Donald Paul “Donnie” Davis, 81

Donald Paul “Donnie” Davis, 81, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at home. He was born on December 24, 1943, in Gibson County, Indiana, the son of Conrad W. and Irene (Snow) Davis. He married Bonnie M. Birkla on July 10, 1974, in Princeton Indiana and they enjoyed forty-eight years of marriage until her passing on August 20, 2022.

Donnie was employed at Mt. Carmel Public Utility Company from which he retired. He also has worked as a truck driver, which fueled his enthusiasm for building models of semi-trucks. Donnie was a talented mechanic and enjoyed working on cars. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and working in the flower beds. Donnie was a St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and also enjoyed following the Chicago Bears Football. He loved his family dearly and was proud that his grandchildren called him “Poppy”. Donnie was a member of Parkview Christian Church, and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Donnie leaves behind three sons, Chad Davis and wife Jennifer, Jimmy Bailey and wife Kathryn, Don Spore and wife Kelly; one daughter, Mary Taylor; grandchildren, Kimberly Wilson, Kara Wilson, Richie (Tanya) Bobbitt, Chris (Angelica) Bobbitt, Sam Wampler, Emily Wampler, Zayn Davis, Tenley Davis; sister, Peggy (John) Whetstone; several loved nieces and nephews.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Bonnie; brothers, Jack and Eddie Davis.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.

Graveside Services will be 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Allendale Cemetery with pastor Mark Richison officiating. Following the service, Donnie and his beloved wife will be laid to rest together.

Gunner Matthew Hyatt, 6

Gunner Matthew Hyatt, 6, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025. He was born on May 21, 2019 in Evansville, Indiana, the son of Steven and Kayla (Engel) Hyatt. Gunner lovingly earned the nickname “Gunny Bunny” by his family.

Gunner was a joyful and fun-spirited little boy whose laughter brightened every room and whose heart was full of adventure. He was the happiest outdoors-whether he was playing baseball, fishing by the water or exploring the woods hunting. He shared a special bond with his daddy, especially when they were working side by side in the garage, and he loved playing Fortnite with his mommy, their time together was filled with fun and giggles. Gunner looked up to his big brother and sister and loved nothing more than playing and laughing with them. He had a huge love for monster trucks and never missed a chance to go mud riding with his family. Gunner just completed kindergarten at Mount Carmel Elementary School. Gunner lived life with a fearless spirit, a playful heart, and a smile that will never be forgotten.

Rose Mary Allen, 81

Rose Mary Allen, 81, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 27, 1943, in Albion, Illinois, the daughter of Ray and Lula (Bassett) Wood. She married Harold Gene Allen on November 27, 1961, and they enjoyed fifty-nine years of marriage until his passing on March 10, 2021.

Rose Mary was a Certified Nursing Assistant who dedicated her life to caring for others. For over ten years, she worked at Wabash General Hospital in obstetrics helping bring new babies into the world. Rose Mary went to work at Oakview Nursing Home, caring for the elderly, which became her passion. She continued at Oakview working in any department that needed her, patient care, physical therapy, cooking and in her later years, she was in the medical records department until her retirement on June 29, 2012. Rose Mary served as an officer in the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 423. She enjoyed family camping trips when the children were young. Rose Mary loved traveling with Gene to Vermont to visit with his Army buddy to explore the area. She loved her family, and her grandchildren were the dearest to her heart.

Rose Mary leaves behind two sons, James Allen and wife Leslie, Jerry Allen and wife Shelly; three daughters, Kristina Phelps and husband Rick, Teresa Blair and husband Greg, and Melody (Tim Deal) Allen; ten grandchildren, Mike Phelps and wife Kieri, Jennifer Isham and husband Ralston, Alicia Allen, Courtlyn Johnson, Kaleb (Kera Harrington) Johnson, Gabriel (Marcail) Allen, Jacob Allen, Brianna Chace and husband Bill, Isabella Gunderson and husband Cory; six great-grandchildren; half-brother, Eddie Nading; half-sisters, Cheryl Nading, Patricia Nava; brothers -in-law, Farrell Allen, John Allen and wife Norma; many loved nieces and nephews.

Rose Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and four brothers.

Sylvester J. Shular, 83

Sylvester J. Shular, 83, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully on Monday, May 26, 2025, at The Villas of Holly Brook surrounded by his loving family.

Graveside services for Joe will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 1827 College Drive, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Joe was born on March 17, 1942, in Wayne County, Missouri to Clarence and Hattie Marie (Lawson) Shular.

On December 21, 1962, he married Nancy Marie Kemper in Mt. Carmel and to this union, two beautiful children were born: Jeannie M. Bilskie and Jo Anne Shular.

Joe owned and operated Shular Construction, Inc. in Mt. Carmel for 50+ years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sitting by the fire pit, driving tractors, mowing, and just about anything outdoors. He especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren. Joe belonged to the Mt. Carmel Eagles Aerie 3066.

