Funeral Report-Richard “Dick” Tisdale.

Funeral Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Heartland Worship Center to honor the life of Richard “Dick” Tisdale.  Pastor Tony Hodgson officiated the service.  Musical selection during the service included, “I Will Rise” by Chris Tomblin, “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercy Me, “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone” by Chris Tomblin and “Precious Memories” by Alan Jackson.  Pallbearers were Tim and Sherry Stinson, Tracy and Ron Effland, Rick Tisdale, Michael Stinson, Bob Tisdale and Kevin Marchal.  Honorary pallbearers were Jack Singer, Tony Compton, Ed Hicks, Larry Blaize, Ken Burkitt and Art Mager.  Burial took place at Highland Memorial Cemetery.  The processional to the cemetery included several local policemen and a firetruck.  Mike Cunningham played bagpipes at the cemetery while the casket was being carried to the grave.  Following the Flag Presentation, Twenty-One Gun Salute and the playing of “Taps” by our local American Legion and VFW honor guard, Mike Cunningham played “Amazing Grace” on bagpipes.  At the conclusion of the service, our Mount Carmel Police Department honored Dick with a Last Call over the scanner for his faithful service of twenty-eight years to the police force.  The family of Dick Tisdale would like to thank the Mount Carmel Police Department and Mount Carmel Fire Department for the tribute that was given to him during the service.  Keepes Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Richard “Dick” Tisdale.

William Bryant “Sonny” Jeffers, 84

William Bryant “Sonny” Jeffers passed peacefully with his family by his side on July 22, 2018.  A celebration of his life will be held at First Baptist Church at 4:00 pm on Saturday, August 4, with visitation from 1-4 pm that day.  His longtime friend and pastor, Randy Mullinax will be officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.

He was born on April 21, 1934 to Lavena (Perkins) and Bill Jeffers in Providence, KY.  He attended grade and high school in Mt. Carmel, graduating from MCHS in 1952.  He especially enjoyed the “Class of 52” monthly lunches, even until his last days.

On August 8, 1954, Sonny married Mary Lou Meritt, the love of his life and partner for almost 64 years.  After graduating from Southern Illinois University in 1956 with a degree in Business Administration, he was drafted into the Army. From 1956-1958 he was stationed in Texas where he had many great experiences, especially since Elvis was also there at the same time. His strong patriotic feelings were reflected in his love of the flag.

Returning to Mt. Carmel, he and Mary Lou both started their teaching careers and found that one of them was much more suited than the other for that profession.  After a year of teaching and coaching in St. Francisville, Bryant began his career in business.

In 1964, Bryant and Charlie Tate purchased the Charles L. Miller Insurance Agency.  He continued the agency and Now Realty following Charlie’s retirement with his daughter, Melanie.  He sold the business in 2001 to First Bank and retired from there in 2007. His favorite part of his day was starting with coffee at the “round table” at Hadley’s’ and later Hogg Heaven and McDonalds.

Bryant was very involved in the community, both formally and informally.  He was a past member of Kiwanis, Shriners, Area Industrial Development and Chamber of Commerce. But he most enjoyed giving back in informal ways by passing out ice scrapers during the first snow of the season, spraying weeds down Cherry Street or College Drive and passing out lemonade on the hottest days of summer.

As a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, his involvement extended from Sunday school teacher in the 1960s and deacon for four decades to greeter and leader of the Koinonia Youth Group in the 1970s and 1980s. After his retirement, he was a member of the Baptist State Association Disaster Relief Team.

Football was always his favorite sport--whether it was playing for MCHS in high school, serving as a high school football referee, watching his grandsons play football, cooking breakfast for the team on game day or watching football with his grandson.  He was a devoted Aces Fan.

In addition to his wife, Mary Lou, his children are here to honor and remember him: Jaleigh (Mike) White, Melanie (Dino) Gavanes and Brad (Carolyn) Jeffers.  He is also survived by his sister Barb “Bobbie” (Bob) Brewer, grandchildren Beau (Amanda) Singer, Zach (Karen) Singer, Katina (Eric) Czachorski, Dakota (Alisha) White, Madison White and Kain, Gabby, Luke and Josiah Jeffers as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks goes to Dr. Jennings and his staff and the entire staff of Wabash General Hospital for their devoted care to him through his many ailments.  In his last days he was blessed to be cared for by very special home health caregivers and the team at Oakview Heights.

