Jo Karen (Thompson) Loeffler, 85

Jo Karen (Thompson) Loeffler, 85, of Allendale, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Oakview Heights.

She was born on Tuesday February 6, 1940, in Oakwood, IL, to Dudley and Clara (Rouse) Thompson. She married Keith Loeffler on Friday June 26, 1959, at the Allendale Methodist Church. Keith preceded her in death on December 18, 1998.

Jo Karen was a great supporter of everything around Allendale. She was an Allendale Ruritanette for many years. She was a very active member of Evangelical United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed learning from her Christian Comrade Sunday School Class. She also loved getting together with her birthday girls. She was a 60-year member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Surviving are Jo Karen’s four children Tama Grounds and her husband Tim of Allendale, Bryan and his wife Michele of Allendale, Lindsay Rutherford and her husband Richard of Evansville, IN, and Rodney and his wife Lynette of Allendale. Also surviving are eight grandchildren Kelsey (Trey) Beckerman, Madisyn Grounds, Caleb Brown, Maggie (Ethan) Schutter, Cody Brown, Becca (Steven) Lawson, Alex Loeffler, and Allie Rutherford; seven great grandchildren Oaklee, Adeline, Emmett, Elliana, Elliott, Norah, and Greyson. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Mildred Thompson and Barbara McCleskey and one brother-in-law, Jerry Potts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Loren and Kenneth Thompson, Edith Potts, and Sarah Evelyn Williams and husband Frosty.

Visitation will be held Friday July 18 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at Evangelical United Methodist Church in Mount Carmel, IL. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm at the church, 2010 N Cherry St, Mt. Carmel IL.

Burial location will follow the service in Allendale Cemetery in Allendale, Illinois

Memorial contributions can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association or the Allendale School Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Nathelea Garrett, 74

Nathelea Garrett, 74, of Petersburg, IN, formerly of Mount Carmel, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 8, 1951 in Mount Carmel, the daughter of Bobby Gene and Lillian “Maxine” (Hufford) Adams. She married Dennis Knox and together they enjoyed sixteen years of marriage before his passing in on July 24, 1992.

Nathelea will be lovingly remembered by her family, whom she cherished above all else. A devoted Christian, she found joy and strength in her faith, and she loved attending Church and praising the Lord. She had a passion for simple pleasures; especially going on outings to yard sales and Goodwill, always on the lookout for hidden treasures. Nathelea also enjoyed the quiet comfort of reading and found joy in the little moments of life. Nathelea had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved dog, Lucky, who held a special place in her heart. In her younger years, she found great joy in horseback riding.

A dedicated and compassionate caregiver, Nathelea spent many years working at a nursing home as a cook. She was happiest when she was at home caring for her family. Her kindness, and generous spirit touched the lives of many. Nathelea will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Nathelea will be remembered by her daughters, Helen Haycraft and husband, Larry, Jeanie (Pat Smith) McWilliams, and Brenda Lofton and husband, Rick; bonus daughter, Karen Knox; grandchildren, Casey (Joey) O’Brien, Matt (Samantha) Haycraft, Roy (Molly) Haycraft, Samuel Haycraft, Becky Haycraft, Amber (David) Dishman, Holly Lofton, Tessa White, Dara Dill, Sara Neufelder, Randy Lofton, David Cullivan, Ryan Eckiss, Gavin Eckiss, and Christina Eckiss; twenty great grandchildren; brothers, Daniel Adams, Randy Adams, Billy (Kathy) Adams, and Mikey Adams; sisters, Cindy (Earl) Weekley, Helen (Dale) Gillihan, Jane (Tony) Delgado, Jean (Eloy) Wood, Joan (Bob) Tarlton, and Hattie (Kenny) Speers; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Tim Lee Seibert 62

Tim Lee Seibert 62, of St. Simons Island, GA formerly of Mt. Carmel, IL peacefully passed away on June 19, 2025, surrounded by his family at his side.

Tim was born February 4, 1962, in Mt. Carmel, Il the son of Ted and Margaret (Wellerman) Seibert.

Tim was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and was in the US Navy, serving in Desert Strom. He worked at Belk’s and was a department manager. Tim’s hobby and passion was flowers, which he grew a large variety of kinds and vibrant colors year around.

