On Tuesday, December 12th, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets 5th/6th grade team hosted the Princeton St. Joe Wildcats. St. Mary’s defeated Princeton St. Joe, 25 – 5. St. Mary’s led at the end of the first quarter 9 – 0; 13 – 2 at halftime; and 17 - 3 at the end of the third quarter. Nora Jones led St. Mary’s in scoring with 8 points. Sarah McCorkle added 7 points, Lily Keepes 4 points, Kali Walker 2 points, Madison Stevens 2 points, and Ava Turner 2 points. Princeton St. Joe was led in scoring by Mallory Watt with 3 points.
The 5th/6th grade team is off until January 5th – 7th, when they travel to Columbia to participate in the Belleville Diocesan Tournament.
Allendale-Jasper Basketball
On Monday, December 11th, the Allendale Yellow Jackets hosted Jasper in a WEAA Conference contest. In the C-game, Allendale won 28-13. The C-team now improves to 6-1 on the season.
In the B-game, Jasper defeated the Yellow Jackets 22-17. Scoring for Allendale was: Kollin Kelsey with 7 points, JD Bowser with 4 points, Trentin Casburn with 2 points, Wyatt Gher with 2 points, and Chase Gher with 2 points. The B-team is now 3-5 on the season.
In the A-game, Jasper also defeated Allendale by the score of 47-9. Scoring for the Yellow Jackets was: Bryce Lane with 6 points and JD Bowser with 3 points. The A-team is now 2-8 on the season.
Next up for the Yellow Jackets: Thursday, December 14th at home against West Salem. The B-game will begin at 6 pm with the A-game to follow. It will also be 8th grade night, as the Yellow Jackets will recognize 9 eighth grade students in basketball and cheerleading right after the conclusion of the B-game.

Lady Rockets Drop WEAA Tourney Game To St. Joe
On Thursday, December 7th, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets played Olney St. Joe in the WEAA Conference Tournament, held at Jasper (Fairfield) Grade School. Olney St. Joe defeated St. Mary’s 29 - 19. St. Mary’s led at the end of the first quarter 9 – 4, but trailed 13 – 12 at halftime; and 22 – 19 at the end of third quarter. Eden Wankel led St. Mary’s in scoring with 6 points. Emma Keepes added 4 points, Mady Young 4 points, Savannah Zimmerman 3 points, and Olivia Stinson 2 points. Olney St. Joe was led in scoring by Fairless with 12 points.
St. Mary’s next game is on January 2nd, when they travel to New Hope to take on the Lady Panthers.
Allendale-Cisne Basketball
On Thursday, December 7th, the Allendale Yellow Jackets traveled to Cisne for WEAA Conference action. In the C-game, Allendale won 24-0. The C-team is now 5-1 on the season.
In the B-game, Cisne won 32-30. Scoring for the Yellow Jackets were: Trentin Casburn with 16 points, Kollin Kelsey with 8 points, JD Bowser with 4 points, and Matthew Jackson with 2 points. The B-team is now 3-4 on the season.
In the A-game, Cisne won 67-13. Scoring for the Yellow Jackets were: JD Bowser with 6 points, Kollin Kelsey with 3 points, Bryce Lane with 2 points, and Owen Gher with 2 points. The A-team is now 2-7 on the season.

Coach Logan Crum's Comments:
A very good match for us as a team. We beat a very good Olney sqaud that is in 2A for wrestling in Illinois. The match started out by us bumping Dalton Farrar to 220 to wrestle a kid he has beat before. That in turn made Blake Kight jump from 220 to heavyweight to wrestle a kid that out weighed him by several pounds. I was really impressed with Blake in the way that he handled that situation and being a TEAM player. The matches at 152 and 160 were the deciding matches last night and I am very proud of the way Chris and Sebastain both wrestled to come away with pins. Up Next we travel to princeton saturday to wrestle all the big 8 teams except Jasper so it will be a good test to see where we are in terms of conference.
Lady Warriors Roll To 9th Win
The Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors picked up their ninth win of the season last night at the Spencer Sports Center. They defeated Lindenwood Belleville campus JV team 104 to 50. Coach Luke Scheidecker had five players in double figures lead by two with double doubles Gabi Baldridge with 18 points and ten rebounds and Ruby Angok with 17 points and ten rebounds. Ashley Moore had 14 points, Mariah McCully had 13 and Brooke James added 12 points. WVC is now 9-1 and 3-0 Great Rivers Athletic Conference going into play this Saturday evening taking on Kaskaskia College. The women will play at 5:30 and the men at 7:30.
SOFTBALL CAMP TO BE HELD AT WVC
Wabash Valley College will host a Softball Camp on Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11, 2018. The camp, for girls ages 7-17, will be held in WVC’s Spencer Sports Center Gym. Hitting and Fielding will be on Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11, from 1:00-3:30 p.m. The Pitching portion will be on Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11, from 3:30-4:15 p.m.
The cost is $35 for one day of Hitting and Fielding, $60 for two days of Hitting and Fielding or for one day of Hitting, Fielding, and Pitching. The two-day camp for Hitting, Fielding, and Pitching is $80.
Participants will need to bring their ball gloves and wear tennis shoes. Please wear sweat pants for sliding drills. Bats are optional.
The concession stand will be open for campers to get drinks and snacks.