Mary Kathleen (Stalions) Nash, 95

          Mary Kathleen (Stalions) Nash, 95, of Fairfield IL, formerly of Mt. Carmel, passed away peacefully July 20, 2018 at her daughter’s house surrounded by her family.

She was born March 13, 1923 in Lancaster, IL, the daughter of Virgil Stalions and Iva Esther (Seibert) Stalions.

She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church of Mt. Carmel, IL. She was a seamstress and had worked at the Mt. Carmel Apparel Company for 12 years.  Kathleen loved working outside with her flowers.

On April 25, 1943 she married John E. (Jack) Nash.  He preceded her in death on November 1, 1978.

She is survived by her son William Kent Nash, Champaign, IL, daughter, Karen Sue (Charles) Turner, Fairfield, IL, and daughter-in-law, Rita Nash, Mt. Carmel, IL.  Six grandchildren, Scott (Meg) Nash , Round Hill, VA, Jay (Sonya) Nash, Gulf  Breeze, FL; Heather (Evan) Wills, Lucasville, OH; Chris (Jessica) Turner, Fairfield; Kathleen (Troy) Walker, Mansfield, IL; Kim (Jason) O’Connor, San Antonio, TX.  Fourteen great-grandchildren, J.T. and Connor Nash; Aaliyah, Ciara, and Kenzie Turner; Emma and Sadie Wills; Lillie, Lauren, Ivy, and Parker Nash; Becca, James, and Bradley O’Connor.  Several nieces and nephews all very special to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, John  Michael; daughter, Kathy Ann; granddaughter, Amy Turner; daughter-in-law, Becky Nash; brother, Glen Stalions; and sisters, Iris Smith and Esther Stallings.

Visitation for Kathleen will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at EUM Church from 2-4 p.m. with funeral following at 4:30 p.m.

Richard L. “Dick” Tisdale, 77

Richard L. “Dick” Tisdale, 77, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away Friday, July 20, 2018 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehab surrounded by the love of his family.  He was born on September 28, 1940 in Keensburg, Illinois the son of Elmer L. and Edna (Van Matre) Tisdale.

Dick proudly served his country in the United States Navy.  During active duty he was stationed on the USS Orion at Norfolk, Virginia and then transferred to the Naval Reserves as a Commandant, Ninth, in the Great Lakes, Illinois Naval District.  As a civilian, Dick dedicated his career as an officer with the Mount Carmel Police Department where he served for twenty-eight years.  He then continued working for Mount Carmel Public Utility Company for ten years.  During his free time, Dick loved bird watching, especially the hummingbirds.  He was an avid die cast car collector and enjoyed following NASCAR racing.  Dick could often be found helping with the food ministry, Bridges of Hope.  He was a very active member of Heartland Worship Center. He truly loved people whom he always greeted with is infectious smile.  Most importantly, Dick had a great love for his family and grandchildren. Dick will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Dick will be remembered by his sons, Rick (Yvonne) Tisdale of West Salem, IL, Tim (Sherry) Stinson of Mount Carmel, IL; daughter Tracy (Ron) Effland of Battlefield, MO;  grandchildren, Daniel Tisdale & family, Laura Phillips & family, Michael (Erin) Stinson, Sarah (Kevin) Marchal, Valerie Effland, Reed (Abri) Effland, Brooke Effland, Andy (Debbie) Bailey, Matthew (Anne) McClane, Carrie Beth McClane and Haley Mae McClane; great-grandchildren, Elliot Stinson, Levi Morris, Liam Morris;  brother, Robert (Shirley) Tisdale of Winchester, VA;

The funeral service for Rebecca Joan Beck-Sturm was held Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home. Pastor Mike Fields conducted the service. It included Prayer, Scripture Readings, Eulogy and Message. Sherry Beck was keyboardist playing prelude and postlude music. During the service Jill Bradshaw, Joan’s daughter, sang “Celebrate Me Home” and John Beck, Deb Buchanan, Becky Bennett and Jill Bradshaw, Joan’s children, sang “That Old Country Church.” The burial service was conducted by Pastor Fields at Orio Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chad Bennett, Andy Bennett, Ryan Goodner, Benjamin Bradshaw, Jaxon Bradshaw, Keaton Bradshaw and Lanny Peach. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Bradshaw, Verl Buchanan and Ed Bennett. Rebecca Joan Beck-Sturm, 86

Rebecca Joan Beck-Sturm, 86, formally of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed from this life on Sunday July 15, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. at the Wabash Christian Village in Carmi, Illinois.

