Peggy Ann Wright, 72

Peggy Ann Wright, 72, of Mt. Carmel, IL passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2024 in the Chapel of Short- Cunningham Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from Noon until 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Short- Cunningham Funeral Home.

Peggy was born to George & Juanita (Summers) Hall, on April 9, 1951. She married the love of her life, Jerry Lee Wright on June 9,1970. Together sharing 25 years, until his passing in June 1995.

From their Holy Union of Matrimony were born six children: Jerry (Angela) Wright, Leann (Brandon) Davenport, John (Tamara) Wright, Jennifer (Michael) Hadley, Autumn (Josh) Harms, Brian Wright; fourteen grandchildren, Tyler (Lexi) Wright, Rachel (Hunter) Morehead, Aleczander Wright, Leslie (Logan) Lashbrook, Rebecca Yarbor, Taylor Davenport, Brendan, Breanna, & Taigen Wright, Austin Knust, Emily Dill, Aleah Hadley, Michael & Elizabeth Harms; two great-grandchildren, Benton & Everly Lashbrook.

Preceding her in death besides her parents & husband were her brother, John Hall, and sister, Dorothy Goodman.

She fought a very long and difficult battle continuously the last year of her life, but was truly inspirational, as she leaned into Jesus, trusting, and surrendering to Him. Throughout it all she wanted her children to know just how much she loved them, and that she was “okay”.

Peggy dedicated her life as a homemaker. She was a talented cook hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners every year. Besides working in her yard with flowers and ornaments, she loved to put together flower arrangements, sit on her front porch, or cuddle up on her sofa to the Hallmark Channel or with a Western along with Faye, her little dog that she loved dearly. Peggy was also a long-time member of The VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Her absence from the family will be greatly felt and greatly missed.

Eldon Leroy Nanney, 79,

Eldon Leroy Nanney, 79, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Heart-to-Heart Hospice in Evansville, Indiana surrounded by his family.  He was born on April 30, 1944 in Wabash County, Illinois, the son of Elva and Wyaneda (Wilson) Nanney.   Eldon graduated from Mount Carmel High School Class of 1963.  He married Debra Berberich on October 23, 1971 and together they enjoyed fifty-two years of marriage.

 Eldon was a dedicated employee at Snap on Tools for thirty-two years where he made many friendships.  Eldon and Debbie enjoyed camping and loved spending the winter months in Florida.  In his free time, Eldon also enjoyed riding motorcycles.   He was a life member of the Gold Wing Road Riders.  He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

 Eldon will be remembered by his loving wife, Debbie Nanney; son, Tony Nanney; two half-sisters, Donna Orr and Pam Edwards; many loved nieces and nephews.

 Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Evalyn Allen and Norma Jean McCrary; niece, Cindy Gray.

Darrell Wayne Ensminger, 80

Darrell Wayne Ensminger, 80, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed from this life Monday, February 12, 2024. He was the son of Wayne Elmer and Meredith Lucille (Ridgway) Ensminger.

Darrell was an active member of Lick Prairie Christian Church. He attended and graduated from Shawneetown Illinois High School. Darrell worked at Chicago Lock. After moving to Mt. Carmel, Illinois, he worked as a farmer and sold feed for Morman Feed.

He loved river fishing. Darrell always caught and fried fish for his church’s annual Fish Fry. His greatest love was spending time with his family and friends.

Those left to remember Darrell are two brothers, Donald (Laurie) Ensminger, Charles (Karen) Ensminger and sister, Meredith Hale; nephews, Troy, Sheltin and Kaidin Ensminger and Greg (Robin) Hale; nieces, Alice Broster (fiancé, Jeff Wilkison), Emily (David) Wright, Miranda Broster, Dorey Stone, Marissa (David) Higgerson and son; and special friend, Patricia Williams.

Preceding Darrell in death were his parents; a son, Michael Wayne Ensminger; and brother, Russell Ensminger.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short-Cunnigham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date in Lick Prairie Cemetery.

Joan Evans Bowen, 102, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away February 7, 2024, in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 703 N. Market Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. A burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mount Carmel, Illinois.

Visitation will be Friday, February 16, 2024, in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Joan Evans Bowen lived a rich and fulfilling life dedicated to education, family, faith, and exploration. Born in Manchester, Iowa, in 1922, she pursued her passion for teaching, earning both a B.A. in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Northern Colorado, respectively.