Those left to cherish his memory include his partner and caregiver Troy Gentry of St, Simons Island, GA, 2 daughters Lindsey and Alicia Seibert of Jacksonville, FL, mother Margaret Seibert (Dave) Odom of Mt. Carmel, IL, 2 brothers Michael J. (Becky) Seibert, Jason B. Seibert both of Mt. Carmel, Il, grandson Drayke Washington, and 2 special aunts Barbara (Ron) Franzen, and Joeann Dardeen, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Ted Seibert and brother Chris Seibert.

Funeral services for Timothy will be held Monday July 14, 2025, at 10am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 125 W 5th St., Mt. Carmel, IL. Burial will follow in St, Mary Cemetery, with full Military Rites

Jane Hocking, 91

Jane Hocking, age 91, passed away July 6, 2025 with her loving family by her side.

She was born July 3, 1934 in Bridgeport, Illinois to John Arthur and Alberta Anne (Griffith) Esch. She married Fred L. Hocking on July 25, 1981 in Carmi, Illinois.

Jane previously worked at First National Bank and Consumers Gas Company in Carmi, Illinois. She was a good steward of the land and loved taking care of the farm.

Jane lived an active Christian life, sharing her faith in Jesus with everyone she encountered her entire life. She was a faithful member of Keensburg Christian Church serving in various ministries including years of teaching, praying.

She supported many ministries locally, regionally, and globally. For over 35 faithful years, Jane was a part of her Tuesday afternoon prayer group which consisted of Phyllis Shaw, Joyce Smith, Jeannie Beckerman, Melinda Brunson and the late Wanda Gibbons.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet (Darren Hays) Williams of Carmi, Illinois, daughter, Dana (Dennis) Hampton of Salem, Illinois and a son, Jerry (Ellen) Hocking of Browns, Illinois, grandchildren; Jeremy (Alyssa) Hocking, Amanda Hampton, Amy (Chris) Evans, Rebecca (Matt) Martorello, Jesse (Laura) Hocking, Justin (Amanda) Williams, 17 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, June Esch and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred L. Hocking; son, John Charles Thomas, brothers; Jerry L. Esch and John Robert Esch; sister-in-law, Judy Esch.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 4-8 p.m. at Keensburg Christian Church.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Keensburg Christian Church, with burial at Antioch Cemetery. There will be visitation from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.

Tony Lee Tarlton, 61

Tony Lee Tarlton, 61, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2025, at home. He was born on August 2, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Johnny Albert and Sandra May (Brishke) Tarlton.

Tony worked as a Boilermaker and loved riding his Harley Davidson in his free time. He enjoyed being at home, working on cars, and hanging out with friends in his garage, or one of theirs. He kept his garage spotless and took pride in everything he did.

Tony lived life his own way and made the most of every day. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Tony leaves behind his daughter, Jennifer (Ron Keys) Tarlton; grandsons, Dylan, Jagger, Evan and Trevor Keneipp; several great grandchildren; sister, Sandy (Terry) Johnson; brother, Johnny Tarlton; sister-in-law, Benita Tarlton; several nieces and nephews.

Robert M. Hinderliter, 90

Robert M. Hinderliter, 90, of Mt. Carmel, passed away peacefully at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation on July 2, 2025.

He was born on September 16, 1934 in Wabash County, Illinois to George Marshall and Evadna (Beal) Hinderliter. He married Iris Marie Utley on December 31, 1957 in Harrisburg, Illinois.

Robert retired from Potter & Brumfield after 40 + years and he also enjoyed farming and taking care of the land. Every Friday night you would find him and Iris at Haub’s Steakhouse promptly at 4:00 p.m. enjoying their dinner.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey T. (Kimra) Hinderliter

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Iris, and siblings; Richard Hinderliter, Carol Pixley, and Fleda Wright.

Victor Eugene Schoenheit, 46, of Fullerton, California, passed away on June 19, 2025 in California. He was born on September 10, 1978 in Fairfield, Illinois, the son of Reggie and Donna Schoenheit.

Victor shared a special bond with his father, spending countless hours hunting and fishing together. In recent years, they found joy in reminiscing about their many outdoor adventures. A passionate music lover, Victor began playing guitar at a young age. His love for music grew into a lifelong pursuit, leading him to perform across Southern California with his band, The Heartwreckers. He especially enjoyed singing and playing alongside his bandmates, pouring his heart into every performance.Victor was also a devoted Chicago Cubs fan and a proud dog dad to his beloved fur baby, Hester, who brought him endless joy and companionship. Victor will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His spirit, talent, and love will live on in the memories he leaves behind.