Lady Warriors Move Up to 12th In Country
The first NJCAA National Poll is out and the Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors moved up two positions and are now 12th in the country with their 8-1 record. Moberly the team that handed the Lady Warriors their only loss is 11th at 11-0. Gulf Coast State from Florida is #1 at 8-0 followed by Trinity Valley at 12-0 and Shelton State 10-0 Alabama and New Mexico is 4th at 13-0 #5 is Tallahassee with a 9-0 record. Out of the top 15 teams nine still have perfect records while five teams have one loss.
On the men’s side of the NJCAA Poll Vincennes has moved up to 2nd in the country with 12—0 record right behind Northwest Florida State also at 12-0. Indian Hills and Tallahassee are both 10-0 and Salt Lake is 13-0 to round out the top five. Moberly is 12th and John Logan is 19th this week.
The Lady Warriors will play at home tonight Wednesday the 6th against Lindenwood University Belleville campus JV team. Tipoff is set for 5:30.

A very good match for us as a team as we came out and took care of buisness to get the win. Dalton Farrar's match was probably the best of the night as he wrestled well to get the win against a good wrestler. Blake Kight wrestled his best match of the year but just came up a bit short. The night was overshadowed by one of our wrestlers Orin Brohm hurting his shoulder during a JV match last night and is probably done for the year with a torn up shoulder. We travel to Olney tonight which will be a tough match for all our wrestlers as they have one of the better programs around here and they are a class above us in state competition as they are 2A and we are 1A.
SMS Boys Vs. Geff
Monday night the St. Mary’s Rockets traveled to Geff to take on the Eagles. In the c-game matchup the Rockets defeated the Eagles by a score of 12 to 2. Leading the scoring for the Rockets was Reed Stinson with 4 points, Elliott Acree with 2 points, Kasen Dulgar with 2 points, Tobias Fullop with 2 points, and Brady Porter with 2 points. Also receiving playing time for the Rockets was Asher Coston, and Blake Strine.
In the junior varsity matchup the Rockets also defeated the Eagles by a score of 29 to 17. Leading the scoring for the Rockets was Steven Haase with 12 points, Elliott Acree with 9 points, James Martin 4 points, Eric Acree with 2 points, Tobias Fullop with 2 points. Lady Rockets Comeback Comes Up Short
On Monday, December 4th, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets traveled to Jasper (Fairfield) Grade School to take on the New Hope Lady Panthers in the first round of the WEAA Conference Tournament. New Hope defeated St. Mary’s, 33 – 30. St. Mary’s trailed at the end of the first quarter 9 – 0; 17 – 8 at halftime; and 29 – 17 at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Rockets outscored New Hope 13 -4 in the fourth quarter, but just couldn’t pull out the win. Eden Wankel led St. Mary’s in scoring with 10 points. Emma Keepes added 6 points, Savannah Zimmerman 6 points, Olivia Stinson 4 points, and Mady Young 4 points. The Lady Panthers were led in scoring by Emma Frymire with 12 points.
St. Mary’s will play in the 3rd place game of the WEAA Conference Tournament at Jasper Grade School on Thursday, December 7th, at 6:00pm, against the loser of the Jasper and Olney St. Joe game. Savannah Zimmerman also advanced to the finals of the 3 Point Shootout and will shoot on Thursday evening.
Warriors Drop 4th Straight
The Wabash Valley Warriors dropped their fourth game in a row on Sunday at St. Louis. They were part of a eight team St. Louis Community College Shootout at Forest Park. They lost to Moberly Area College 101 to 88. The game was close and tied at 18 all when the Greyhounds would go on a run a build a nine point advantage with 7:58 left in the half 32 to 23. Half time found Moberly up four 46 to 42. The Warriors would pull to within one at 82 to 81 with five minutes to play but was outscored in the final five minutes 25 to nine. WVC is now 4-5 while Moberly improves to 10-1. Moberly was ranked 8th in the nation in the NJCAA preseason poll.
In another game in the Shootout it was Three Rivers defeating Southwestern Illinois by the score of 106 to 90. Brandon Fitzjerrells had 16 points in the game and was three of 10 from behind the arc---a different game than the night before when he helped guide SWIC over WVC and hitting the winning basket at the buzzer