She was married to Dr. Robert W. Bowen, Joan raised two children, Dr. Robert and Dr. William, and found joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her career spanned 32 years in education, where she served as an elementary school teacher, Title 1 reading teacher, and principal, embodying her commitment to learning and nurturing young minds.

Joan’s devotion extended beyond the classroom; she was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she contributed her time to various church activities and served on the church council. Her love for travel allowed her to connect with people worldwide, while her appreciation for nature kept her grounded, spending cherished moments outdoors, particularly at Beall Woods.

Even in her later years, Joan remained an inspiration to her family and community, admired for her humor, wisdom, and unwavering determination. Though she is preceded in death by her parents and husband, her legacy of passion, service, and love lives on in the hearts of those she touched.

Glen Leslie Clodfelter, 86

Glen Leslie Clodfelter of West Salem passed away on February 9, 2024, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana with his family by his side.

He was born on June 14, 1937, the son of Raymond & Edna (Voigt) Clodfelter. Glen graduated from Albion High School in 1955. He owned and operated a grain and livestock farm in rural West Salem and loved to farm and plow the soil. Land improvement was a high priority on his farm, and he always wanted to leave it better than before. Glen had a passion and love of farming and red equipment like no other. He was a lifelong member of the Moravian Church and he served many years as a Trustee and enjoyed working at the church and cemetery on work days. When he wasn’t farming, he enjoyed deer hunting and fishing with a cane pole with family and friends. Glen never met a stranger and would share his love of farming with all that would listen. He loved watching his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids at their sporting events and showing their animals at the county fairs. In his earlier days during the summer, you could catch him pulling his 806 in the tractor pulls. He loved working in his garden, where he tended his beloved butter beans and peanuts. In his retirement, he restored antique IH tractors to leave to family for future generations. He volunteered his carpentry skills to those that needed help. He was a perfectionist in all that he did.

Glen was the beloved husband of Marilyn (Thomann) Clodfelter of 65 years. She survives. They had five children: son, Wesley (Cheryl) Clodfelter of West Salem, daughters, Glenna (David) Summers of Bone Gap, Connie (Scott) McDowell of Olney, Rita (Roger) James of Albion, and son, Kenny (Terri) Clodfelter of West Salem. His loving family also includes 9 grandchildren: Heather (Andrew) Spray, Kyle (Jessica) Clodfelter, Jamie (Chad) Heindselman, Kaeli (Chandler) Moore, Kinzi James, Tyger & Darcy Clodfelter, and Coen & Cade McDowell, and great-grandchildren J.J. & Emmitt Spray, Emma, Lydia, & Isaac Clodfelter, Gavin & Aiden Heindselman, and Collins Moore, as well as many nieces and nephews. Glen was proceeded in death by his parents, his siblings Robert, Sidney, Charles, Lyle, & Eldon Clodfelter, Janet Yonaka, and 3 infant siblings.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the name of Glen L. Clodfelter to the Shriners Hospital for Children or the Edwards County FFA Alumni.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the West Salem Moravian Church - West Salem, Illinois

Keith Allen Hocking, 76

Keith Allen Hocking, 76, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away February 7, 2024, at Linda White Hospice Facility surrounded by his family.

Services will be held Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the Keensburg Christian Church at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Allan Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Keensburg Christian Church on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Keith was born to the late Robert C. and Myrtle (Bosecker) Hocking on June 12, 1947, in Princeton, Indiana. He graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1965 and then attended SIU where he received his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education. He was married on July 26, 1969, to Vicki Peach at the Keensburg Christian Church and enjoyed 54 years of marriage. To this union two children were born: Kristi M. (Mark) Wright of Mount Carmel, Illinois, and Bradley Keith (Marla) Hocking of Mount Carmel, Illinois. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Deric (Regan) Wright, Lauryn Wright (Fiancé Luke Gould), Jacob (Tessa) Hocking, and Paige Hocking, brother Melvin (Marilyn) Hocking and sister Irma Hocking. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Keith’s passion was being a farmer. He served on several Illinois and Wabash County Farm Bureau Committees, which included being President of the board in 2006 and 2007, and he was recently Wabash County Activator Trustee for the Illinois Ag Association. In high school he was highly active in FFA and was a Sentinel and President. Keith also spent many years as a 4H member. He adored attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Keith loved to travel, whether it was taking bus tours or going on cruises. His favorites were Alaska, Hawaii, and the Panama Canal. Keith was an active member of Keensburg Christian Church which he served as an Elder and board member. He was also a Charter Member of the Keensburg Fire Department and the Greater Wabash County Rural Fire Protection District Trustee for 27 years.