Joan was born December 17, 1931 in Keensburg, Illinois the daughter of Leo and Ferris (Gray) Richardson.

She married John Harold Beck at the Methodist Parsonage in Bellmont, Illinois on June 17, 1949. Joan and John owned and operated Joan’s Craft and Gifts in Mt Carmel, Illinois for 11 years.  She also worked side by side with John for 33 years serving the Lord in song and service to the people of the United Methodist Southern Illinois District.  They enjoyed 54 years of marriage before his death on September 1, 2003.  Joan later met and married Lenard Sturm in Grayville, Illinois on January 5, 2008.  Their time together was shortened when he passed away on April 28, 2014.   Joan was a lifelong member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. 

Joan is survived by four children, daughters Debbie (Verl) Buchanan of Bettendorf, Iowa, Becky (Ed) Bennett of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Jill (Jack) Bradshaw of Carmi, Illinois, son John (Joan) Beck of Toledo, Illinois and stepdaughter Georgia (Tom) Davis of Dallas, Texas.  She had seven grandchildren Tim (friend Kristi Reich) Buchanan of Denver, Colorado, Jonnikka (Andy) Karrer of Bettendorf, Iowa, Chad (Sara) Bennett of Indianapolis, Indiana, Andrew (Deakin) Bennett of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Courtney (Ryan) Goodner of Hoopeston, Illinois, Benjamin (friend Britany Barnes) Bradshaw of Carmi, Illinois, Keaton (Lacey) Bradshaw of Carmi, Illinois, and step grandchild Carey Davis of Dallas, Texas.  She was blessed with ten great grandchildren Tyler and Connor Buchanan, Grayson Karrer, Aiden Bennett, Brylea, Ace, Wyatt Goodner, Addison, Jaxon and Jett Bradshaw.  She also leaves sister-in-law’s Evelyn Richardson, Mary Lou Beck, Sheri Beck, Kay (John) Warthen, and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death along with John and Lenard were her parents, brother Wayne Richardson, sister Barbara Stephens, one infant grandchild and one infant great grandchild.

Services for Joan will be Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois with burial in the Wabash Cemetery, Orio.  Friends may call Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Allen Eugene “Gene” Stoneberger, 65

Allen Eugene “Gene” Stoneberger, 65, of Bellmont, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehab surrounded by the love of his family. He was born October 13, 1952 in Mount Carmel, Illinois the son of Chester L. and Roxie D. (VanMatre) Stoneberger.

Gene was a member of the Mount Carmel High School graduating class of 1970. He enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country until retiring on October 31, 1991. During his service years, he served in Vietnam, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Gene greatly enjoyed caring for several pet birds. He had a Parrot, Parakeet and Cockatiel to keep him company. Gene was a fan of oldies music, most especially Elvis Presley and the 50’s and 60’s Rock and Roll. Gene was recently Baptized into the Christian Faith. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Gene will be remembered by his siblings, James Stoneberger of Bellmont, IL; Evelyn Jones of Lancaster, IL, Linda Ward of Lucedale, MS and Jack Stoneberger of Louisville, IL; nephews, Tim Bruce and Bill Bruce of Lucedale, MS.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Jonny Stoneberger.

In keeping with Gene’s wishes, Cremation Rites will be accorded and a private Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Bethel Cemetery.

Tony Clayton Guard, 63

Tony Clayton Guard, 63 of Alvin TX, peacefully succumbed to COPD in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family on July 3rd, 2018. Tony is survived by his wife Ann (Higgins) Guard of 44 years, Parents Lois and John Guard of Mt. Carmel, IL., Brother Tim Guard of Katy, TX, sister Judith Beuligmann of Mt. Carmel IL., 4 children Tony Clayton Guard II (Jo Lynn) of Salem, IL., Wesley Todd Guard of Alvin, TX., Travis Scot Guard of Dickinson, TX., Kathy Joann Guard of Austin, TX. (Christopher Vela), 8 grandchildren Caly, Cadyn, Kami, Taylor, Mackenzie, Tyler, Zachary, Jayden and 1 great grandchild Carter Ross (Caly). Preceded in death by his infant brother (Tommy). He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. There will be a private celebration of life in his memory.

