Lady Aces are currently 32-0 this season. Next up for the Lady Aces is Tuesday September 9th they will travel to Country Oaks Golf Club, Montgomery IN for a triangular with Washington and Vincennes Rivet. 

Jr Lady Aces softball win the Carmi Classic Tournament


The Mt Carmel softball girls went 4-0 on the day Saturday, bringing home the Champions title of the Carmi Lady Bullpups Classic Tournament.

The girls started off the day defeating Carmi 7-4 and Olney 12-0 to claim the one seed in their pool. They then defeated Massac County 4-3 in a tough fought bracket game to head to the Championship!! Carmi came back through the bracket for a rematch for the top honors of the tournament. Mt Carmel put up 10 runs over the 7 innings to capture the Championship 10-4 and move to a 12-2 record on the year!!

The girls hit the ball very well all day, only having 8 total strikeouts on the day, while all 10 players each had hits and runs scored! Alivia Toutloff put one out of the park during the Olney game for her first home run of the year! The team batting average for the day was just under .500, scoring 33 runs while only allowing 11.

Pitching was also strong all day, with both Harper Warnken and Brylee Patterson going 2-0 for the tournament. These pitchers had strong defense backing them up with some big catches in the outfield and impressive infield work throughout the day.

The next softball matchup is Tuesday, September 9 as the Jr Lady Aces travel to Fairfield to take on the Colts.

Randall Leads Lady Aces At Olney Tourney

The MCHS Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Olney Saturday for 5 matches. 

Starting in pool they won the first set against Effingham St. Anthony 25-21, but couldn’t keep the lead falling 19-25, 11-15.  St. Anthony won the championship of gold in a 3 way tie by points with Fairfield and Edwards County.  

Back to back after St. Anthony we played Olney JV for the final pool game winning 25-19, 25-15. Maycee Randall with 9 kills and Gabby Schneider with 8 assists. 

This put the Aces in the Silver bracket once again.

Bracket play started right up after pool. We played ALAH first. They took the first set 18-25, but we dominated the second set 25-11, the third set was neck and neck, ALAH squeaked it out for the win 16-14. Maycee Randall let the net with 7 kills and 3 blocks.

After playing 3 matches starting at 9am and ending at 2pm the girls were ready for a break. 

After filling up their tanks we had 2 more matches in silver, the Aces faced a football foe Tolono Unity first. It felt great to send the rockets crashing 25-22, 25-23. They had us beat in size, but our quickness outmatched them. Tensley Dunlap had 6 kills and Mattie Armstrong 7 assists.

The final game of the day was against Mt. Zion. The first set we had Mt. Zion off their serve recieve game hitting our spots, and being aggressive. We won the set big 25-9 with Lyla Keepes getting a run of 5 aces in a row, and Tensley Dunlap putting up 6 kills.

The second set was the flip flop. They served very aggressively and didn’t miss, momentum shifted and the Aces couldn’t get it back losing 12-25, and 4-15 in the third.  Not as an exciting of a finish with Mt. Zion, as the 2001 playoff game where the Aces football team came from behind in the final minute of the state quarterfinal. 

Stats totals for the 5 games combined were Mattie Armstrong 3 aces, 29 assists, 22 digs, 1 kill, Jayla Johnson 3 aces, 8 kills, 26 digs, 2 assist, 3 blocks, Maycee Randall, 4 aces, 29  kills, 17 block, 10 digs, Tenley Davis 6 aces, 48 digs, 7 assists, Lyla Keepes 7 aces, 14 kills, 27 digs, 2 assists, Kyleigh Smith 10 kills, 3 digs, 1 block. Tensley Dunlap 18 kills, 4 digs, 5 blocks, Avery Coston 7 kills, 2 assists, 6 blocks, Gabby Schneider 5 ace, 26 assist, 13 digs.

We did not win the Silver bracket, but winning a set against every team we played showed we could hand right in there with anybody.

Congratulations to Maycee Randall for making the all tournament team. 

The team will travel to Marshall on Thursday for a JV and Varsity game.

3 Aces Cross Country Runners Place In Top 30 At GS

Mt. Carmel participated in the Alan Hopewell meet last night. The Golden Aces had 3 place inside the top 30.