Edward R. Schmitt, 88

Edward R. Schmitt, 88, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 25, 1935 in Poseyville, Indiana, the son of Joseph and Geneva (Ziliak) Schmitt.

Ed will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and friend to many. Ed owned and operated Edward R. Schmitt Accounting where he worked for sixty years. He was a proud lifetime member of our Mt. Carmel Eagles 3066; serving as secretary for twenty-eight years and became a Golden Eagle at the age of eighty-six. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

Ed will be remembered by his son, Jeff Schmitt and wife, Vickie; daughter, Pamela Jerrell and husband, Clark; two step sons, Billy and Mike Peach; step daughter, Renee Pearson; four grandchildren, Christy (Jason) Satava, Michael (LeAnne Burns) Schmitt, Clark (Amanda) Jerrell III, and Shaun (Crystal) Jerrell; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters, Rose (Dave) Vincent and Mary Winiger.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; children, Larry Gene Schmitt, and Michael R. Schmitt; brothers, Thomas, Fred, Kenny, Paul and Marvin Schmitt.

Sandra “Sandy” Rae Courter, 72

Sandra “Sandy” Rae Courter, 72, of Allendale, Illinois, peacefully passed away Monday, January 29, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family.

Sandy was born to the late Raymond and Norma (Driggs) Gillihan on May 19, 1951, in Princeton, Indiana. She was a graduate of Allendale High School and received an associate degree from Wabash Valley College. Sandy married Vaughn H. Courter on September 24, 1972, in Allendale, Illinois. To this union three sons were born: Matthew Courter of Olney, Illinois, Andrew (Sarah) Courter of Allendale, Illinois, and Adam (Monica) Courter of Vincennes, Indiana. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Hallie, Isaiah and Avalene Courter; one sister, Susan (Darrell) Campbell of Robards, Kentucky; and a half-brother and half-sister, Jason Gillihan and Mandy (Gillihan) Stoltz.

In her earlier years, she was a claims typist at Golden Rule Insurance in Lawrenceville, Illinois. After the birth of her first son, Sandy became a full-time homemaker. She played the piano for church services since age 13. She loved to crochet, making numerous afghans, house slippers, sock hats, capes, and doilies. She loved reading and had many books waiting to be read.

After her children were grown, Sandy worked briefly at Daylight Plastics in Bridgeport, Illinois. She worked at CST/Motorad in Mt. Carmel, Illinois for 17 years, from which she retired. After Vaughn entered the ministry in 2007, she served alongside him, enriching the spiritual lives of those in the church, while also serving as a pianist at Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church and Bellmont United Methodist Church. She was a member of Allendale United Methodist Church. Her faith and her relationship with God was strong. She believed in prayer and was known as a prayer warrior in the churches she served and attended. She loved her kids and grandkids. They were always in her prayers. She made them laugh with her humorous singing, which included a unique and hilarious rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Norma Gillihan, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Zane and Nancy Courter

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 2, 2024, at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, with burial following at Allendale Cemetery.

A visitation will be held before the funeral service from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, 12:00 noon.

Albert E. Moore, 71

Albert E. Moore, 71, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family.   He was born on October 10, 1952, in Henderson, Kentucky, the son of James M. and Minnie Mae (Ligon) Moore.  He married Melissa Crawley on July 21, 1985, and they have enjoyed thirty-eight years of marriage.

Albert faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He worked many years as an oilfield hand.  In his spare time, Albert enjoyed working on small engines and fishing.  He loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren brought him great joy.  He attended Heartland Worship Center with his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Albert leaves behind his beloved wife Melissa; three sons, Austin (Kelsea) Moore, Albert “Bub” Moore, Jeramy Moore; three daughters, Michelle (Travis) Eads, Melanie (Jeremy) Crane, Heather (James) Sherman; twenty-five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathy (Ron) Pulliam, and Betty Jackson; several loved nieces and nephews.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Moore; sister, Diane Cox; brothers, Billy Ray Moore, Roy Moore; and brother-in-law, Don Jackson.