Richard Eugene Micko

Richard Eugene Micko, born August 29, 1946 in Springfield, Illinois, to Clarence and Virginia Micko, passed away June 29, 2018 in Spring, Texas.  Richard was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother, Steven Micko. 

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Kieffer Micko of Spring, Texas; sons, LTC Joshua Micko and wife, Angie Harrison Micko of Alexandria, Virginia, Brandon Micko and wife, Dr. Karen Janish Micko of Tampa, Florida; and his daughter Kristin Micko Albanese of Spring, Texas.  He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Christian Micko, Katelyn Micko, Nevaeh Albanese, Sofia Micko, and Phoenix Micko and a brother Jerry Micko of Glendale, Arizona.

Richard’s family and friends find great comfort in the knowledge that he has ventured to his eternal home but will deeply miss his strong presence, kind words, unwavering sense of humor, and spiritual influence.

Visitation for friends and family will held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday July 13, 2018 followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m., both at St. Marys Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Barbara June Andrews, 84

Barbara  June  Andrews, 84, of Mt. Carmel, IL passed away on Sunday, July 08, 2018 at The Villages at Oak Ridge in Washington, IN.

          She was born in Marion County, IL on March 24, 1934; the daughter of Charles and Helen (Quayle) Mabry.  Barbara graduated from Mt. Carmel High School and then received her associates’ degree from Wabash Valley College.  Barbara married Thomas A. Andrews on August 03, 1953 in Marhsall, IL. Together they enjoyed years of traveling coast to coast. Family was most important to Barbara, next to that was cooking, baking and cake decorating.  She also enjoyed sewing, gardening and reading.

          Barbara worked many years for Wabash Valley FS in Allendale before retiring from the Wabash Valley College Bookstore.

          Left to cherish her memories is her husband of sixty-four years, Tom; two sons, Michael Andrews of Florida and Stephen Andrews of Louisiana; five grandchildren, Nathan Andrews, Ethan Andrews, KeeLee Guste, Stephanie Andrews, and Dalton Andrews; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Mabry and David Mabry; one sister, Margaret Grimes.

          She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen and two sisters and one brother.

          Visitation for friends and family will be Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. (CST) in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home (527 North Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, IL. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Thursday July 12, 2018 in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home with burial to follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m., July 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home to honor the life of Bonita F. Duncan.   Pastor Stephen Freels conducted the service.  Keyboardist, Marcia Hall played prelude and postlude music for the service.  At the beginning of the service the song, “I Can Only Imagine” was played.  Congregational hymns, “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art” were sang during the service with Marcia Hall on keyboard. Family and friends shared fond memories about Bonita and special times they had together.  Prelude and postlude music included “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, “Old Rugged Cross”, and “I’d Rather Have Jesus”.   Burial took place in Highland Memorial Cemetery where Bonita was laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Clarence E. Duncan.  Pallbearers were Denise McCreary, Stefanie Gladney, Kenneth Gladney, Todd Gill, Eric Bramlett, Bruce Foster and Matthew Foster.  Honorary pallbearers were Ryan Duncan, Brandon Duncan, Megan Flaherty and Dr. Larry Jennings.  Keepes Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Bonita F. Funeral Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2018 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home to honor the life of Patricia Sue Deisher.  Pastor Allan Wright conducted the service that included prayer, reading of the obituary, scripture passages and the funeral sermon.  Musical selection during the service included “Tell me That I’m Dreaming” and “Amazing Grace My Chains Are Gone”.  Following the service Patricia’s grandson, Cameron Wolfe served as pallbearer.  Burial took place in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mount Carmel, IL.  Keepes Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Patricia Sue Deisher.

Bonita F. Duncan, 96

Bonita F. Duncan, 96, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care & Rehab surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on November 16, 1921 in Owensboro, Kentucky the daughter of John R. and Lena P. (Shoulders) Foster.  Bonita married Clarence E. Duncan on October 6, 1940 in Owensboro, Kentucky and he preceded her in death on August 30, 2012.  Bonita and Clarence spent many years travelling to Florida during the winter months.  While in Florida, they made many friendships and enjoyed playing bridge and shuffle board.

