Audra Eileen Wilkinson, 87

Audra Eileen Wilkinson, 87, of Allendale, Illinois, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 7, 1938, in Cowling, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Maudie (Simmons) Brines. She married Marshall Wilkinson on June 17, 1956, and they were blessed with sixty-nine years of marriage together.

Audra graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1956. She went to work at Meissner’s and then Champion Laboratories for twenty-three years. After retiring from factory work, she remained busy working as a cake decorator for Red and White Grocery and then IGA. Audra also made beautiful cakes for family weddings and birthdays. She loved to bake and cook for her family, always making everyone’s favorites. Hosting fish fries and trash can dinners was extra fun for her and the family. Audra enjoyed many hobbies over the years while tending to and raising horses. She loved riding horses with her daughters and husband and enjoyed camping. Audra always had a project or idea for her husband to build or remodel, and she worked side by side with him to bring her visions to life. She was an avid gardener and landscaper. She loved her flowers and plants, passing that talent on to her daughter, and to her namesake, Audra Robinson. She loved painting, sewing and all things artsy. She and her husband were very involved with the International Program at Wabash Valley College, hosting and welcoming over one hundred students into their home over the course of twenty years. Many of the students still kept in contact with them and call them mom and dad. Audra’s favorite thing in the world was spending time with her family. She adored her husband, children, grandkids and great grandkids. She would text each one every night individually to check on them until she was no longer able. Audra was dearly loved by her family and friends and her presence on this earth will be missed immensely.

Audra leaves behind her beloved husband, Marshall; children, Debbie Isaac and friend, Rob Risley, Julie Jackson and husband Joe, Sonya Schuler and husband Tim; grandchildren, Marshal (Ja Deal) Payne, Jonathan (Kristi) Isaac, Victoria Eileen Kuzmich, John Tracy (Clarissa) Kuzmich, Nathaniel Joseph Jackson, Zack Robinson, Haden Robinson, Audra Robinson; great grandchildren, Alexandria Isaac, Olivia Payne, Ryan Payne, Lucas Isaac, Geneva Smith-Kuzmich, Cecily Smith-Kuzmich, Adalyn Kuzmich, Jaxon Kuzmich; sister Shelia Knight.

Audra was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lester Brines, Charles Ray Brines; son-in-law, Joe Isaac.

The family will gather privately for a Graveside Service on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Adams Corner Cemetery.

Fred Xanders, 93

Fred Xanders, 93, of Allendale, Illinois passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on March 7, 1932, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois to Fred Xanders, Sr. and Dorothy Inez (Pearson) Xanders.

In 1950, he graduated from Mt. Carmel High School. Fred married June Couch on February 14, 1953, at Fort McClellan Army Base in Anniston, Alabama. Fred and June were blessed with 72 wonderful years of marriage together.

Corporal Fred L. Xanders proudly served his country at Fort McClellan Army Base in Anniston, Alabama and at the Army Chemical Center in Aberdeen, Maryland from 1952-1954. He also played on the Army Chemical Center Football Team in 1952.

He worked many different jobs throughout his lifetime. Fred retired from GTE telephone company as a pay station collector. He also worked for Dowell Oil Well Service and Wabash County Schools as a Janitor and Maintenance man. He was also a carpenter/woodworking man and a meat cutter as well. Fred worked as a USDA meat inspector for over 30 years, and he did custom butchering and smoked meat. Beekeeping and gardening were also his passion throughout his life.

For many years he and his wife June owned and operated concession trailers that they worked at local auctions, fairs, and M.C.H.S. football games. FAT FREDDIES (their food trailer) was loved by all! They also catered for weddings, family reunions, class reunions and birthday parties. Fred and June volunteered at the Orio Chowder fundraiser for many years as well.

Fred was always willing to give back to his community and volunteered as Little League Coach during the summer months.

One of his favorite pastimes was fishing. He made many trips to Kentucky Lake with all his buddies.

