1957, and together they enjoyed sixty-eight years of marriage centered around their family.

Harold will be remembered by his loving wife, Phyllis Bailey; two daughters, Terry King and Karen (Ron) Keepes; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; son, Van Bailey; and brother, Don Bailey.

Dolores Kay Couch, 84

Dolores Kay Couch, 84, of Hendersonville, TN, formerly of Mt. Carmel, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN.

She was born on April 2, 1941, in Muscatine, IA to Noel Logan Armstrong and Alma Blanche Kays Armstrong. She married Ronald Edwin Couch on November 27, 1965 at E.U.M. Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and they were blessed with 53 years together until his passing in 2019.

Kay graduated with a teaching degree from Illinois State University and taught business at Mount Carmel High School for 28 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel for over 50 years, while also attending Heart Cry Church in Arizona and Long Hollow Church in Tennessee when visiting and living with her sons. She was proud of her faith and was rebaptized at Long Hollow Church in 2024 at 83 years old to show her continued faith and to encourage others that you’re never too old to take a step of faith.

Kay loved the Chicago Cubs and loved spending as much time with her family and grandchildren as she could. She loved traveling to see her family through the years in Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, Tennessee, and Arizona. She moved to Tennessee in 2023, and enjoyed traveling between Tennessee and Arizona, staying with her sons and daughter-in-law.

Left to treasure her memory are her children, Brian (Tonya) Couch of Hendersonville, TN and Brent Couch of Gilbert, AZ; sister, Loretta (Armstrong) Martin of Muscatine, IA; three grandchildren, Maleah Couch, Joshua Couch, and Nathan (Brooklyn) Couch; two great grandchildren, Evie and Crew, and several nieces and nephews.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Richard and William Armstrong, and an infant sister Sally Jo Armstrong.

Visitation will be held September 27, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. in the chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry St. Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Burial will follow the service at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Karen Miskell, 62

Karen Miskell, 62, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on September 18, 2025 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mount Carmel, Illinois. She was born on April 7, 1963 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Jack and Opal (Deisher) Smith.

Karen was a devoted mother and grandmother who deeply cherished time spent with her family. She found joy in simple pleasures; curling up with a good book, singing karaoke, and sharing her love through cooking. Her kitchen was often filled with warmth, laughter, and the delicious meals she lovingly prepared for those around her. Karen earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and worked for Toyota Manufacturing. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Karen will be remembered by her daughter, Karrissa Miskell; grandchildren, Iris Rose, Ash Angel, Jonas John Thomas, and Marius LaRock; niece, Heather (Jason) Miskell; nephew, Joe (Andrea) Delong; great niece and nephew, Shelby and Brandon Luttrell; sister, Debbie (Joe) Delong. Karen was preceded in death by her parents.

Alisia Treece, 70

Alisia Treece, 70, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on September 9, 2025.

She was born on September 20, 1954, in Harrisburg, Illinois to Joe Oliver and Shirley (Mitchel) Oliver. She married Ronald E. Treece on July 2, 1977 at the Pentecostal church and were blessed with 48 wonderful years of marriage.

Alisia worked as a teacher’s assistant for District 348 in Mount Carmel. Her best years were spent raising her kids. She loved her family, especially her grandkids and grandpuppies. She also loved to go shopping.

Alisia is survived by her husband Ronald Treece, children; Ashley (Nic) Litherland of Mount Carmel, Jordan Treece of West Salem, grandchildren; Emersyn and Oliver, siblings; Rick (Janet) Oliver, Gary Oliver, and Christine (Terry) Young.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two uncles, and one aunt.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 12, 2025, from 10:00 am until 11:00 a.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home. Burial at Highland Memorial Cemetery will follow the service.

Mary James “Jimmie” Moade, 93

Mary James “Jimmie” Moade, 93, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025 at River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton, IN. She was born on April 22, 1932 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of James and Irene (Caldwell) Holsen.

After graduating from Mount Carmel High School in 1950, Mary Jimmie worked for Meissner Manufacturing Co. and also worked at TW George Oil Company. She than began teaching at North School in 1960, starting in fifth grade then special education; eventually teaching eighth grade science for the remainder of her teaching career when she retired in 1989.