Pearl Lavona (Shutz) Grimes

Pearl Lavona (Shutz) Grimes, 89, of Des Plaines, IL, formerly of Mt. Carmel, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025 with her loving family by her side.

She was born on February 11, 1936, in Vanderburgh Co., Indiana to Estle and Alma (Aldrich) Shutz. She married Floyd Dale Hargrave and after his passing in 1967 she married James “Jim” Leon Grimes, Sr. in Mt. Carmel, IL in 1971.

Pearl was a very devout Christian woman who loved her family, kids, and grandkids. She loved to babysit and take care of children. She was a homemaker and was a member of Faith Holiness Church in Fairfield, Illinois.

Surviving are her three children; Floyd Dale Hargrave, Jr. of McLeansboro, Illinois, Alex (Eric) Schmidt of Noble, Illinois, and James “Jim” L. (Lindsey) Grimes, Jr. of Mt. Prospect, Illinois; Twin half-siblings; Sherry Trefftzs and Jerry Shutz; grandkids; Misty Hargrave, Amanda Schluessler (Brent), F. Dale Hargrave, III, Andrew Hargrave, Jake Swift (Addie), Joe Swift, Hunter Kiefer, Jackson and Brooklyn Grimes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Floyd Dale Hargrave and James “Jim” Leon Grimes, Sr.; still born daughter, Doris Jane and daughter in law, Penny Hargrave; granddaughter, Stacey Hargrave and great-grandson, Rory Wayne Newman; siblings, Nadine, Eugene, Bonnie, Emery, Joyce and Ruby.

Agnes L. Hockgeiger, 97, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 12, 1928 in Mount Carmel, the daughter of Leo P. and Edith C. (Tennis) Keepes. She married Richard K. “Dick” Hockgeiger on November 4, 1950 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church and together they enjoyed sixty-eight years of marriage centered on their faith and family, until his passing on February 19, 2019.

Agnes will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, cherished mother, proud grandmother, beloved sister, and dear friend. She had a sweet and gentle spirit, and the love for her family was at the center of her life. She took great pride in her family and treasured every moment spent with them. An artistic and creative soul, Agnes enjoyed crocheting and crafting ceramics, often making thoughtful gifts for those she held dear. She found peace and joy in the outdoors, especially in tending to her flowers, which she nurtured with care. A proud St. Louis Cardinals fan, she loved following baseball and sharing spirited conversations about the game with her loved ones. Agnes shared a special bond with her parrot, Dusty, who is over thirty years old. Agnes was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Her kindness and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Beverly K. Rayborn, 67

Beverly K. Rayborn, 67, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at home surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on November 16, 1957 in Carmi, IL, the daughter of Charles Wesley and Charlene (Rush) James. Beverly married Benton Allen Rayborn and together they have enjoyed forty years of marriage.

Beverly will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother. Her creativity and resourcefulness knew no bounds—she had a remarkable talent for turning the simplest materials into something beautiful and useful. One of her greatest joys was building a playhouse for her grandchildren, a testament to her love and creativity.

Beverly had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and embraced an active lifestyle. Whether she was camping, enjoying a game of golf, playing a spirited game of pickleball, or simply enjoying nature, she lived life to the fullest. Her energy, warmth, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Beverly will be remembered by her husband, Benton Rayborn; daughter, Lindsay Haynes and husband, Chris; seven grandchildren, John Robinson, Benton Robinson, Chase Travous, Bella Haynes, Kenzie Haynes, Cassie Rayborn and Iris Rayborn; brother, Donnie (Nancy) James; sisters, Kathy Holloman, Cerissa Waddington, and Charlotte (Bill) McGarrh; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sharon Kay Molstad, 87

Sharon Kay Molstad, 87, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025, at Wabash General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 9, 1938, in Hammond, Indiana, the daughter of Joseph and Geneva (Schrodt) Bell. She married Donald Eugene Molstad Sr. on March 23, 1957, and together they enjoyed forty-five years of marriage, until his passing on May 27, 2002.