Fred is survived by his wife, June I. Xanders, children; Greg L. (Pattie) Xanders, Kevin L. Xanders, Misty K. (Paul) Kieffer, grandson, Kyle (Taylor) Kieffer

Preceding him in death were his parents; and sisters; Mary (Bill) Guinty, Joan (Bob) Mace, and Thelma (Jack) Bosaw.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Adams Corner Cemetery.

Betty L. Goodman, 92

Betty L. Goodman, 92, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, at Meadow Brook Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Grayville, Illinois. She was born on February 10, 1933, in Browns, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas and Florence (Deisher) Richardson.

Betty was a hard-working lady, doing all she could to take care of her family. She worked at several grocery stores, cleaned homes and businesses, along with Shurtleff Manor Nursing Home and Snap-On Factory. She was also a fun-loving woman who enjoyed playing bingo, dancing and enjoyed country and gospel music. Betty liked watching western movies, soap operas, and wrestling on television. She enjoyed gardening, playing games and going to flea markets. Spending time with her family and cooking big meals for them was among her favorite things to do. Betty was a member of the VFW and the American Legion auxiliaries in Mount Carmel. Betty was a member of First General Baptist Church in Mount Carmel.

Betty will be remembered by her children, Don Dicus, Herbert Goodman, Jr. and wife Shirley, Danny Goodman and wife Karen, and Debbie White; grandchildren, Heather Moore, Donnie Dicus, Jennifer Massamore, Kari Coy, Melissa Goodman, Samantha Gallimore, Michael Goodman, Laura Gibbler, Amanda Greentree, Steve Goodman, Thomas Goodman, Kimberly Shrader, Stephanie Stevens; twenty-eight great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Betty is joining her family circle of those who preceded her death, her son, Randy Goodman; granddaughters, Kristi Duckett and Nicole Goodman; brothers, John Richardson, Bob Richardson, and Herman Fredrick Richardson; sister, Mary Rayborn.

Erik David Bassett, 36

Erik David Bassett, 36, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025. He was born on February 26, 1989 in Olney, Illinois, the son of David Wayne and Cheryl (Zimmerman) Bassett. Erik graduated from Mount Carmel High School with the Class of 2007. During his time there, he was a dedicated multi-sport athlete, playing football, baseball, and basketball. Known for his spirited personality, Erik was such a frequent visitor to Mr. Pat Cheeseman’s office that it became a running joke he needed his own nameplate on the door.

Erik was baptized at Parkview Christian Church on November 28, 2004, a meaningful milestone in his faith journey. Even after moving away, he continued to consider Parkview his home church. In recent years, Erik found a new church community he loved in Canal Winchester, Ohio. Throughout life’s many challenges, he never wavered in his faith; continuing to pray and trust in his risen Savior. He loved animals especially his dog, Poppy. Erik will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Erik will be remembered by his parents, David and Cheryl Bassett; grandparents, Rita Headley, Larry and Karen Zimmerman; aunts, Loretta (Robert) Conn and Terri (Bill) Smith; cousins, Amy Baumgartner, Ronda Rigg, Derek Smith and Cassie Cook.

Ezra Dorney, 85

Ezra Dorney, 85, of Keensburg, Illinois, passed away Friday, August 29, 2025, at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on November 18, 1939, in Wabash County, Illinois, the son of Jessie and Evelyn (Wilson) Dorney. He married Irene McDaniel on October 29, 1960, and together they enjoyed sixty-three years of marriage until her passing on January 17, 2024.

Ezra worked most of his life as a farmhand. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, playing bingo and watching football. Ezra was a fan of John Wayne and watched his western movies. Having cookouts with his family was special to him, and he loved his dog, Big Boy. Ezra dearly loved his family, and his grandchildren brought him great joy. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Ezra leaves behind one son, Jonathan (Nancy) Dorney; daughters, Theresa Hernandez, Kathleen Ayers; Many loved grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother, Stanley Dorney; sister, Rose Riley, several nieces and nephews.