Angie D. Porter, 59

Angie D. Porter, 59, of Boonville, IN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at her residence surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born on February 17, 1964 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Norman and Melinda (Storm) Brunson.  Angie married Kevin Porter on April 2, 1981 in Mount Carmel and together they enjoyed forty-two years of marriage centered around their family.

 Angie will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend to many.  She was a very talented author and wrote books centered on Christian novels.   In her free time, Angie enjoyed being outdoors and going on long hikes while appreciating nature.  She was very fond of animals especially her dogs.  Angie loved making and wearing tie-dyed shirts.  She was also very tech savvy, and wrote security programs for different companies.  Angie will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

 Angie will be remembered by her husband, Kevin Porter; son, Levi Porter; daughter, Keyla Porter; mother, Melinda Brunson; sister, Holly French; nieces and nephews, Chloe, Evie and Wyatt French, Dylan Porter, Dominique and Lexie Spruell.

 Angie was preceded in death by her father, Norm Brunson; paternal grandmother, Sylvia Brunson Childers; and nephew, Drew Porter.

Marilyn D. Bosecker, 90

Marilyn D. Bosecker, 90, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, peacefully passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Marilyn was born October 12, 1933, in Keensburg, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Marie (Walker) Coe. She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School. On September 5, 1953, Marilyn married Kenneth Bosecker at the Keensburg Methodist Church. To this union two children were born: Denise (Steven) Davis of Owensville, Indiana, and Janis (Tony) Vickers of Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Along with her daughters and their spouses, four grandchildren survive: Ryan (Jennifer) Davis, Erik (Abigail) Davis, Lauren and Brayden Vickers; and three great grandchildren: Ayden, Emma and Noah Davis.

Preceding Marilyn in death were her parents, husband, and great grandson, Nathan Davis.

Marilyn was a member of the Keensburg Christian Church. She enjoyed serving the Lord and reading the Bible. Marilyn worked for American Savings and Loan as a teller for many years. She loved to cook, read and spend time with her family.

Dixie L. (Kirkman) West Mullins, 82

Dixie L. (Kirkman) West Mullins, 82, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 15, 1941, in Gibson County, Indiana, the daughter of Ivan C. and Teresa M. (Petry) Kirkman.

Dixie had a career in the nursing profession, working as an RN for many years. In her spare time, she loved to sew and would often make matching outfits for the kids during the holidays. Dixie would crochet snuggly blankets for everyone in the family and loved to crochet angels and snowflakes. She treasured spending time with her family. Dixie will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Dixie leaves behind her children, Terry (Mike) Blair, Laura (Larry) Pride, Jeff (Linda) West, Christina (Bradley) Walworth; grandchildren, Eric (Ambre) Norrick, Amanda (James) Ewald, Keith Armstrong Jr., Jeff (Kendra) Blair, Jason Blair, Jamie (Justin ) Cahill, Sarah Hood, Andrew (Susanna) Hood, Trevor (Caitlin) Hood, Stacey Hood, Matthew (Payton) West, Rachel (Lee) Russell, Christopher Vaughn; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild who is due to arrive on Dixie’s birthday; and one brother, Pat Kirkman.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Kimberly Vaughn, great-granddaughter, D’nelle Blair; one brother, David Kirkman.

Graveside Services will be at 12:00 p.m., Monday, January 29, 2024, at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Minister Bradley Walworth officiating.

William Keith Russell, 68

William Keith Russell, 68, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Wabash General Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.  He was born on September 18, 1955, in Fairfield, Illinois, the son of William J. and Clara (Kimbrel) Russell.

Keith proudly served his country in the United States Army.  He worked in the oil fields for Andy Hocking, and also for F. L. Beard Oil Company before moving to New York for a while.  In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and going mushroom hunting.  He enjoyed going out to eat but also enjoyed cooking at home.  Keith loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Keith leaves behind two daughters, Amanda Wright, Amber (Ben) Dossett; grandchildren, Brendan Wright, Breanna Wright, Brayden Barber, Bryhley Barber, Beyonca Wright, Addison Dossett and Macey Dossett; one great grandchild; brothers, Mike Russell, Jim Russell; special friend, Lois Frayser; several loved nieces and nephews.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Kathy Stoops.

Family and friends may gather for a Memorial Visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2024, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.