In the Fresh/Soph boys 5K race there were 81 runners. Freshman Zane Swinson was the top runner for the Aces finishing in 22nd place with a time of 19:08.

In the Fresh/Soph girls 5K race (49 runners) it was Soph. Zoie Randall leading the way placing 27th with a time of 24:30.

In the Jr/Sr girls 5K race (59 runners) Dani Fisher was the top finisher for the Lady Aces placing 28th with a time of 24:26.

The Aces did not have anyone run in the Jr/Sr Boys race.

The Golden Aces will run again Tuesday, Sept. 9th at Lawrenceville.

Olney Gets Past Soccer Aces, 5-1

From Coach Ed Berberich:

The soccer Aces hosted the Richland County Tigers Thursday, putting up a good fight but ultimately losing 5-1. The first 20 minutes were scoreless before the Tigers finally put one in the net. They would add 2 more later in the half leading to an 0-3 deficit for the Aces at the break. The Tigers added 2 more goals in the 2nd half while the Aces scored one of their own when Santiago Guanipo hit on a free kick from just outside the goal box for the final 1-5 score. The Aces took 4 shots, all on frame. Michael Reed played in goal and had 12 saves on the night. 

We came out and played quite well especially considering the opposition we were facing, as Olney looks to be a strong team this season. The first 20 minutes in particular, but really the whole 1st half, contained some solid and cohesive play by us. Michael came in and played great in goal in his first ever high school soccer game. We're still working on our chemistry and our team defending principles out in the field, which can lead to giving up some shots. With Olney being as skilled as they are, Michael was under a lot of pressure but he performed very well. We're still working new & injured players into the team and we haven't had many games yet so our conditioning is still one of our biggest issues. Once our legs started to get tired our play fell off a bit and we began to look out of sorts, but the guys fought through it and never gave up on the game. Our schedule is brutal to start the season but that can make us stronger if we keep the right attitude and keep learning. With where we're at as a program, there are no shortcuts but we're beginning to see some things out there that we've been working towards. We're looking for these guys to learn how to become soccer players and to keep a consistent effort regardless of the situation. So far we've had no problems with sustaining our effort and if we keep that up I believe we'll continue to improve individually and as a team.  

The schedule doesn't let up as the Aces host undefeated Massac County at 12 pm on Saturday 9/6.

Jr. Aces win big on 8th grade night

Jr. Aces defeated Eldorado 15-3.


A strong pitching performance from Asher Dunkel and Cade Tillotson set the tone for the Jr. Aces night, allowing only one hit in four innings. Dunkel started the game going two innings allowing one earned run on only one hit, striking out three. Tillotson closed out the game pitching two innings allowing no hits and striking out 5 of 6 batters he faced.


The Jr. Aces bats were hot, collecting 11 hits in the contest. Aran Guanipa, Cade Tillotson, and Asher Dunkel each had two hits. Tate Buss, Brantley Krup, Bryden Tougaw, Kayden Smith, and Bram Gordon also added one hit apiece. The Jr. Aces were also patient at the plate tallying eight walks, led by Lincoln Kocher and Bram Gordon with two each.


Next up the 7-1 Aces travel to Fairfield Tuesday, September 9th at 4:30.

Harper Warnken With 3 Hits As Mt Carmel Jr Lady Aces Beat Flora Lady Pups 4-1 in Conference play

Harper Warnken With 3 Hits As Mt Carmel Jr Lady Aces Beat Flora Lady Pups 4-1 in Conference play.

Harper Warnken collected three hits in four at bats, as Mt Carmel Jr Lady Aces defeated Flora Lady Pups 4-1 on Wednesday. Harper hit a solo home run over left field fence in the first inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the seventh inning.

Harper struck out 13 batters on the day. The starter also allowed four hits and one run over seven innings while walking four. The defense was also spot on during the 7 innings of play.

Mt Carmel Jr Lady Aces opened the scoring in the first after Harper hit a solo home run out of left field.

Mt Carmel Jr Lady Aces added one run in the third. Addison Carmickle singled down the left field line, driving in a run, making the score 2-0.