Ezra was preceded in death by his parents; three daughters, Linda, Joann and Evelyn; several brothers and sisters.

Dora H. Mullins, 61

Dora H. Mullins, age 61, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2025, in Evansville, Indiana. She was born September 24, 1963, in Bedford, Indiana, the daughter of Bill and Rita Cobb of Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Tom Hedge.

In her earlier years, Dora dedicated herself to caring for others as a CNA at various nursing homes. Nothing in Dora’s life brought her more joy than being a Mother and a “Grammy” to her beloved grandbabies, those she cherished above all else. Hannah (her Nanners) will always treasure the fun they had watching scary movies and the special times they shared getting their nails done, creating memories filled with laughter and love. Shain (her Shaino-Macaroni-Noodle) treasured the times he spent taking her grocery shopping and playfully teasing her about being a ‘dinosaur,’ a lighthearted joke that spoke volumes about their relationship. Tasha (her Rookie) will forever hold the memory of her Mother, who was not only her Mother but also her best friend through thick and thin. She will deeply miss their daily conversations over the phone and the countless family get-togethers they had together.

Preceding Dora in death were her Father, William Cobb; Grandchild, Brian Fuller; Nephew, Little Pablo Valadez.

Survivors include: Children, Michael Edborg of Lawrenceville, Rita (Dylan)Webb of Chauncey, and Tasha (Justin) Sayge of Mt. Carmel; closest sister, Erika Valadez and many other brothers and sisters; grandbabies, Shain (Hailey), Hannah (Peter), Brooke, Brelee (Levi) and Kirsten; three great-grandchildren; and special friend, Greg Hughes.

Ida Mae Wilderman, 91

Ida Mae Wilderman, 91, of Mt Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on Thursday, August 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 19, 1933, in Wabash County, Illinois to William M. Pohl and Helen A. (Wahler) Pohl. Ida Mae married Charles E. Wilderman on September 19, 1953, at St. Mary’s Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Ida Mae was a devoted wife and mother, and wonderful grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also a great cook, known for her Fried Chicken and Mashed Potatoes and Chicken Strips.

She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Ida Mae was a bookkeeper for many years at Wilderman Bros. Appliance Store from 1975-1994.

Ida Mae is survived by her son, David (Laura) Wilderman; her daughter, Beverly Magee (Les Anderson); brother, James “Jim” Pohl (Ida’s favorite fishing buddy); grandchildren, Hannah Stunkel, Erin Wilderman, Jason (Traci) Dossett, Justin Dossett and partner, Cristina Campolieto, Kyle (Ashley) Magee, Meagen (Jeff) Coester, Lee (Chelsey Caputo) Anderson; eleven great-grandchildren and four bonus great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Charles; two brothers, William Pohl and Robert Pohl and her infant sister, Catherine Pohl.

A Celebration of Life for Ida Mae will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 125 W 5th Street, Mt. Carmel, IL 62863 at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2025. Daniel Lloyd Hunt, 80

Daniel Lloyd Hunt, 80, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 26, 1945 in Patton, Illinois, the son of Leonard Edward “Jack” and Lorilla Marie (Richardson) Hunt. He graduated from Mount Carmel High School Class of 1963. Dan married Judy Walker on November 23, 1984 and together they enjoyed thirty-five years of marriage before her passing on January 25, 2020.

