Raymond Peters, 78, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, at Deaconess Gateway in Newburgh, Indiana with his loving family by his side.
He was born on February 25, 1947, in Princeton, Indiana to Bernard H. Peters and Eleanor M. (Dunkel) Peters. He married Debra Riggs on November 23, 1985, at Wabash Presbyterian Church in Orio, Illinois.
Raymond graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1965. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri. He served his country in the United States Army and received a Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and also a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Colombus.
Raymond was a 5th generation farmer in the Peters family. He and his son, Jonathan, also worked the land for many years together.
He loved FORD trucks, and antique tractors with Minneapolis Moline being Raymond’s favorite.
Surviving are his wife, Debra Peters; son, Jonathan Peters of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; daughter, Emily (Daniel) Davis of Washington, Indiana; and step-daughter Amna (Mark) Majors of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; grandchildren, Hadley & Bennett Davis and step-granddaughter, Ashley Majors.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 10-12:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon at St. Mary’s Church, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.
Burial location will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