Mary Jimmie married the love of her life, Donald Ray Moade on September 6, 1952 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Carmel and together they enjoyed fifty-one years of marriage before his passing on March 19, 2004. They were blessed to live in and raise their children, Donald Patrick and Lynn Ann in Mount Carmel. Mary Jimmie was a devoted and loving wife and mother who cherished holidays and family gatherings. Any opportunity to spend time with her loved ones was deeply important to her. She loved the outdoors and spent a great deal of time camping and boating on the Wabash River. Mary Jimmie was a strong supporter of Wabash General Hospital supplying coloring books and small toys monthly to the emergency department for treating small children coming to the ER. Also, monthly donations of cat and dog food to the Wabash County Animal Shelter was a routine item on her monthly to do list.

She kept active in her community through Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over sixty years and also Evangelical United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the hospitality committee cooking weekly for over 120 adults and children for many years. Mary Jimmie also oversaw Americanism Essay awards to local students for over twenty years given by the American Legion Auxiliary and Christmas gifts to the Veterans. Mary Jimmie also participated in Memorial Day and Veterans Day programs in the local community and was very active in the VFW Auxiliary.

Mary Jimmie will be remembered by her two children, Donald Patrick Moade and Lynn Ann McClellan and husband, David. Mary Jimmie was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 10:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Evangelical United Methodist Church.

Audra Eileen Wilkinson, 87

Audra Eileen Wilkinson, 87, of Allendale, Illinois, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 7, 1938, in Cowling, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Maudie (Simmons) Brines. She married Marshall Wilkinson on June 17, 1956, and they were blessed with sixty-nine years of marriage together.

Audra graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1956. She went to work at Meissner’s and then Champion Laboratories for twenty-three years. After retiring from factory work, she remained busy working as a cake decorator for Red and White Grocery and then IGA. Audra also made beautiful cakes for family weddings and birthdays. She loved to bake and cook for her family, always making everyone’s favorites. Hosting fish fries and trash can dinners was extra fun for her and the family. Audra enjoyed many hobbies over the years while tending to and raising horses. She loved riding horses with her daughters and husband and enjoyed camping. Audra always had a project or idea for her husband to build or remodel, and she worked side by side with him to bring her visions to life. She was an avid gardener and landscaper. She loved her flowers and plants, passing that talent on to her daughter, and to her namesake, Audra Robinson. She loved painting, sewing and all things artsy. She and her husband were very involved with the International Program at Wabash Valley College, hosting and welcoming over one hundred students into their home over the course of twenty years. Many of the students still kept in contact with them and call them mom and dad. Audra’s favorite thing in the world was spending time with her family. She adored her husband, children, grandkids and great grandkids. She would text each one every night individually to check on them until she was no longer able. Audra was dearly loved by her family and friends and her presence on this earth will be missed immensely.

Audra leaves behind her beloved husband, Marshall; children, Debbie Isaac and friend, Rob Risley, Julie Jackson and husband Joe, Sonya Schuler and husband Tim; grandchildren, Marshal (Ja Deal) Payne, Jonathan (Kristi) Isaac, Victoria Eileen Kuzmich, John Tracy (Clarissa) Kuzmich, Nathaniel Joseph Jackson, Zack Robinson, Haden Robinson, Audra Robinson; great grandchildren, Alexandria Isaac, Olivia Payne, Ryan Payne, Lucas Isaac, Geneva Smith-Kuzmich, Cecily Smith-Kuzmich, Adalyn Kuzmich, Jaxon Kuzmich; sister Shelia Knight.

Audra was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lester Brines, Charles Ray Brines; son-in-law, Joe Isaac.

The family will gather privately for a Graveside Service on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Adams Corner Cemetery.

Fred Xanders, 93

Fred Xanders, 93, of Allendale, Illinois passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on March 7, 1932, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois to Fred Xanders, Sr. and Dorothy Inez (Pearson) Xanders.

In 1950, he graduated from Mt. Carmel High School. Fred married June Couch on February 14, 1953, at Fort McClellan Army Base in Anniston, Alabama. Fred and June were blessed with 72 wonderful years of marriage together.