Dan deeply loved his family and cherished every moment he spent with his grandchildren. He was a dedicated and hardworking man, retiring from Snap-on Tools in 1997 after a thirty-two-year career, including nineteen years as a respected supervisor, where he formed many lasting friendships. Dan also worked at CST in Mount Carmel, Vandalia and Newton. In his younger years, Dan was actively involved in the Mount Carmel Little League, serving as both director and coach. In 1978, he helped coach the team to the state finals. Dan was also a supporter of Mount Carmel High School athletics and a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved animals, especially his dog, Trixie. Dan was a member of First General Baptist Church in Mount Carmel. True to his convictions, Dan’s final request for his loved ones and friends was simple: Vote Republican. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

Mary C. Berberich, 92

Mary C. Berberich, 92, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Oakview Nursing and Rehab in Mount Carmel, Illinois. She was born on November 16, 1932 in Gibson County, Indiana, the daughter of Theodore and Theresa (Weber) Haase. Mary married Fredrick Leo “Fred” Berberich on November 27, 1951 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and together enjoyed fifty-six years of marriage centered on their family until his passing on October 1, 2008.

Mary will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures; traveling, playing cards with loved ones, gardening, and sewing. Some of her fondest memories with her grandchildren were spent fishing and baking sweet treats together. She also enjoyed bowling and built many friendships while playing in a bowling league. Mary was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and proudly belonged to the Daughters of Isabella. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Marilea Marx McConnell, 88

Marilea Marx McConnell, 88 of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away on August 7, 2025 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Marilea was born on June 9, 1937 in Wabash Co to Ralph Marx and Marjorie Fuller Marx. She graduated From Mt. Carmel High School in 1956. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marilea was the unshakeable heart of her large family, raising seven children with boundless strength warmth and wisdom. Her quiet resilience held her brood together through every storm with faith and love.

She is survived by her sister Deanna (Nick) Peters, her seven children Terri Monroe, Tom McConnell, Cindy (Robert) Lentz, Doug McConnell, Jacque (Dan) Krezowski, Tim (Kayree) McConnell, and Jill (Keith) Rabon; her eleven grandchildren, Trisha, Erica, D.J, Johnathan, Z-Max, Drake, Sierra, Kaitlin, Mikayla, Emily, and Daniel; eighteen great-grandchildren, her niece Louanne and her family, her nephew Ron (Deanna) Peters and his family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Pat Marx and Linda McWilliams, brother in-law Bob McWilliams and two great-grandchildren.

In keeping with Marilea’s wishes she was cremated. At a later date a memorial service will take place in Douglasville, GA. Rose Haven Mortuary is serving the McConnell Family.

Virginia "Ginger" Bratton, 77

Virginia "Ginger" Bratton, 77, of Mt Carmel, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday August 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving husband and family. She was born on December 11, 1947, in Indianapolis Indiana, the daughter of Robert and Dorothy Johnson.

Ginger was a devoted wife of nearly 40 years to John Lee Bratton. She was also a cherished mother, who was always there when needed to offer support, wisdom and love in abundance. Ginger was a loving grandmother and great grandmother. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and strong faith in the Lord. She was known for her many talents including crafting, baking simple treats to extravagant wedding cakes. She developed a love for music early in life. She played the autoharp and organ. Ginger had an exceptionally beautiful and heavenly voice.

Ginger was a faithful member of Heartland Worship Center for many years. Through Heartland she shared her love of giving by devoting her time to Bridges of Hope for many years.

Ginger is survived by her husband John Lee Bratton of Mt. Carmel, IL; her daughter Michelle (Terry) Holcomb of Owensville, IN, son Jimmy Mahan of Evansville IN, daughter Merideth (Rodney) Newton of Princeton IN and daughter Margie (Gary) Krug of Allendale IL; grandchildren Ryleigh (Logan Jones) Holcomb, Gary Lee (Michael) Perry, Ali (Eric) DeLong, Brittany (Logan) Keil, Taylor Newton, James Mahan, Kasey Mahan, Bethany Pack, and Nick Perry; several great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild on the way. She is also survived by honorary grandsons Gilbert Santos and Eric Emmons; an honorary son, Mike McWilliams; and Doug Sievers whom she also loved like a son.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers Carl Johnson and Paul Johnson, and grandson Lee Timberlake.

