Opal Sprinkle, 101

Opal Sprinkle, 101, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away Friday, October 11, 2019 at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by the love of her family. She was born August 11, 1918 in Charleston Arkansas, the daughter of Granville Lee and Mary Katherine (Brown) Mitchell. She married Lloyd Sprinkle who preceded her in death.

Opal was devoted homemaker. Spending time in her yard and garden brought her great pleasure. She enjoyed sewing for her family and her home. Opal loved listening to Southern Gospel music and attended concerts as long as she was able. She was a member of Lancaster Zion United Methodist Church. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Opal will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Deena Kurtz and her husband, Dale; sisters, Lorine Sanders, La Juana Hampton; sisters in law, Wanda Mitchell, Elnora Deisher; and many nieces and nephews.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, John Ann Lanning, Cleo Smith, Inez Mullaney, Hazel Couch, Theda Leighty; Brothers, Giles, Duane and Don Mitchell.

Annette Joyce Kemper (Mowatt), 77

Annette Joyce Kemper (Mowatt), 77, of Hendersonville, TN, formerly of Mt. Carmel, IL, passed away peacefully Friday, October 4th, 2019 at her home. She was born October 12, 1941 in Princeton, IN, the eldest of three children to Morris and Irene (Simpson) Kemper, both of whom preceded her in death.

Annette graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1959 and attended Southern Illinois University.

She is survived by a daughter, Stephanie (Mowatt) Carlson and her husband Bob of Woodridge, Illinois; grandson Scott Carlson and granddaughters Haley Mowatt, Natalie (Carlson) Yasskin and her husband Bennett, and Melanie Carlson; brother Jim Kemper and his wife Mai; nieces Jeannie Bilskie, Jo Anne Shular, Tiffany Seaton, Tammy Rhodes, Mina Nolan, Moya Thompson, Misa Thomas, and Madea Gordon; and nephews Tim Kemper and Troy Kemper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Irene Kemper, her sister, Nancy Shular and her son Steven Mowatt.

During her lifetime Annette followed many of her passions, including her creativity demonstrated through her love of arts and crafts; her exceptional golf abilities, winning many tournaments including the Evansville Country Club Women’s Championship in 1989; and her interest in the latest consumer technologies. She later had an interest in essential oils and was passionate about helping others through natural healing.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19th, 2019 at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N Mulberry St., Mt. Carmel, IL followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m.

Larry Franklin Banks, age 68

Larry Franklin Banks, age 68 of Foley, Alabama (formerly of Mt. Carmel, Illinois) passed from this life to the next early on the morning of Friday, September 27, 2019 at the South Baldwin Regional Medical Center.

Larry was born in Princeton, Indiana on December 12, 1950 to Albert F. and Ruth L. (Mayhall) Banks.

He was a Veteran who served his country in the US Marine Corps for a total of seven years.

He married DiAnna Gaddy on December 11, 1982 in Dundas, Illinois. Larry and DiAnna enjoyed almost thirty-seven years of a wonderful marriage partnership.

He was a hard worker and for several years was employed in the old fields and was also a truck driver; working most recently before his retirement for Schneider Trucking Company.

Larry enjoyed activities from working in the yard to working puzzles. He never met a stranger and could always engage even the most shy person in a lively conversation. His greatest enjoyment was being with his close friends and his family.

Those family members who will miss him greatly include: his father, Albert F. Banks, his wife, DiAnna Banks, daughters: Dannette L. Lewis, Annette L. Fortner and Christina K. Hicks, sons: Aaron B. Banks and Thomas Lewis, Sr. Larry will also be missed by his sister, Regina Lear and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth L. Banks and two grandchildren, Erica Hicks and Devon Hicks; whom he has reunited with once again.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 10AM to 11AM at the Ingram-Meridith Funeral Home in Allendale, IL.

At 11AM, Pastor Stephen Freels will speak briefly at the funeral home and then give concluding remarks at the committal service, which will take place at the Zion United Methodist Cemetery.

