Alva Earl Sherman, 92, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation. He was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1932 in Wabash County, Illinois, the son of Roy W. and Bertha (Carroll) Sherman. Earl was a Mount Carmel High School graduate of the Class of 1951. Following high school, he faithfully served his Country in the United States Army.
Earl dedicated thirty-two years of his life as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, serving his community with commitment and care. Known for his kind heart and generous spirit, Earl was always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors, especially with yard work or outdoor projects. He took pride in tending his garden each year, and he generously shared the fruits of his harvest with friends and neighbors. Earl was also skilled with his hands and contributed to building homes, always willing to help where he was needed. Earl was a devoted member of Friendship Christian Church, and throughout his life, he found great joy and comfort in listening to gospel music. Earl will be missed by all those who knew him.
Earl will be remembered by his sister, Maxine Lasley of Florida; four nephews; close friends, Gene Siverly and his wife, Alice. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Sherman, and Ed Sherman; sister, Louise Sherman.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Siverly officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