Sharon dedicated her life to being the best wife, mother and grandmother she could be. She was an avid reader who always enjoyed a good book. Her whole life, she enjoyed hopping in the car and taking a ride. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, and playing card games. She often kept her mind and hands busy working crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Sharon’s family was her pride and joy. She was a great shoulder for her children to lean on and turn to for support. Sharon never hesitated to be there for her family and helped them through many tough times. Her love and presence will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Sharon leaves behind two sons, Donald Molstad Jr. and wife, Karen, Jeffery Molstad and wife, Donna; three daughters, Tammie Riggs and husband, Edward, Lori Groah, Lisa Miller and husband, Gregg; grandchildren, Adam Groah, Matthew (Megan) Groah, Paul Groah, Steven (Stephanie) Groah, Jessica (Todd) Marlo, Donald Molstad III, Michael (Chloe) Molstad, Joseph (Paula) Molstad, Jacob (Megan) Molstad, Matthew Miller, Ellen Miller, Sara Miller, Jodi Miller; fifteen great grandchildren.

Janice Rae (Seibert) Whittenberg

Yorktown, Virginia – Janice Rae (Seibert) Whittenberg of Yorktown, Virginia passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025. Janice was born on January 26, 1947 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois to Clifton and Raydell (Goldsmith) Seibert.  She grew up in Mt. Carmel, graduating from Mt. Carmel High School in 1965 as student body president. Janice went on to earn a master’s degree from Southern Illinois University, where she was also president of the Sigma Kappa sorority. She met her husband, Stephen Whittenberg, at SIU, and they married on December 21, 1969, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Carmel.

Over the years, Janice and Stephen lived in many places due to military service, including Oklahoma, Texas, Germany, Illinois, West Virginia, Kansas, Rhode Island, and Virginia. Janice enjoyed a 45-year teaching career, retiring from Yorktown Elementary in 2018, and taught in various locations in the U.S. and abroad. After retiring, Janice devoted her time to family and friends and was active in the Alpha Pi chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, volunteering with various organizations.

Janice is survived by her husband Stephen Whittenberg of Yorktown, Virginia; daughter Jennifer Armstrong (Brian) of Bristow, VA; son Matthew (Mayara) of Glen Burnie, MD; and five grandchildren, Stephen, Annabelle, Beatrice, Caroline Armstrong and Atlas Whittenberg.  Janice was blessed by this wonderful family and cherished every blessing granted to her with a thankful heart.

Janice was a kind and patient teacher, deeply devoted to her students and passionate about helping them discover the joy of reading. She had a genuine interest in everyone she met—never a stranger, always eager to hear their story. Janice lived a life of selfless service, offering her time and care to family, friends, and her community. In every way, Janice embodied what it means to truly love and care for others.

A memorial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

Marinell Trusty, 85, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025, at The Villas of Hollybrook. She was born on June 28, 1939, in Altamont, Illinois, the daughter of Curtis Carl and Mary (Monjar) Barbee.

Marinell was employed at Snap-On-Tool for twenty-one years. She enjoyed traveling and taking in new sights. Marinell loved shopping trips and eating out at different restaurants. She was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ. She dearly loved her family and her presence will be greatly missed.

Marinell leaves behind her son, Russell Trusty Jr. and wife Dawn; daughter, Toni Loudermilk and husband Ed; four grandchildren, David Blanchette, Amber Blanchette, Jessie Cunningham, Christina Dewitt; eleven great grandchildren; many loved nieces and nephews.

Marinell was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Bonnie Potter and Bernice Kamm; longtime companion, Duane Deisher.

In keeping with Marinell’s wishes, cremation will take place and no formal services will take place.

Curtis Dudley, 65

Curtis W. Dudley, 65, of Mt. Carmel, peacefully passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation for Curt will be held Friday, June 20, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 20, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Burial will follow in Adams Corner Cemetery.

Curtis was born July 13, 1959, in Wabash County, Illinois to Roy and June Henderson Dudley. He married Alison L. Hawf in Henderson, KY on May 9, 2003.

When he was fourteen years old a man named Lou Watkins took Curt under his wing and taught him all about the sound system business. At age seventeen, Curt bought the business from Mr. Watkins and travelled throughout the country, setting up sound systems mostly at state fairs. Later in his life he became a nationally certified electrician. He travelled working outages all over the country. Curt loved music in all forms but especially loved listening to his beloved wife, Alison, playing the piano. He loved his family, his children. He had a very special bond with his great granddaughter, Desiree; they brought an incredible amount of joy to each other. He liked being outdoors, having bonfires and spending time with his dogs. But his greatest joy was the numerous trips he and Alison took to Mexico together and with family and friends.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Alison; children, Chantel Welker of Mt. Carmel, William Gallucci of Long Valley, New Jersey; special sister-in-law Jama Hawf; siblings Tonia Dudley of Baytown, Texas, Julie (Paula) Dudley of Cleveland, Texas, Tamara (Kenny) Carnegie of Dayton, Texas, Michele (Sterling) Garver of Shreve, OH; those who called him “Popeye”, Breyana Cansino, Hunter Gallucci, Jace Gallucci and great granddaughter Desiree Marroquin; and several nieces and nephews and many special cousins.