A memorial service to celebrate Ginger’s life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Heartland Worship Center. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate her beautiful life. Entombment will follow the service in Highland Memorial Garden Mausoleum.

Camela was a loving daughter, devoted mother, and faithful friend who cherished every moment with her family.

Survivors include her children, Aria Woolard and Corben Cleveland; her parents, Tammy (Greg) Choate of Princeton, IN, and Troy (Deborah) Bolton Sr. of Fort Branch, IN; maternal grandparents, Melvin Jr. and Janet DeLong; paternal grandmother, Leora Bolton; her boyfriend, Jacob Couch; and her siblings, Troy Bolton Jr., Zackary Bolton, Brady Choate, Walker (Samantha) Choate, Deborah Puritory, April Stevens, and Tara Newland.

Camela was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Bob Bolton and Jimmy Choate.

A gathering celebrating Camela's life will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Prince Masonic Lodge, 220 East Water Street, Princeton, Indiana. The gathering will begin with a service honoring Camela and end with a meal and time of fellowship.

Marvin Eugene Bailey III, 42

Marvin Eugene Bailey III, 42, of Poseyville, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025. He was born on November 2, 1982, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the son of Marvin E. Bailey Jr. and Rhonda (Groff) Grinols. Marvin graduated from Mount Carmel High School Class of 2001.

Marvin faithfully served his Country in the United States Army where he served during Operation Enduring Freedom. Marvin was truly one of a kind, full of life, and someone who never met a stranger. His infectious smile, constant laughter, and quick wit made him a joy to be around. He had a natural gift for connecting with people and never passed up the chance to share a good joke. Family meant everything to Marvin, and his daughter, Aviana, was the light of his life. He was her biggest supporter, always cheering her on in everything she did. Marvin was the best “gymnastic dad” and loved watching her compete.

Marvin cherished the bond he shared with his lifelong friends, especially during their annual fantasy football league, a tradition that brought him so much joy. A loyal Titans fan, Marvin was a proud season ticket holder who never missed an opportunity to cheer on his team. An avid outdoorsman, Marvin found peace in nature. Whether he was hunting, fishing, boating, or hitting the golf course with friends, he embraced every adventure with excitement. Marvin also enjoyed bowling and poker nights with his friends.

One of Marvin’s longest-standing traditions was attending the Palestine Rodeo; a cherished family event he had been a part of since birth. It was more than just a rodeo; it was a symbol of togetherness and memories shared over generations. Marvin lived life to the fullest and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be remembered not only for his laughter and warmth, but for the deep love he had for his family and friends.

Marvin will be remembered by his mother, Rhonda Grinols and husband, Dave; his daughter, Aviana Bailey; sister, Robin Sluder; fiancé, Tiffany Crook; aunts and uncles, Monty (Doris) Groff, Roger Groff, Nancy (Larry) Olsthoorn, Joedy Groff, Darla Flannery, Billy (Tammy) Rhodes, Tim Bailey, Russell (Lisa) Wilson, and Patricia Bailey; nieces and nephew, Allison, Alexia, and Aiden Collins, Bailey Smith; many loved cousins.

Jim Lee Murphy, 91

Jim Lee Murphy, 91, of Mt. Carmel passed away Monday, August 4, 2025, at Oakview Heights Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born August 29, 1933, the son of Eugene “Pat” and Edna (Goodwin) Murphy in Robinson, Illinois.

Jim married Janet Bradberry and they enjoyed forty-eight years together until her passing in 2022. He worked for forty-five years as a press operator at Pacific Press and part time at the Wabash County Sheriff’s Department for twenty years…for nine different sheriffs.

Among firsts in his life, he was Mt. Carmel’s first motorcycle police officer, a founding member of the Honda Gold Wing Touring Association, and raced at the first ever Daytona AMA Pro Flat Track Race.