Bonita will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She looked forward to family gatherings where she loved to bake for her family.  Bonita also enjoyed working in the garden and spent a lot of time filling the pantry with all the items she canned.  Bonita had a great sense of humor and truly enjoyed helping people.   She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star a fraternal organization through the Masonic Lodge.  Bonita was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Carmel.

Bonita will be lovingly remembered by her son, Norm “Bud” (Nancy) Duncan of Hot Springs, AR; two daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Brown and Norma Goodson both of Mount Carmel; grandchildren, Denise McCreary of Vincennes, IN, Stefanie (Kenneth) Gladney of St. Ann, MO; Ryan Duncan of New York City, NY and Brandon Duncan of San Diego, CA; one great granddaughter, Megan Flaherty.

Bonita was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of seventy-one years, Clarence; brothers, John, Joseph and Tommy Foster.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Freels officiating.   Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery where Bonita will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Clarence.

David Glen “Bear” Walters, 63,

David Glen “Bear” Walters, 63, of Pinkstaff, Illinois, formerly of Mt. Carmel, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 21, 1955 in Fairfield, IL to Glendale “Tubby” and Patricia Ann (Holcomb) Walters. He worked for OH &F in Grayville, IL as a truck driver, and was a driving instructor at Wabash Valley College.

David was a member of the Mt. Carmel Gold Wing Club. He enjoyed camping, traveling to see family out west, hunting and fishing.

Left to cherish David’s memory are his daughters Denise Sloan of Brazil, IN and Danielle (Corey) Clayton of Evansville, IN; brothers, James Pichon, Rick Walters, Timothy Walters; sisters Cathy Shipman and Linda Williams; and special friend Vanessa Black.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for David will be Saturday, July 21, 2018 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Short Funeral Home, 527 N Mulberry St., Mt. Carmel, IL 62863. A Private Graveside Service will be held at a later date.

David’s family wants to give a special thanks to Deaconess Gateway and Linda E. White Hospice House for their kindness and thoughtfulness during his illness.

Patricia Sue Deisher, 76,

Patricia Sue Deisher, 76, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully on Monday, June 25, 2018 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care & Rehab surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 30, 1941 in Wabash County, Illinois the daughter of Austin and Pansy (Adams) Howder. Patricia married Ronald Deisher on February 18, 1960 in Mount Carmel. Together they enjoyed forty-six years of marriage. Ronald preceded her in death on December 9, 2006.

Patricia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed the time she spent with her family. She loved being outdoors, working in her yard and tending to her flowers. Patricia also enjoyed sitting on her front porch and visiting with family and friends. In Patricia’s free time, she also enjoyed to read a good book. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Patricia will be remembered by her children, Sonja (Greg) Schroeder of Keensburg, IL, Ron Deisher, Don (Drema) Deisher, Eldo Deisher, Howard (Carrie) Deisher, Ronda (Matthew) McClure, and Rodney Deisher all of Mount Carmel; sister, Kathy Byrns of Mount Carmel; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; many loved nieces and nephews.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald; siblings, Winnie Green, Robert Howder, Jim Howder, Kenneth Howder, and Karen Russell.

A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2018 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Allan Wright officiating. A Private Family Graveside Service will immediately follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mount Carmel.

Funeral Report-Dale W. Bates

Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2018 at The Community Church of God to honor the life of Dale W. Bates. Pastor Joy Sherman officiated the service leading off with welcoming family and friends and offering prayer. Dale’s son-in-law and granddaughters gave Scripture readings from Psalm 23 and 1 Corinthians 13:4-7a. Elizabeth Bethard shared many fond memories and life lessons taught to her by her father. The congregation joined in singing “10,000 Reasons” and “Home” accompanied by Mark Schelhorn on guitar. Pastor Joy shared a Message and Closing Prayer. A special musical selection of “I Can Only Imagine” was performed by Mark Schelhorn. Prelude and postlude music was provided by Pat Moore on the keyboard. Burial followed at Wabash Presbyterian Cemetery. Dale’s brother Gene lead the procession through the Cemetery with a John Deere Tractor. Full Military Honors were conducted by the VFW and American Legion Honor Guard. Pallbearers were Jim Kohlhouse, Ken Hedrick, Chad Bates, Brent Bates, Billie Ward, Emiljan Stropdni, Les Moore and Gene Bates. Keepes Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Dale Bates.