The cemetery is located two miles west and one-half mile south of the Billet, Illinois road which is just off Route 1.

Military Rites will be given at the graveside committal.

George W. Woodcock, 89

George W. Woodcock, 89, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, peacefully passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 13, 1930, in Brownsville, Kentucky, the son of Melittia (VanMeter) and George Washington Woodcock, Sr.  After graduating Brownsville High School, George entered the U.S. Army.   He served our country from 1947 through 1948.  From 1952 until 1953 George served in Korea as a Lt. in the 45th Division 180th Infantry Regiment.

Upon his return, he enrolled at Western Kentucky University for undergraduate courses and continued his education at the University of Kentucky graduating with a law degree.  George started his law practice in Morgantown, Kentucky.  In 1957 he moved to Mt. Carmel, Illinois, forming a law practice as McGaughey, McGaughey, Henry and Woodcock.  In March of 1962 George opened his own law practice.  He was a member of the Illinois Bar Association and Kentucky Bar Association.

At this point, he also began being actively involved in politics. George was elected State’s Attorney of Wabash County and served from 1968 through 1972.  In 1972 and 1976 he was elected delegate to the Republican National Convention.  In 1972, George was elected President of the Illinois Republican’s County Chairman’s Association, and in 1974, he was elected to be a State Member of the Illinois Republican State Central Committee.  George ran for and was elected Mayor of Mt. Carmel.  He served four terms, 1979 to 1986 and 1995 to 2003, starting the drive to build a new bridge over the Wabash River. 

On July 4, 1979, George married Marcia Hudson.  They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year.  He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

For 50 years George was a member of the following organizations:  The Brotherhood Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 715, where he served as Exalted Ruler, The American Legion, serving as Past Commander of the Mt. Carmel Post, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Shriner’s International Ainad Temple and Wabash Valley Shrine Club and The Washington Meredith Masonic Lodge in Brownsville, Kentucky.  He was a member of Mt. Carmel Eagles Club.

He served as a member of The Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club in Mt. Carmel, was the original organizer for the booster’s club at Wabash Valley College and one of the four members who was instrumental in starting Little League Football in Mt. Carmel.  In addition, George served as Director for The First National Bank of Allendale for 30 years and Director and Vice-President for the Bank of Edmonson County for over 40 years.

Left to cherish George’s memory is his wife of 40 years, Marcia; children, Margaret Nell Woodcock, Marilynn Woodcock Bader and her husband, Mark and George W. Woodcock, III and his wife Pam, all of Mt. Carmel; grandchildren, Jeremy Scott Bader, Jennifer (John) Adams, Katie Potts, Nathan (Amy) Woodcock, Hannah (Jon) Jent, Jordan Woodcock and MacKenzie (Sebastian) Price; great-grandchildren, Grace, Emma, John Lee and Addison Adams, Wyatt and Xander Bader, Mason and Aubrey Potts, Stella, Scarlett and Sophia Woodcock, Isabella, Ava and Georgia Jent, Harlow, Eloise and Ivy Price; siblings, Helen Edwards, Alma Chapman and Scottie (Ethel) Woodcock; and, Margaret (Peet) Woodcock, the mother of his children.

George was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Edward George Woodcock and Barbara Woodcock Donahue.

Funeral services for George will be held Monday, September 30, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 512 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Friends and family are welcome for a visitation Sunday, September 29, 2019, from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  A Masonic service will be at 6:00 p.m.

Jimmy L. “Jim” McVaigh 51

Jimmy L. “Jim” McVaigh 51, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2019.  He was born on October 28, 1967 in Berryville, Illinois, the son of Gene and Glenna (Jones) McVaigh.  He married Tracee Tennis and she survives. 