Jacqueline Sue “Jackie” Wheeler Williams Brines, age 89

Jacqueline Sue “Jackie” Wheeler Williams Brines, age 89, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

She was born on Dec. 14, 1935, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, to Ray “Jack” Leonidas and Lucille Mary (Crum) Wheeler. Jackie was raised by her aunt and uncle, Roberta and Ab Williams.

Jackie was a 1953 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School.

She married Donald Lee Brines on June 1, 1957, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and he passed away on Jan. 11, 2017.

Jackie owned and operated a dance studio in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, for several years and worked as a secretary for the Wabash County Health Department. After Jackie married, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Auburn, Indiana.

Jackie and Don enjoyed Notre Dame athletics, especially football and both men's and women's basketball. Jackie was a lifelong Elvis fan, loved traveling out West, and cherished spending time with her family, especially her beloved granddaughter, Leah.

Jackie and Don were honored to both be inducted into the Mt. Carmel High School Alumni Foundation.

She was extremely proud of recently completing courses in Bible Studies through Hillsdale College with her good friend Bruce Hamilton.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Gary Boyd, of Auburn, Indiana; granddaughter, Leah Ziebell, of Wood River, Illinois; sister, Doris Diane Liddle, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; nephew, Gary Stoltz, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; brothers-in-law, Ed Wilson, of Washington, Missouri, and Mark and Toni Brines, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; sister-in-law, Shirley and Shannon Garrett, of Evansville, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; aunt and uncle; husband; sister, Janet Kay Wilson; and a brother-in-law, Gary Wayne Liddle.

Visitation at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, Indiana will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, IL 62863, with visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Betty Ruth Ankenbrandt, 96

Betty Ruth Ankenbrandt, 96, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Villas of Holly Brook surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 22, 1928, in Owensville, Indiana, the daughter of Lewis and Lula (Wilson) Williams. Betty married Farroll Ankenbrandt on October 20, 1950, and together they enjoyed forty-one years of marriage until his passing on January 20, 1992.

Betty will be lovingly remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was deeply passionate about nurturing young minds and dedicated twenty-nine years to teaching in Allendale for nine years and Mount Carmel for twenty years. Above all, Betty was proud of her boys and treasured time with her family. She was an avid reader who cherished the quiet moments spent with a good book. Betty was a faithful member of First General Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher and was actively involved in the Women’s Ministry. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Betty will be remembered by her three sons, Mark Ankenbrandt and wife, Jan of Mount Carmel, Richard Ankenbrandt and wife, Diana of Huntley, IL, Paul Ankenbrandt and wife, Candy of Mount Carmel; six grandchildren, Janaya Michele (Paul David) Scaletta, Aaron Owen Ankenbrandt, Ryan Richard (Courtney) Ankenbrandt, Matthew Michael Ankenbrandt, Shawn Carter (Aubree) Ankenbrandt, and Keri Sue (Logan) Brinegar; three great grandchildren, Holly Marie, Valerie Ruth, and Vivian Michele Scaletta; brother in law, Vernon Deutsch; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Judy A. (White) Nettleton, 83

Judy A. (White) Nettleton, 83, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Haven of Bridgeport Nursing Home in Bridgeport, Illinois surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on April 2, 1942 in Princeton, Indiana, the daughter of Edgar and Betty (Cash) White.  She married Paul Nettleton on June 15, 1961 at her grandmother’s house in Mount Carmel and he preceded her in death on August 5, 2005.

Judy will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She was most proud of her family, and her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, bringing great joy to her life.  In her free time, Judy enjoyed relaxing while watching western shows and her favorite game shows.  She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Judy will be remembered by her two sons, Dale Nettleton and wife, Debra, Scotty Nettleton and wife, Jennifer; daughter, Paula Jackson and husband, Ralph; eight grandchildren, Sean (Sarah) Nettleton, Dalton Nettleton, Dakota Nettleton, and Danielle (Jordan) Brand, Brianna Jackson, Colton Jackson, Katie Jackson, and Matthew Jackson; great grandchildren, Maren, Lincoln, Oliver and Porter Nettleton; brother, Roger (Vicki) White; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Carlion M. Snyder, 84

Carlion M. Snyder, age 84, of Allendale, Illinois, passed away June 2, 2025 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She was born December 20, 1940 in Bridgeport, Illinois, the daughter of John Paul Doss and Elsie Marie Brinkman. She married James S. Snyder April 2, 1966 and he preceded her in death on April 4, 2017.