Marilyn A. Ankenbrand, 84

Marilyn A. Ankenbrand, 84, of Browns, Illinois, passed away January 17, 2024, at Wabash General Hospital.

Marilyn was born to the late Victor and Catherine (Waterman) Pohl on November 1, 1939, in Haubstadt, Indiana. She married Michael A. Ankenbrand on January 19, 1963, in Haubstadt, Indiana and together they enjoyed 60 years of marriage. To this union four children were born: Kevin (Heidi Wagner) Ankenbrand of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Kim (Kevin) Smith of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Kristi (Darian) Smock of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and Kelly Ankenbrand of Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Also surviving are her five grandchildren Shea (Kali) Smith, Chloe (Dillon) Farmer, Pete (Shelby Terrell) Smith, Max Smock, and Haden (Savannah) Smock, five great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Camille, Safiya, Harmony and Izzy; two brothers: Don (Sharon) Pohl and Fred (Melba) Pohl of Fort Branch, Indiana, two sister-in-laws: Bernadette Pohl of Fort Branch, Indiana and Janice Pohl of Evansville, Indiana.

She is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Jennifer Ankenbrand, sister Sr. Victoria Pohl, five brothers: Victor Jr., Robert, Harold, Kenneth, and Eugene Pohl.

Marilyn attended AIC in Ferdinand and taught fourth grade at St. Joe in Evansville, Indiana for a year when she was seventeen. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Marilyn genuinely enjoyed her family and spending time with them at the Holidays and special meals. She owned an in-home daycare. Marilyn and Mike raised multiple foster kids over the years. She was a 4H leader for 11 years and Home Extension member for 42 years. Marilyn taught Sunday School classes for 16 years and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella for over 40 years. She loved playing bingo and clabber. Marilyn enjoyed feeding the birds, canning/freezing produce from their garden, and planting flowers.

Services will be held Monday, January 22, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Sebastian Church. A burial will follow at St. Sebastian.

Visitation will be held in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Sunday, January 21, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. A Rosary to follow visitation at 4:00 p.m.

Irene Dorney, 81

Irene Dorney, 81, of Keensburg, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Wabash General Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on March 28, 1942, in Carter, Wisconsin, the daughter of Vincent and Elizabeth (Bennett) McDaniel. She married Ezra Dorney on October 29, 1960, and together, they enjoyed sixty-three years of marriage.

Irene was a devoted homemaker. She loved making pies and was talented at making any kind of pie the family desired. Irene enjoyed crocheting blankets, hats, and scarves for her family. She often made ceramic pieces and enjoyed going to bingo. Irene was the happiest when the family would gather together to play badminton and croquet. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Irene leaves behind her beloved husband, Ezra; one son, Jonathan (Nancy) Dorney; two daughters, Theresa Hernandez, and Kathleen Ayers; many loved grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; three daughters, Linda, Joann, and Evelyn; five brothers; and four sisters.

In keeping with Irene’s wishes, no formal services are planned at this time.

Rita Joyce Talley, 91

Rita Joyce Talley, 91, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away January 17, 2024, at her residence.

Services will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham, with Pastor Freels officiating. A burial to follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time-of-service Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

Joyce was born to the late William and Myrtle (McClellan) Peach on May 13, 1932, in Gibson County, Indiana. She was married to Dwight Talley on October 3, 1951, in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Surviving is her son Kevin Dwight (Lori) Talley of Mount Carmel, Illinois, granddaughter Sarah (Glenn) Hager, son-in-law Charles Pixley, brother Gene (Alice) Peach, sister Linda Spencer, and great-grandson’s Hudson Hager and Brody Hager. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Christina Talley, great-granddaughter Zoe Hager, infant brother William Peach, brothers: Ronald Peach, Donald Peach, Larry Peach, and sisters: Edith Julian and Joann Hughes.

She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Mount Carmel, Illinois. Church was especially important to her, she loved her Sunday School class and working in the Food Pantry. Joyce enjoyed knitting, especially dish clothes. She loved caring for her yard, mowing, and tending to her flower garden, she even enjoyed pulling weeds. Joyce had a tender spot in her heart for the children at the Baptist Childrens Home.

Barbara E. McClellan, 93

Barbara E. McClellan, 93, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away January 10, 2024, at Deaconess Midtown in Evansville, Indiana.