Corporal Fred L. Xanders proudly served his country at Fort McClellan Army Base in Anniston, Alabama and at the Army Chemical Center in Aberdeen, Maryland from 1952-1954. He also played on the Army Chemical Center Football Team in 1952.

He worked many different jobs throughout his lifetime. Fred retired from GTE telephone company as a pay station collector. He also worked for Dowell Oil Well Service and Wabash County Schools as a Janitor and Maintenance man. He was also a carpenter/woodworking man and a meat cutter as well. Fred worked as a USDA meat inspector for over 30 years, and he did custom butchering and smoked meat. Beekeeping and gardening were also his passion throughout his life.

For many years he and his wife June owned and operated concession trailers that they worked at local auctions, fairs, and M.C.H.S. football games. FAT FREDDIES (their food trailer) was loved by all! They also catered for weddings, family reunions, class reunions and birthday parties. Fred and June volunteered at the Orio Chowder fundraiser for many years as well.

Fred was always willing to give back to his community and volunteered as Little League Coach during the summer months.

One of his favorite pastimes was fishing. He made many trips to Kentucky Lake with all his buddies.

Fred is survived by his wife, June I. Xanders, children; Greg L. (Pattie) Xanders, Kevin L. Xanders, Misty K. (Paul) Kieffer, grandson, Kyle (Taylor) Kieffer

Preceding him in death were his parents; and sisters; Mary (Bill) Guinty, Joan (Bob) Mace, and Thelma (Jack) Bosaw.

Betty L. Goodman, 92

Betty L. Goodman, 92, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, at Meadow Brook Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Grayville, Illinois. She was born on February 10, 1933, in Browns, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas and Florence (Deisher) Richardson.

Betty was a hard-working lady, doing all she could to take care of her family. She worked at several grocery stores, cleaned homes and businesses, along with Shurtleff Manor Nursing Home and Snap-On Factory. She was also a fun-loving woman who enjoyed playing bingo, dancing and enjoyed country and gospel music. Betty liked watching western movies, soap operas, and wrestling on television. She enjoyed gardening, playing games and going to flea markets. Spending time with her family and cooking big meals for them was among her favorite things to do. Betty was a member of the VFW and the American Legion auxiliaries in Mount Carmel. Betty was a member of First General Baptist Church in Mount Carmel.

Betty will be remembered by her children, Don Dicus, Herbert Goodman, Jr. and wife Shirley, Danny Goodman and wife Karen, and Debbie White; grandchildren, Heather Moore, Donnie Dicus, Jennifer Massamore, Kari Coy, Melissa Goodman, Samantha Gallimore, Michael Goodman, Laura Gibbler, Amanda Greentree, Steve Goodman, Thomas Goodman, Kimberly Shrader, Stephanie Stevens; twenty-eight great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Betty is joining her family circle of those who preceded her death, her son, Randy Goodman; granddaughters, Kristi Duckett and Nicole Goodman; brothers, John Richardson, Bob Richardson, and Herman Fredrick Richardson; sister, Mary Rayborn.

Erik David Bassett, 36

Erik David Bassett, 36, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025. He was born on February 26, 1989 in Olney, Illinois, the son of David Wayne and Cheryl (Zimmerman) Bassett. Erik graduated from Mount Carmel High School with the Class of 2007. During his time there, he was a dedicated multi-sport athlete, playing football, baseball, and basketball. Known for his spirited personality, Erik was such a frequent visitor to Mr. Pat Cheeseman’s office that it became a running joke he needed his own nameplate on the door.

Erik was baptized at Parkview Christian Church on November 28, 2004, a meaningful milestone in his faith journey. Even after moving away, he continued to consider Parkview his home church. In recent years, Erik found a new church community he loved in Canal Winchester, Ohio. Throughout life’s many challenges, he never wavered in his faith; continuing to pray and trust in his risen Savior. He loved animals especially his dog, Poppy. Erik will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Erik will be remembered by his parents, David and Cheryl Bassett; grandparents, Rita Headley, Larry and Karen Zimmerman; aunts, Loretta (Robert) Conn and Terri (Bill) Smith; cousins, Amy Baumgartner, Ronda Rigg, Derek Smith and Cassie Cook.

Erik was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gary and Joanne Bassett.
