Richard L. “Dick” Tisdale, 77, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away Friday, July 20, 2018 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehab surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on September 28, 1940 in Keensburg, Illinois the son of Elmer L. and Edna (Van Matre) Tisdale.
Dick proudly served his country in the United States Navy. During active duty he was stationed on the USS Orion at Norfolk, Virginia and then transferred to the Naval Reserves as a Commandant, Ninth, in the Great Lakes, Illinois Naval District. As a civilian, Dick dedicated his career as an officer with the Mount Carmel Police Department where he served for twenty-eight years. He then continued working for Mount Carmel Public Utility Company for ten years. During his free time, Dick loved bird watching, especially the hummingbirds. He was an avid die cast car collector and enjoyed following NASCAR racing. Dick could often be found helping with the food ministry, Bridges of Hope. He was a very active member of Heartland Worship Center. He truly loved people whom he always greeted with is infectious smile. Most importantly, Dick had a great love for his family and grandchildren. Dick will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Dick will be remembered by his sons, Rick (Yvonne) Tisdale of West Salem, IL, Tim (Sherry) Stinson of Mount Carmel, IL; daughter Tracy (Ron) Effland of Battlefield, MO; grandchildren, Daniel Tisdale & family, Laura Phillips & family, Michael (Erin) Stinson, Sarah (Kevin) Marchal, Valerie Effland, Reed (Abri) Effland, Brooke Effland, Andy (Debbie) Bailey, Matthew (Anne) McClane, Carrie Beth McClane and Haley Mae McClane; great-grandchildren, Elliot Stinson, Levi Morris, Liam Morris; brother, Robert (Shirley) Tisdale of Winchester, VA;
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; infant sisters, Roberta June and Linda Joe Tisdale.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Heartland Worship Center with Pastor Tony Hodgson officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
Family and friends may gather for a Visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Heartland Worship Center.
