Deputies arrest Gibson County man for fleeing
On March 20, 2023, at 3:58 p.m. Deputy Quinten Might went to 8213 S 1050 West near Johnson, Indiana to attempt to serve a Felony Warrant on Cory G. Henson, DOB 5/16/1984. Upon arriving Deputy Might with the assistance of Deputies Logan Lashbrook and Michael Owens knocked on his door and announced that they were with the Sheriff’s Office. At that point Mr. Henson ran out of the residence and towards a wood line. The deputies pursued Mr. Henson and after a short foot chase Mr. Henson was taken into custody and transported to the Gibson County Jail. Upon arriving at the Jail Mr. Henson was booked in on the outstanding probation violation warrant, and a new charge of Resisting Law Enforcement- Fleeing. He remains in custody at this time.
All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
Change Of Attorneys Causes Delay In Dardeen Sentencing
61 year old John Dardeen will have to wait at least until May to find out his sentence for selling meth. Dardeen was was convicted by a Wabash County Jury last month on a Class 2 felony charge of meth delivery of more than 5 grams. That charge carries a possible prison sentence of 3 to 7 years. He was scheduled to be sentenced Monday afternoon, but that hearing was postponed after Patrick Costa entered his appearance to represent Dardeen replacing court appointed public defender Rhonda Blades.
Appearing via video-conference, Costa told Judge William Hudson that he needed time to review the pre-sentence investigation and confer with state’s attorney Kelli Storckman. A status hearing in the case was scheduled for May 8th and with no date set for the rescheduled sentencing hearing.
Dardeen was escorted back to the Wabash County Jail where he’s been since he was convicted February 8th and his $2,000 cash bond was revoked.
Publication Error Causes Property Tax Sale To Be Postponed
Wabash County Treasurer Angela Broster stated the date for the 2021 payable 2022 tax sale has changed. The tax sale was originally set for Friday, March 31st, 2023, but due to a publication error, the tax sale has been moved to Friday, April 14th, 2023 at 10:00am. Tax sale judgement date will by Wednesday, April 12th, 2023 at 9:00am.
Therefore, current notices that were mailed on Friday, March 3rd can be paid by cashier’s check, money order, or cash until Thursday, April 13th, 2023, the day before the tax sale.
The treasurer’s office is no longer accepting personal checks after March 17th; however, payments may be made by credit card on www.govtechtaxpro.com under Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
If the drop box in front of the courthouse is used, please call the treasurer’s office at 618-262-5262 to verify the correct amount due. The treasurer’s office is also open from 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday to receive payments.
Wabash County Has Lowest Jobless Rate In So. IL; 3rd Lowest In State
Even though there was a slight uptick in the jobs number, Wabash County continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in southern Illinois. The state’s department of employment security reports the jobless rate fell to 3.1% in January in Wabash County compared to 2.7% in December and 4.1% in January of ’22. Not only was Wabash County’s 3.1% rate in January the lowest in southern Illinois, but it was also the third lowest in the entire state.
Dardeen To Be Sentenced This Afternoon
A convicted drug dealer will be sentenced this afternoon in Wabash County Circuit Court. 61 year old John Dardeen was convicted by a Wabash County Jury last month on a Class 2 felony charge of meth delivery of more than 5 grams. That charge carries a possible prison sentence of 3 to 7 years. Following his conviction on February 8th, Dardeen’s $2,000 cash bail was revoked after he testified he was innocent of the meth selling charge because he sold cannabis not meth. Local authorities used Dardeen’s testimony against and obtained a search warrant for his residence in the 300 block of Walnut Street. The search resulted in several items being located that are associated with the manufacture and delivery of methamphetamine, a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun with ammunition, and many other cannabis related items.