SWIC Beats WVC On Half Court Buzzer Beater
The Wabash Valley basketball teams played host Saturday night to Southwestern Illinois College.
In the men’s game it came down to the final five seconds to come up with a winner. With the game tied Brandon Fitzjerrells ended the game on a half court shot at the buzzer to give SWIC the win 99 to 96. SWIC would lead most of the game and that came from three point shooting and hitting seven of eight free throws. The Warriors were down 12 at half time 49 to 37 and trailed most of the second half. In the last five minutes of the game the Warriors got hot and behind the aggressive play of Tyressee Williford and the three points shooting of Jalen Newsome the Warriors would pull to within one on a basket by Anthony Christian 94 to 93. Then Javonte Hill an All American last year would step to the line and calmly hit two free throws for a three point lead. With 5.2 seconds left to play Newsome would hit a three pointer to tie the game. After a couple of time outs SWIC came and got the ball in the hands of Fritzjerrells for his shot from mid court. He was the top scorer with 24 points and 7 of 12 from behind the arc. Javonte Perkins had 23 and Hill had 22. WVC had six players in double figures with Williford at 20 points, Marcus Garret had 14, and three players had 12 Austin Trice and 10 rebounds and off the bench Cam Gross and Jalen Newsom. Josh Thomas would add 11 points.
SWIC is now 7-1 and 3-1 in the GRAC while WVC falls to 4-4 and 1-2 in conference play. The Warriors are in St. Louis Sunday afternoon to take on a very good Moberly Greyhound team coached by former WVC head coach Pat Smith.
The Lady Warriors picked up win number eight downing SEIC 94 to 57. It was over early as WVC jumped out to a 30 to 12 advantage after the first quarter. Coach Luke Scheidecker played 10 players and they all scored. Two players off the bench would end up being leading scorers. Alexis Thomas had 13 points and Tramauryia Hunter had had 12. Two starters were in double figures Ashley Moore had 12 points and McKenzy Telfair had 10 points. The Lady Warriors are now 8-1 and 3-1 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference while SWIC falls to 2-4 and 1-1 in the GRAC.
Aces Wrestlers Win Lawrence County Tournament
The Aces wrestling team today won the Lawrence County tourney with a total team score of 197. Olney was second with a total of 157.
Mt. Carmel had 5 individual champions: Dayton Hall at 106, Cade Keepes at 113, Chevvy Wood at 120, Clay Critchfield at 132, and Ryan Johnson at 182. Other places were 2nd place Dalton Farrar at 195, Greg Pierson 2nd at 106, Braydon Berberich 2nd at 138, Chris Shelby 4th at 152.

In the A-game, St. Joe defeated the Yellow Jackets 36-7. Scoring for Allendale were: JD Bowser with 3 points, Kollin Kelsey with 2 points, and Carlos Monroy with 2 points. The A-team is now 2-6 on the season.

WVC Splits With Lake Land
Wabash Valley basketball teams traveled to Mattoon Illinois Wednesday night and came away with a split with Lake Land College.
The Lady Warriors won 104 to 61 behind balanced scoring for Luke Scheidecker squad. Alexis Thomas had 16 points, Mariah McCully added 14 followed by DeAsia Outlaw with 13 and Ashley Moore had 12. Game was close in the first quarter before the Lady Warriors took the lead at the end of the quarter 24 to 19. They built on that lead and at half time were up 47 to 32. Start of the 3rd quarter they would go on a 20 to 9 run to put the game out of reach. WVC is now 7-1 and 2-0 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference while Lake Land falls to 5-3 and 1-2.
In the men’s game it was close all the way to the final buzzer. There was no more than four or five point difference during the game and most of the 40 minutes was played with two or three point difference. Half time Lake Land was up by one 49 to 48 as Tra Landers would hit one of two free throws right before the half. Second half the Lakers would jump out to a 57 to 51 advantage but WVC would come back and take the lead on an Antonio Givens rebound and basket. The score was tied 70 all with eight minutes to go and from there to the end of the game only one or two point separated the two teams. The Warriors would play the last five minutes without their leading scorer Austin Trice who was injured and finished the game with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Josh Thomas would hit a baseline basket to pull WVC to within one 92 to 91 and had a chance at the end of the game to win but the shot did not fall. LLC is now 7-2 and 2-0 while the Warriors are now 3-4 and 02 in the GRAC.
They play at home Saturday against Southwestern Illinois with the women playing at 5:30 and the men will tip off at 7:30

A good win for us as a team but they only had 5 wrestlers. Was a pretty quick night but there are still a lot things we can improve on here early in the season to make ourselves better all around wrestlers. We now turn our attention to the Lawrence County Tourney which is Saturday in Lawrenceville. A tournament we should fair well in as both individuals and as a team.