Jim’s greatest loves were his wife, family, motorcycles and his cats. He always had a smile and a story ready to share with others.

Those left to cherish Jim’s memory include his children, Tamera (William) Watson, Pam (Randy) Fischer of Mt. Carmel; grandchildren, Jeff (Heather) Berberich, Laura (Dave) Barnett., Mark (Jena) Berberich, Jordan (Heather) Fischer, Christopher (Marla) Rafferty and Ross (Mallory) Rafferty; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.   and

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister Jean (Huston) Bever.

A Graveside Memorial Service for Jim will take place Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Raymond Peters, 78

Raymond Peters, 78, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, at Deaconess Gateway in Newburgh, Indiana with his loving family by his side.

He was born on February 25, 1947, in Princeton, Indiana to Bernard H. Peters and Eleanor M. (Dunkel) Peters. He married Debra Riggs on November 23, 1985, at Wabash Presbyterian Church in Orio, Illinois.

Raymond graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1965. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri. He served his country in the United States Army and received a Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and also a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Colombus.

Raymond was a 5th generation farmer in the Peters family. He and his son, Jonathan, also worked the land for many years together.

He loved FORD trucks, and antique tractors with Minneapolis Moline being Raymond’s favorite.

Surviving are his wife, Debra Peters; son, Jonathan Peters of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; daughter, Emily (Daniel) Davis of Washington, Indiana; and step-daughter Amna (Mark) Majors of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; grandchildren, Hadley & Bennett Davis and step-granddaughter, Ashley Majors.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 10-12:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon at St. Mary’s Church, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Burial location will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Jacob Adam Birkla, 29

On August 4th, 2025, Jacob Adam Birkla went to be with the Lord. He was born on January 2nd, 1996, the son of Ashley (Cory) Gray and William (Michelle) Birkla. He was a 2014 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School. After graduation, Jacob pursued a bachelor’s degree in TV & Video Production at Eastern Illinois University, graduating in May 2019 in Charleston, Illinois.

To know Jacob was to love Jacob. He always had a magnetic smile on his face. He enjoyed making others feel good about themselves by getting them to laugh at his goofiness. Jacob always made sure you knew you were loved by him. He enjoyed many hobbies including gaming with his family and friends, playing Mario Kart and Zelda, building Legos, and hanging out with friends. His favorite times were spending time with his love, Amaya Willis, and his cat children. Jacob was a hardworking man in whatever he was doing. It was common for him to have more than one job at the same time. Jacob will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Alva Earl Sherman, 92

Alva Earl Sherman, 92, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation. He was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1932 in Wabash County, Illinois, the son of Roy W. and Bertha (Carroll) Sherman. Earl was a Mount Carmel High School graduate of the Class of 1951. Following high school, he faithfully served his Country in the United States Army.

Earl dedicated thirty-two years of his life as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, serving his community with commitment and care. Known for his kind heart and generous spirit, Earl was always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors, especially with yard work or outdoor projects. He took pride in tending his garden each year, and he generously shared the fruits of his harvest with friends and neighbors. Earl was also skilled with his hands and contributed to building homes, always willing to help where he was needed. Earl was a devoted member of Friendship Christian Church, and throughout his life, he found great joy and comfort in listening to gospel music. Earl will be missed by all those who knew him.

Earl will be remembered by his sister, Maxine Lasley of Florida; four nephews; close friends, Gene Siverly and his wife, Alice. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Sherman, and Ed Sherman; sister, Louise Sherman.

Chester R. Gray, 90

Chester R. Gray, 90, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025 at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on May 28, 1935 in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the son of Harley “Dale” and Bernadine (Downen) Gray. He married Marilyn Sue Mabry on October 23, 1955 and together they enjoyed thirty-five years of marriage until her passing on March 20, 1991.