 Jim was a very hard-working man.  He owned and operated McVaigh Welding Shop in Wabash County for the past twelve years.  He was very good at his trade and in every job he did, he gave it his all.   Jim was previously employed at the Albion Police Department and the Edwards County Sheriff’s Department.  He taught the Concealed Carry Class to area residents.  In his spare time, he loved fishing, hunting, trail riding and camping with his family.  He greatly enjoyed the outdoors.  Jim loved his children and wife.  He will be dearly missed.

 Jim is survived by his wife, Tracee; son, Mitchell McVaigh of Albion, IL; daughters, Rae McVaigh and Glenna McVaigh of Mt. Carmel; father, Gene McVaigh; and brother, Bert McVaigh.

 Jim was preceded in death by his mother; and one brother, Neal McVaigh.

Funeral Services were held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday September 22, 2019 at the E.U.M. Church to honor the life of Robert Donne Leo Mann. Pastors Jeremy Henson and Bill Bunnage conducted the service which included Prayers, Scripture Readings, Memories, Words of Hope and Blessing. Keyboard and organ music were provided by Sherry Beck and RoseAnn Capin. Congregational songs included “A New Name In Glory”, “Blessed Be The Name” and “Victory In Jesus”. Chris Quick sang “No One Cared For Me Like Jesus” and “Precious Lord Take My Hand”. Special music performed by Maggie, Gracie, Titus and Silas Mann included “Amazing Grace” and “Love Song”. The closing song was a recording by Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole of “Unforgettable”. Burial took place at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Dr. Tommy R. Young II, 78

Dr. Tommy R. Young II, 78, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at The Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana surrounded by the love of his family. He was born August 10, 1941 in Princeton, Indiana, the son of Dr. Tommy R. Young and Katherine (Anstaett) Young. He married Joyce Brewer on June 25, 1966 and together they enjoyed fifty-three years of marriage.

At the age of fourteen, Tommy attended the Kentucky Military Institute where he graduated in 1959. Tommy was a graduate of DePauw University, University of Arkansas and Louisiana State University obtaining his PhD in American History. He had quite an extensive teaching career teaching at Texas Tech University, US Army Command & General Staff College, the University of Missouri, Kansas City, St. Mary’s College at Kansas State Men’s Penitentiary and the US Disciplinary Barracks. In 1981 Tommy went to work as a historian at the Air Force Communications Command Center. He would later transfer to the Office of History at the Air Mobility Command. Tommy retired in September of 2001, then he and Joyce returned to the family home in Mt. Carmel. In Retirement he continued to write encyclopedia articles on Military Communications. In addition, he wrote a history of the Kentucky Military Institute. Tommy also served on the Board of the Wabash County Museum and was a member of the Board of the Wabash Valley College Foundation.

Tommy will forever be remembered by his wife, Joyce; son, Jeffrey Young his wife, Sarah of Swansea, Illinois; granddaughter, Katherine Young; and many friends he made all throughout his life.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Tommy R. Young III.

In keeping with Tommy’s wishes, there will be no public services. A private burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Robert Donne Leo Mann, 88

Robert Donne Leo Mann, 88, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at his residence with his wife and son, Matthew Mann by his side. He was born on July 15, 1931 in Wabash County, Illinois, the son of Franklin and Mattie (Leek) Mann. He graduated from Allendale High School Class of 1950. Don married Janet Rigg on November 10, 1960 at the E.U.B. Church in Mount Carmel.

Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His family was his number one priority and he treasured the time he spent with them. A strong work ethic was a trait Don carried with him throughout his life. He began working at the age of twelve and retired in 1996. Don worked in road construction as a heavy equipment operator and worked for over twenty-five years at Mount Carmel Sand & Gravel. Among Don’s hobbies, he loved working in his garden and tinkering on things around his house. He was a proud member of the IUOE # 841 since 1957. Don was a faithful member of E.U.M. Church in Mount Carmel, IL. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Don will be remembered by his loving wife of fifty eight years, Janet Mann; three sons, Michael (Julia) Mann of Glen Ellyn, IL, Monte (Helen) Mann of Acworth, GA and Matthew (Julie) Mann of Mount Carmel; ten grandchildren, Emily (Eric) Shekarabi, Jillian Mann, Elizabeth (Jeremy) McClung, Jonathon Mann, Bryce Mann, Clayton Mann, Maggie Mann, Gracie Mann, Silas Mann and Titus Mann; one great grandchild, Valerie Mink; brother in law, Phillip Parks; two sister in laws, Mary Mann and Dixie Mann; several loved nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Parks; brothers, Dennis Mann and Dean Mann.