Services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham, with Tony Hodgson officiating. A burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham.

Barbara was born to the late Walter Ray and Marie (Tabler) Yarbrough on March 4, 1930, in Washington, Indiana. She attended Mt. Carmel High School and graduated with the class of 1952. Surviving are her three children: Randall Paul (Angie) McClellan of Clarksville, Tennessee, Kathy S. (Mike) Sutton of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and Debbie (KeKo) Miller of Bridgeport, Illinois. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Samantha (Michael) Miller, Jessica (Allen) Miller, Jacob (Harley) Miller, Owen Sutton, Gary (Lacey) Sutton, Jason Wallace, Stacey (Bernie) Bilenki, Jennifer (Corbett) Raines, James Paul (Amy) McClellan, Jackie McClellan, and Angelica Rodriguez; 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Brenda C. McClellan, two sisters: Marjorie Kissling and Norma Hopper, three brothers: Dan, Ray, and Lawrence Yarbourgh, and her great-granddaughter Megan Hamilton-McClellan

Barbara worked for the General Telephone Company, was a nurse’s aide, and as a Custodian for 18 years for Mt. Carmel High School. She loved painting pictures of landscapes. Barbara loved going to Beall Woods and enjoyed fishing there. She also loved cooking out with family and camping. She was a member of Heartland Worship Center in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Malvin Glen Kepley, 82

Malvin Glen Kepley, 82, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024, at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana, with his loving wife by his side.  He was born January 10, 1941, in Vincennes, Indiana, the son of Glen E. and Edna (Thompson) Kepley.  He married Linda Walter on April 12, 1981, and they celebrated forty-two years of loving marriage.

Malvin worked on the family farm until he was in his forties and then went to work for Dersch Oil as a truck driver.  His true calling came a little later when he owned and operated a successful house painting business, Kepley Painting.  Malvin was a Rotary Club member where he was a past President and past Assistant Governor.  He also was a former member of the Elks, the Masons and for a time was a member of the Allendale Fire Department.  Malvin belonged to Poseyville Christian Church Disciples of Christ.  He was a very kind and caring man who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. 

Malvin leaves behind his beloved wife, Linda; one son, Malvin Douglas Kepley; one daughter, Karen (Kepley) McGrane; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, Joe Glass.

Malvin was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Gwendolyn Kaye (Kepley) Glass. 

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.

Bernard L. Turpin, 73

Bernard L. Turpin, 73, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

 Services will be held at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Harrison Cemetery, Lancaster, Illinois.

 A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2024, in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m.

 Bernard was born in his grandparents’ home December 26, 1950, to Robert L. Turpin and Viola Ruth (Fildes) Turpin in Mt. Erie, Illinois. He graduated from Albion High School and received as Associate Degree from Olney Central College. Bernard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

 On July 6, 1973, he married Marilyn Neikirk at the United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Illinois. To this union two daughters were born: Jamie Turpin and Melissa (John) Henson of Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Along with his wife and daughters, five grandchildren survive: Nick, Curt, Joe, Jesse, and Sadie Henson; and two sisters: Barbara Gaulden and Roberta (Allen) Smith of West Salem, Illinois.

Preceding him in death were parents, Robert L. Turpin and Barb, and Viola Ruth Wisner and Don, and a brother, Clyde Turpin.

Bernard worked forty-six years for Champion Labs in the tool and die department. He was a member of VFW. Bernard enjoyed riding his 1972 Harley Davidson Sportster. He loved spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren.

Connie Hosmer, 68

Connie Hosmer, 68, of Olney, Illinois, formerly of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 5, 2024, at home. She was born on August 22, 1955, in Fairfield, Illinois, the daughter of Leonard Harper and Maxine (Mathews) Young.

Connie earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Southern Indiana and was employed by Southeastern Illinois Counseling Center. She also attended St. Louis Christian College. Connie was an advocate for the special needs population. In her spare time, she enjoyed music, playing the piano, singing, and reading. Connie liked to go thrifting and expressed her creativeness through scrapbooking. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Connie leaves behind her son, Adam Hosmer; two brothers, Mathew Harper, and Allen Harper; two sisters, Cara (Matt) Stemm, and Cathy Hayes; several nieces and nephews.

Connie was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Harper, mother, Maxine Young; daughter, Emily Hosmer.