Chester faithfully served his Country in the United States Army. He was proud of his family, whom he loved dearly. Chester’s true passion in life was cars, he especially enjoyed building hot rods and street rods. His love for craftsmanship and creativity was evident in every vehicle he brought to life. Chester was a dedicated and hard worker where he spent forty years as a machinist at Pacific Press & Shear. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.

Chester will be remembered by his two sons, Jeff Gray of Ft. Branch, IN and John Gray and wife, Jeni of Princeton, IN; one daughter, Karen Gray of Evansville, IN; four grandchildren, Brittany (Travis) Martin, Chris (Katie) Gray, Courtney (Kyle) Kerstiens, and Jordan (Christian) Davis; eight great grandchildren; sister, Martha O’Dell of Florida.

Chester was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn; infant son, Gary Allen Gray; daughter in law, Cindy Gray.

James Carl “Jimbo” Stansfield, 63

James Carl “Jimbo” Stansfield, 63, of Princeton, Indiana, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, surrounded by his loving family.

Jimbo was born on March 13, 1962, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, to Charles R. and Margaret A. (Hosbach) Stansfield. After losing his mother during his final year of high school — a loss that deeply impacted him — he later found stability and love through his foster family, Bill and Gloria Weir, and their sons, who became brothers to him.

Jimbo worked for many years as a factory worker and forklift driver. He was known for his strong work ethic and his big heart. He was always quick to help someone in need — whether it was fixing a flat tire, helping with a yard, working on a car, or stepping in however he could. His wife, Patricia, often called him her Superman, and that became a lasting theme throughout his life — even up to his final day. To her, and to many others, Jimbo was truly a super guy. He and Patricia shared 37 years of love, partnership, and unwavering devotion.

Jimbo loved simple joys — playing pool, telling a good joke, and relaxing at the river camp with friends and family. He was a fan of classic rock music, NASCAR Sundays with his wife, and keeping his yard looking sharp. He also had a soft spot for turtles, a collection that started with his late mother and became a sentimental tribute to her. Jimbo was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs, and the Golden State Warriors — win or lose, he stuck by his teams.

More than anything, Jimbo cherished his family. He was always there when needed — a steady, caring presence to his stepchildren and grandchildren, never hesitating to lend a hand or offer support. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Patricia (Palmer) Stansfield; stepchildren Patricia, Melody, Charlene, Jimmy, and Danny; and 13 grandchildren, including Alyssa (Palmer) Perry, with whom Jimbo shared a special bond during her early years. He loved each of his grandchildren deeply — celebrating their milestones, spending quality time with them, and always showing up with open arms and a big heart. His legacy lives on through each of them — in their memories, their stories, and their hearts.

He is also survived by his siblings Pete Stansfield, Jack Stansfield, and Penny Wilson, as well as many nieces and nephews, including Shawn and Whitney. He was preceded in death by his brother Bill Stansfield and two of his foster brothers.

Tina Marie Belt, 62

Tina Marie Belt, 62, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025 at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born on July 12, 1963 in Mount Carmel,Illinois, the daughter of Jon and Shirley (Mason) Chapman. She married Byron Belt on August 14, 1982and together they enjoyed forty-two years of marriage centered on their family.

Tina was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she found great joy in creating meaningful memories with them. Tina was happiest when surrounded by her family, especially during camping trips that brought everyone together.  In her free time, Tina loved spending time in the kitchen, where she found joy in canning and cooking homemade meals. She shared a special bond with her mother, and together they looked forward to attending craft shows each year.

Tina dedicated her career to helping others, serving as the Executive Director of the Housing Authority. She especially loved working with all the residents, always offering a compassionate ear and a helping hand.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Her warmth and spirit touched many lives, and her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her most.

Tina will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Byron Belt; her two children, Whitney Belt and wife, Kim, and Britney Wagner and husband, Nathaniel; four grandchildren, Macie, Theo, Cade, and Kyson; parents, Jon and Shirley (Mason) Chapman; sister, Robin Chapman; niece and nephew, Samantha and John.