Doris R. “Dot” Tolley, 89

Doris R. “Dot” Tolley, 89, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 17, 2019 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on January 2, 1930 in Norris City, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas and Rebecca (Forrester) Gidcumb. She married James R. “Bob” Tolley on April 12, 1949 in Maunie, IL and he preceded her in death on August 1, 2015 after sixty-six years of marriage.

Dot began working at Hadley’s Café in 1963 and remained a valued employee there until it’s closing in 2009. She was well known in the community for her delicious pies. One particular Thanksgiving, she baked over one hundred pies for area families. Dot loved to cook and bake for her family. She could often be found in her kitchen singing while cooking a delicious meal. Dot also enjoyed gardening. She had a love for roses and could grow some absolute beauties. Dot was very hardworking and had a kind soul. She never met a stranger. She lovingly referred to her husband as “Her Bob” and he in turn called her “His Doris”. Dot was a member of First General Baptist Church. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

Dot will be remembered by her daughter, Joanne (Steve) Elliott of Mount Carmel; grandchildren, Dena (Warren) Tarpley, Tracey (Jeff) Kell and Shad Elliott; five great-grandchildren, Andrew (Kaycee) Curtis, Courtney (Brandon) Roberts, Nate (Casey) Kell, Mackenzie Kell and Alli Kell; great-great-grandson, Kayden Ray Roberts; sisters, Dorothy Banks, Phyllis Edwards; and one brother, Don Gidcumb.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson-in-law, John Curtis; four brothers; and three sisters.

Graveside Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 20, 2019 at Bethel Cemetery in Bellmont, Illinois with Pastor Gary Underwood officiating. Dot will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Bob. No public Visitation will be held. Please meet at the cemetery.

John S. “Sammy” Carwile, Sr., 79

John S. “Sammy” Carwile, Sr., 79, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019 at his residence. He was born on August 4, 1940 in Evansville, Indiana, the son of John and Mildred (Beard) Carwile. He was married to Janis Faye Carrol who preceded him in death.

John worked in the carpentry business for many years operating the business known as Cummings and Carwile. He had a love for animals of all kind. Over the years he even raised many different exotic animals. He greatly enjoyed being outdoors. John was fond of western movies, in particular, those which starred John Wayne. He loved his family and his grandbabies held a very special place in his heart. John will be missed by all who knew him.

John will be remembered by his four sons, Dwayne (Mary Beth) Carwile of Allendale, IL, Kent Carwile of Evansville, IN, Johnnie (Sonya) Carwile of Ashland, IL, Allen (Chris) Carwile of Allendale, IL; daughter, Cheryl (Chuck) Tewell of Louisville, KY; twenty grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, David (Kathy) Carwile, Robert (Rosilee) Carwile; four sisters, Debbie (Bob) Hall, Annie (Rodger) Miller, Lucille (Bob) Rusche, Peggy (Sonny) McCullough; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Sondra Burton; brothers, Thomas Carwile, Jim Cummings; and sister, Dolly Carwile.

Jessie M. Crow, 85

Jessie M. Crow, 85, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on February 13, 1934 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Kell and Leona (Straw) Woods.