Troy Wayne Brian

Troy Wayne Brian of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away suddenly Friday, June 15, 2018, in Austin, Texas.

Wayne was born the second child of Troy Olin and Florence Ida (Jones) Brian on July 17, 1938, in Richland County, Illinois. He graduated from Sumner High School in 1955. Wayne served in the US Army from 1961 to 1963.

He married Mary Carol Inyart on October 23, 1965, in Lawrenceville, Illinois.

Wayne successfully started his 28 year career with United Parcel Service in 1965. He began by washing trucks in Vincennes, Indiana and worked his way up to the position of Regional Manager, eventually retiring at the corporate headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. His UPS career led him to work in six different states. During the early 1980’s, he was one of a team of seven that developed the UPS overnight shipping service. Throughout his time with the Army and UPS, he visited 49 states in the USA.

The last fifteen years of his life Wayne enjoyed dividing his time between Illinois and Texas. He also traveled with his family on many memorable vacations all across the United States.

Left to cherish Wayne’s memory is his wife of 52 years, Mary Carol; children, Tracy and Troy; grandchildren Zachary and Miranda Reeves; and his sister, Jean Bell.

Preceding Wayne in death are his parents, Troy Olin and Florence Ida (Jones); a brother Clifford and sister Leona (Snooks) Smith.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, with a visitation prior to the service from 11:00 to 1:00. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Envelopes will be available at Short Funeral Home.

Margaret Ann Schwartz, 62

Margaret Ann Schwartz, 62, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Deaconess Midtown in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by loving family.

Maggie was born October 20, 1955, in Wabash County, Illinois, the middle child of Harold and Norma (Raigner) Wheeler. On March 16, 2010, Maggie married Glen Schwartz.

Maggie worked for Wabash Valley College for several years. She and Glen enjoyed camping and traveling. Their fondest memories are of Disney World and the Florida beaches.

Left to cherish Maggie’s memory are her husband, Glen; children, Crystal Deisher of Princeton, Indiana, Derek Deisher and wife Stacy of Mt. Carmel; Tim Schwartz and wife Liz of Aurora, Illinois; three grandchildren; siblings, Sharon (Dennis) Hale of Mt. Carmel, Janet Sutton of Mt. Carmel, Harold (Jane) Wheeler, Jr. of Carmi, Illinois, and, Tammy Wheeler of Carmi, Illinois.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Raigner; and, nephew, Jacob Wheeler.

Dale W. Bates, 75

Dale W. Bates, 75, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully Friday, June 8, 2018 in DeWitt, Michigan at the residence of his daughter, surrounded by the love of his family. 

  He was born June 27, 1942 in Wabash County Illinois the son of Clyde Bernard and Dorothy Pauline (Stevens) Bates. 

He married Linda Walker at the First Christian Church in Allendale, Illinois on August 10, 1968.  Dale’s passing comes just months short of their 50th Anniversary.   Dale greatly enjoyed his lifelong career as a farmer. 

His love for farming overflowed into the abundant gardens he tended with loving care.  The highlight of each year was a family vacation with his granddaughters.

Dale faithfully served his country in the United States Army.  He was stationed in Germany serving as a Communications Specialist. 

Dale was a member of the 1961 graduating class of Allendale High School and The Community Church of God.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

 Dale will be remembered by his loving wife, Linda; daughter, Elizabeth Bethard and her husband Clay; granddaughters, Addison Dayle, Morgan RaeAnn and Reagan Elizabeth Bethard; brother, Gene Bates and his wife Nicki and sister-in-law, Phyllis Bates; along with many loved nieces and nephews. 

Dale was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Carl and Paul. 

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2018 at The Community Church of God, 1532 College Drive, Mount Carmel, IL with Pastor Joy Sherman officiating.  A Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at Wabash Presbyterian Cemetery in Wabash County, Illinois. Family and friends may gather for a Visitation from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Community Church of God.
