Failure To Register As Sex Offender Lands Mt. Carmel Man In Jail

On 5/12/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested James H Catt, age 62, of Mt. Carmel, for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Officers received information that Catt failed to provide the Mt. Carmel Police Department with his new address upon moving the month prior. Catt was taken into custody at a residence located in the 1100 block of West 3rd Street and transported to the Wabash County Jail, where he was charged and held on a $3000 cash bond.

Mt. Carmel Man Arrested For Failing To Register As Violent Offender Against Youth

On 5/27/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Dale T. Davis, age 24, of Mt. Carmel, for Failure to Register as a Violent Offender Against Youth. Davis recently moved to Mt. Carmel from another jurisdiction and is required to update his address. Davis failed to do so in his allotted time and was subsequently arrested by MCPD at a residence in the 600 block of West 5th Street. Davis was transported to the Wabash County Jail, where he was charged and held pending a bond setting by a judge.

Mt. Carmel Man Jailed On Aggravated Battery Charge

On 5/25/21, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Louis M. Edlund, age 37, of Mt. Carmel, for Aggravated Battery following a dispute at a residence in the 500 block of Chestnut Street. Upon the officer’s arrival, they found evidence to indicate Edlund had battered a disabled male resident of the home. Edlund was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail, where he was charged and held pending a bond setting by a judge.

WGH Losing Two Longtime Employees To Retirement

Two longtime fixtures at Wabash General Hospital are calling it a career. At Monday’s hospital board meeting, it was announced that Steve McGill is retiring after a long career at the local hospital. For many years, McGill served as WGH’s chief financial officer. Also retiring is Dr. John Barbee who practiced for 30 years as an ER physician at Wabash General. A retirement reception for Barbee was held Tuesday.

Ballpark Neighbor Complains To City Council Of Balls Hitting Vehicles And House

A resident near the 4th Street ball park wants the Mt. Carmel City Council to do something about balls being hit into his vehicles and house. Doug Hatchett lives right across the street from the ballpark and he said balls being hit onto his property hasn’t been a problem until this year. He said one ball caused $600 damage to his new pickup truck. Hatchett asked if the netting could be installed adjacent to the top of the fence to keep batted balls from coming his direction. City Commissioner Justin Dulgar, who is also Little League president, said the issue has been explored but it would cost $8,000 to replace the fencing and make it taller. But, commissioner Tom Meeks said the city would find a solution to the problem until Little League finds a permanent fix.

WGH Board Approves Parking Lot Bid At Oak Street Office

The long-awaited parking lot project at Dr. S. B. Jani’s office on Oak Street has gotten final approval by the Wabash General Hospital board of directors. At Monday’s board meeting, the low bid of Kieffer Brothers Construction was accepted for $184,500 with the work to be done in 60 days or less. The project will add 16 additional spaces at the medical office allowing staff to park at the office. Presently, staff have been forced to park at nearby Oakview Heights and walk over because the scarce available parking was reserved for patients. The project has been delayed at various because of concerns expressed by nearby residents. But, after those concerns were alleviated, the city zoning board approved the plans which in turn were also okayed by the city council.

MCHS Alumni Foundation Military Hall Of Fame Dedicated

The MCHS Alumni Foundation dedicated the new military hall of fame during a 30 minute ceremony yesterday afternoon in the high school lobby. One of the speakers was Gary Liddle who is a 1968 MCHS graduate. He said the 13 men killed from Wabash County in the Vietnam War played an important role in his life and others locally… 

Also speaking yesterday was Reverend Allen Wright whose son Brian was killed in the Iraq War in 2005 at the age of 19. Wright said his son embraced the dangers of enlisting in the Illinois National Guard… 

The 200 pound bronze plaque is located in the main lobby of the high school and lists the names of 41 Wabash County military personnel killed in action from World Wars I and II, the Vietnam War, and Iraq War.