Jessie was a member of the Mount Carmel High School Class of 1951. She worked many years in a variety of local establishments, including The Daily Republican Register, Hadley’s Café, The Elks Club, Hacklers Vogue, and Index Notions. Wherever she was working, Jessie always had a cheerful heart and a helping hand. For several years, Jessie owned and operated “Jessie Lee’s Fashions”, offering quality apparel and accessories. In her spare time, Jessie enjoyed making ceramic pieces and other crafts. She loved to have fun and was proud of the time she won the Little Lotto. Jessie had a love for animals of all kinds. Getting together with her family was her most favorite thing to do. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Jessie was a positive influence in all of their lives. She was a member of Parkview Christian Church. Jessie was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Sondra Faye Burton, 55

Sondra Faye Burton, 55, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019 at her father’s home.  She was born on September 23, 1963 in Phoenix, Arizona, the daughter of John Samuel and Janis (Carrol) Carwile, Sr.  She married Thomas Burton on May 30, 2012 and he survives.

 Sondra was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She enjoyed life and was very kind hearted.  She worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Mount Carmel High School for ten-plus years and also as a Nurse’s Aide and Care Giver.  She greatly enjoyed caring for her elderly parents.  In her spare time, Sondra loved to crochet.  Her family meant the world to her, especially her three grandchildren.  Sondra was a member of Heartland Worship Center.  She will be dearly missed.

Natalie P. Medina, 21

Natalie P. Medina, 21, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 20, 1998 in Centralia Illinois, the daughter of Josh and Mistie (Goss) Medina.

Natalie was a 2017 graduate of Mount Carmel High School. She was a great athlete and important member of both the Softball and Volleyball teams. She went on to Wabash Valley College where she again played Volleyball and graduated with an Associates Degree in Science & Arts. She was accepted to Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville and Lakeland College. Natalie worked at Taco Tierra for five years and dearly loved her Taco family. Her greatest achievement was being a friend to many. Natalie touched so many lives both near and far. She had a knack for making everyone feel special and to Natalie, it didn’t matter if someone was a Freshman or a Senior, she loved her friends equally. Spending time with her friends was her favorite thing to do. It has been said that Natalie was “larger than life” and could often be counted on to be the life of the party. She was affectionately given the nickname “Deaner”. Natalie loved music and food. Natalie and her younger brother, Trevin, shared a very special bond. She admired him and looked out for him and he would do the same for her. She was one of his biggest supporters. She will be dearly missed.

Cecilia G. Bellessa, 81

Cecilia G. Bellessa, 81, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Acorn Estates surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 30, 1938 in Gibson County, Indiana, the daughter of Raymond Sr. and Mary (Peter) Kieffer. She married Dale Bellessa on July 4, 1957 and he preceded her in death on August 15, 2010 after fifty-three years of marriage.

As an infant Cecilia was given the nickname of “Pete” by her two-year-old brother, Ron, who would say his new baby sister was “sweet”, but, it sounded like “Pete”. Throughout her life, the name stayed with her so she was lovingly known as “Pete” to her family and friends. Cecilia was a loving, caring and giving woman. She was a wonderful homemaker and her family and extended family was very important to her. For many years she chaired the funeral dinner ministry at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. Cecilia enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Ladies Society. For forty years, she worked as an Election Judge in Precinct #5. She was a friendly, familiar face at the area auctions conducted by Mobley and Grant whom she worked for as a clerk for thirty-plus years. Cecilia had a love for music and treasured her Monday nights at Hogg Heaven Restaurant listening to the music and visiting with friends. Cecilia was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic church. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Cecilia will forever be remembered by her sons, Domonick (Kim) Bellessa of Newburgh, IN, David (Sheila) Bellessa of Elizabethton, TN, Danny Bellessa of Decatur, IL, and Darin Bellessa of Vincennes, IN; grandchildren, Katie Bellessa, Taylor Bellessa, Morgan (Jason) Lyons, Hannah & Halle Bellessa, Drake & Brady Bellessa; sisters, Dorothy Walters, Virginia Goldman; brothers, Joe Ray (Mary Lou) Kieffer, Ron (Jo Ella) Kieffer, Jerome (Mary Jean) Kieffer, David Kieffer, Michael (Nancy) Kieffer; many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ben Allen Adams

Ben Allen Adams passed away August 29, 2019, at birth, in Evansville, Indiana, at St. Vincent Medical Center.