Carlion worked for the shoe factory and Vincennes University. She sold Avon for many years. Carlion was a member of the Emmanuel Tabernacle Church in St. Francisville, Illinois. Carlion enjoyed quilting, painting, cooking, baking, and making homemade jellies.

Preceding Carlion were her parents; her husband; two brothers, Charlie Doss and Paul Doss.

Survivors include: children, Dennis Milligan of Allendale, Duewayne (Beth) Snyder of Bridgeport, James (Debbie) Snyder of Princeton; step-children, Debbie Clark and Cindy Bateman; cousins, Margaret Ellen, Janel Polito, and Lori Herzig; eight grandchildren, Kevin Milligan, Tosh (Eilene) Milligan, Duewayne Snyder, Jr., Daniel Snyder, Jacob Snyder, Diana Duigan, Gunnar Snyder, Gaige Snyder; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob Milligan, Logan Milligan, Katelyn Milligan, Clara Milligan, Daniel Snyder, Jr., Skyla Snyder, Evin Griffin.

Norma Marie Sisson, 91

Norma Marie Sisson, 91, of Evansville, Indiana, formerly of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh with her loving family by her side.

Funeral services for Norma will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Norma was born on August 28, 1933, in Princeton, Indiana, the daughter of Arnett Archibald and Esther (Ransford) Woods. She married Leroy Sisson on December 23, 1950, in Princeton, Indiana and together they had seven children.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Barbara J. (Mike) Gatton of Breese, Illinois, Cheryl Lynn Wilson of Mt. Carmel, Leanna (Joseph E.) Hunter of Newburg, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Melissa Engle, Lori Carty-Sherbert, Angela King, James Carty, Shane Hunter, Levi Sisson, Lexis Beard, Tanner Sisson; fifteen great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; siblings, Donna Evans of Young Harris, Georgia, Linda Rushing of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Gilbert Woods of Mt. Vernon, Indiana.

Norma always said what made her happiest in life was raising her children. She loved family gatherings on the White River that included cookouts and frying fish. She enjoyed her “girls’ trip” to the beach. She enjoyed bowling, dancing and gardening. She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the VFW, the Eagles and the Moose.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leroy; four sons, Gary Lee Sisson, Michael Wayne Sisson, William Joseph Sisson and Mark Richard Sisson; brothers Doyle Woods, Dave Woods, Ronald Woods; sisters, Mary Whitehead, Shirley Woods, Virginia Knight; and loving companion, Tom Wilkinson.

John O. “Joe” Gray, Sr., 89

John O. “Joe” Gray, Sr., 89, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 15, 1935, in Taylor Mines, Kentucky, the son of George and Clorine (Jones) Gray. He married Helen L. White on January 17, 1953 in Whiting, Indiana, and they enjoyed seventy-two years of marriage.

Joe will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family above all else. Joe understood the value of hard work from an early age. At just 15 years old, he began working in the steel mills—a strong testament to his determination and work ethic. In his younger years, he also raced motorcycles professionally for Harley-Davidson, a passion he pursued until an accident in 1960 brought his racing career to an end.

Joe had a lifelong love for horses and spent many years announcing horse shows across Illinois and Indiana. He was a proud and active member of the Mount Carmel Saddle Club, where he found great joy in being part of the equestrian community.

Joe’s spiritual faith was a guiding force in his life. A baptized Christian, he found great comfort in reading the Bible and often shared that the most important message Jesus gave was to love one another. He found joy in the simple things—planting sunflower seeds and watching them bloom, caring for his vehicles with pride, and spending time with his beloved dog, Chi-Chi. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

Joe leaves behind his beloved wife, Helen; son, Jody Gray and wife, Cheryl of Bellmont; daughter, Jennifer Gray of Evansville; grandchildren, Jacqi (Matt) Garnett, Jason Gray, Jessica Gray; great-grandchildren, Ella Scarber, William Scarber and Waylon Garnett; great-great grandchild, Elias Moten; sister, Linda (Ed) Vaverick; and several nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Maurice, Chester and Ralph Gray; one sister, Sue York.