The Jr Lady Aces added runs in the 6th and 7th inning to secure their victory!

Mt Carmel Jr Lady Aces tallied 12 total hits in the game. Alyvia Toutloff led Mt Carmel Jr Lady Aces with two runs batted in. The catcher went 2-for-4 on the day. Willow Gayer collected two hits for Mt Carmel Jr Lady Aces in three at bats. Other hits were put up by TaeLynn Wade, Aveah Miller, Lexi Sisson, and Olivia Wall with one each.

Mt Carmel Jr Lady Aces will travel to Carmi for a tournament this Saturday and then face Fairfield Lady Colts for their next regular season game on Tuesday.

Lady Aces Volleyball Takes Down Oblong

The Lady Aces hosted Oblong Monday night.  The home team had a good crowd with lots of students out for the girls.  They were able to keep a steady pace staying ahead and taking the match in 2 sets 25-19, 25-18

Stats for the night were Mattie Armstrong 1 ace, 7 assists, 7 digs,  Jayla Johnson 6 digs, 3 kills, 1 assist, Maycee Randall, 5 kills, 1 block kill, 1 dig, 3 assists, Tenley Davis 7 digs, 3 assists, Lyla Keepes 1 ace, 3 kills, 4 digs, 1 block, Kyleigh Smith 2 kills, 1 block. Tensley Dunlap  2 kills, 1 digs. Avery Coston 1 kill, 1 assist, Gabby Schneider 2 ace, 2 assist, 2 digs.

The JV team seemed to have some nerves going with playing at home for the first time. 

Oblong sent over many free balls, but we had a high attacking error rate, and couldn’t handle Oblongs aggressive serving. The aces were able to win the second set, but fell in the third with set scores of 21-25, 25-18, 7-15.

Jr. Aces Win Battle Of Unbeatens

In an undefeated match up, the Mt. Carmel Jr. Aces baseball team handed Robinson their first loss, improving to 6-0 on the season.
A solid pitching performance from Aran Guanipa was a big key in the win. Guanipa gave up three runs on four hits, striking out eight batters.
Brantley Krup and Tate Buss lead the way at the plate for the Jr. Aces, they each went 2 for 3, combining for three RBIs and five runs scored.
In the second game the Jr. High J.V. Aces defeated Robinson 2-1.
Next up the Jr. Aces travel to Flora Wednesday with the start time of 4:30.

Lady Aces Play Well In Fairfield Tourney

The Mt. Carmel Lady Aces traveled to Fairfield Saturday for a 12 team tournament.  They started the day against a top tier Norris City team. The Aces were aggressive and played well. We almost took a set from NC, but fell two in sets 18-25, 23-25. 

After a short break we played North Clay and were able to stay on top, we had good energy and net play, winning in two sets 25-18, 25-15

The Aces entered the silver bracket with their first match against a LIC conference opponent   

Oblong. We had solid play against Oblong with consistent serve receive, and attacking taking the match 25-15, 25-21.

Winning this game took them to the championship of the silver bracket against Cisne. 

The Cisne team had good serving, and serve receive. They were able to beat us the first match 23-25. Cisne had a big run early when we struggled with the pass. The Aces got fired up and wanted the second set, we played clean and took the second 25-13 and the third set 15-12.  This gave the Lady Aces the Silver bracket title. Norris City defeated Carmi and Fairfield for the Gold bracket winners.

The Lady Aces will have their first home game Tuesday night with Freshman starting against Oblong. Come out to see some hard hitting action!

Underclassmen Lead Aces Cross Country Team In Season Opener

Mt. Carmel XC kicked off their season on a high note at the Tom Wickham Memorial Invitational. The girls race Mt. Carmel was led by Jr. Dani Fisher coming in 10th place with a time of 22:48 and Soph. Zoie Randall who came in 12th place with a time of 24:12

In the Boys race, Mt. Carmel was led by a pair of freshmen Zane Swinson and Zeke Meier. Zane placed 10th place with a time of 17:58 and Zeke placed 18th with a time of 19:10.

Next race for Mt. Carmel is Thursday Sept. 4th at Gibson Southern.