Ben’s parents are Thomas Leroy Mayer and Erin Elizabeth (Harms) Adams of Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

He is survived by his parents; maternal family, Cassie Lingo, Jennifer Harms, Kathy and Ron Pulliam; paternal family, Thomas Mayer; uncle, Randy Riggs; aunts, Samantha Harms, Nicole Adams, Brandy Mayer and Eliza Dill; and several cousins.

Miles Alexander Paris, 12

Miles Alexander Paris, 12, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on February 6, 2007 in Evansville, Indiana, the son of Levi McDaniel and Marva Paris.

Miles was a 7th grade student at Mount Carmel Junior High School. He never knew a stranger and if you knew Miles, you knew he loved to talk. He will always be remembered for his big heart. In his free time, Miles loved playing video games and hanging out with his big brother, Slater. He also enjoyed listening to music. He loved playing basketball and was on the basketball team for the Mount Carmel Middle School. Anytime Miles would leave he would always say, “I love you”. He attended Thursday Church in Vincennes, Indiana.

Miles will be remembered by his mother, Marva Paris; father, Levi McDaniel; brothers, Slater Charest, Gunner Brewster and Keaton McDaniel; sisters, Kinsley, Abby and Addison McDaniel; maternal grandmother, Susan Price; maternal grandfather, Terry Paris; paternal grandmother, Karen Alvis; aunts, Paige Whitman, Amber Preston and Livia Houser; special cousin’s, Jayde Whitman and Grant Wampler; many loved aunts, uncles and cousins; many special friends and classmates.

L. E. “ANDY” ANDERSON, 88

Andy Anderson, 88, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, peacefully passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019, at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born August 24, 1931, in Hugoton, Kansas, the son of Webb and Lucille (Flummerfelt) Anderson. The family moved to Mt. Carmel, Illinois, in 1937. Andy graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1953. On June 24, 1953, Andy married Mary Ann Baumgart in Mt. Carmel at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The couple had four children; Ray, Randy, Rick and Roseann Anderson.

Andy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He farmed and raised chickens and goats his entire life. Andy traveled to show chickens nationally for years and helped develop and improve upon several different varieties. He founded the Wabash County 4-H Youth Program in 1970, which grew into the County 4-H Fairground Complex. Andy was president of the Wabash County 4-H Youth Program at its inception in 1970 and remained in that position for over 40 years.

He was a founder of the Wabash County ARC in 1975 and served as their president. From 1953-1995, Andy was president of Anderson Brothers Oil, Phillips 66 that he owned and operated with his brother Don for many years. He served as director of the Southern Illinois Pigeon Club, Security Bank and Trust and Illinois Jaycees; president of the Red Hill Bantam Club, Wabash County University of Illinois Extension Board and St. Mary’s School Board.

Over the years Andy has been a driving force within various community and philanthropic organizations too numerous to list. He loved making jeweled crosses and touched many households adorned with them all over the world. He was featured in the prestigious publication of “Who’s Who of the Midwest.” But, if you asked Andy what he did in his life…he would simply say… “I’m a farmer.”

Left to cherish Andy’s memory are his children Ray Anderson, Randy Anderson and wife Brenda, Rick Anderson and wife Sheila and Roseann Anderson; thirteen grandchildren, Nikki, Jenifer, Clint, Ryan, Christopher, Kyle, Emma, Chasity, Krissy, Abbey, Jenna, Petyon and Taylor; nineteen great-grandchildren; siblings Dean and Erma Flummerfelt and Marvin and Frances Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ann; and brother, Don Anderson.

Funeral services for Andy will be Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 125 W. 5th Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 6, 2019, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to the 4-H Foundation or St. Mary’s Catholic School. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at the church the day of the service.