He leaves behind two daughters: Jeannie M. (Terry) Bilskie of Evansville, Indiana and Jo Anne Shular of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; and two grandchildren, Zachery R. (Cassidy) Bilskie and Jessica M. (Aaron) Centers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Nancy; two brothers, Jerry and Paul Shular; and a sister, Helen Cox.

Debra I. Hils, 71, of Princeton, Indiana passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025.

Debra was born on February 11, 1954, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois the daughter of Jesse K. Ashby and Vivian G. (Porter) Ashby.

Debra loved her dogs as well as reading.

She previously worked at Bank of Mt. Carmel as well as Mt. Carmel Lumber Company. She attended Wallace Community College after moving to Dothan, Alabama and took transcription courses which later facilitated Debra opening her own medical transcription company, Hils Transcription Service.

Debra leaves behind 2 brothers: Kenneth (Patricia) Ashby of Mt. Carmel, IL and Robert (Lea) Ashby of Princeton, Indiana; nieces Tammy (Curtis) Whitten and Kristi (Matt) Collins; nephew, Tyler Ashby; great-nieces, Adeline Collins, Natalie Collins, and Maddie Collins; and great-nephew, Lucas (Summer) Whitten.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Tolly Ashby.

Michael Allen “Stick” Hunt, 69

Michael Allen “Stick” Hunt, 69, of Mount Carmel, Illinois was born April 20, 1956, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the son of Hershell Ogle and Patricia “Jean” (Miskell) Hunt. He departed this life on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton, Indiana with his loving family by his side.

Michael graduated from Allendale High School in 1974 and spent many dedicated years working at Amax Coal Company in Keensburg, where he was a proud and outspoken supporter of the UMWA Union. He found great joy in the outdoors, especially camping at Conservation Lake, where he made countless memories with friends and family. A true enthusiast of classic American muscle, Michael had a lifelong love for cars and motorcycles, proudly owning several over the years. An avid supporter of Illinois sports, he never missed a chance to cheer on the Chicago Bears, the Fighting Illini, and his beloved Cubbies. Michael will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Michael will be remembered by his two sons, Timothy “TJ” (Marissa) Hunt and Zachary (Jill) Hunt; three grandchildren, Maddux Hunt, Alexis Bertram and Brooklyn Bertram; girlfriend, Cheryl Wilson; two sisters, Susan Webster and Joyce (Danny) Hadley; three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hunt, Karen Hunt Cokley, and Gerri Hunt; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews; along with many friends from Amax Coal and Conservation Lake, who were like family to him.

Claudia Jo Spore, 75

Claudia Jo Spore, 75, of Saint Francisville, Illinois, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025, at home, with her loving family by her side. She was born on October 11, 1949, in Salem, Illinois, the daughter of Gerald P. and Margaret (Carrell) Boswell. She met the love of her life, Terry Spore, in 1985, and after fifteen years of building a life together, they were united in marriage on January 1, 2000, at the St. Francisville Christian Church, and continued their love together for another twenty-five years.

Claudia was a career beautician for fifty-five years. She was an avid artist and painter and enjoyed collecting antiques to add to her surroundings. During her free time, she volunteered to teach others her skills. Claudia enjoyed decorating for the seasons and was always on the hunt to find new treasures. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her presence will be dearly missed by all who knew her

Naomi Cox, 68, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, peacefully passed away, Friday, May 16, 2025, at her residence.

Naomi was born on October 3, 1956, the daughter of George Jackson and Goldie Lee (Blair) Haggard in Princeton, Indiana. She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in the class of 1974.

Naomi worked as a Security Officer for Allied Universal for fourteen years. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren.

84 year old Bobby L. Taylor of Allendale, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Gentle Care in Vincennes, Indiana.

A visitation will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Wabash Worship Center in Patton, Illinois, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life following at 4:00 p.m.

Bobby was born on July 3, 1940, in Crossville, Illinois, the son of Lee and Gladys (Amonette) Taylor. He married Janet Sue Kleinschmidt at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ on September 9, 1965. To this union two children were born: Kyle (Dana) Taylor of Mill Shoals, Illinois, and Chris (Laura) Taylor of Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Those left to share his memory include his wife, Janet of fifty-nine years and children; three grandchildren, Harper Taylor, Vance Taylor, Morrison Taylor; and brother Steve (Louise) Taylor.

Bobby was a member of Wabash Worship Center in Patton, Illinois. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and keeping up with his garden. He enjoyed fishing and running nets on the Wabash River. He worked as an inspector at Champion Labs.

Robert T. Tester, 60

Robert T. Tester, 60, of Vincennes, Indiana, peacefully passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025, at BridgePointe Health Campus in Vincennes, Indiana.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. EST at Conduit Assembly of God Church, 1150 McKinley Avenue, Vincennes, Indiana.

Robert was born on January 15, 1965, in Vincennes, Indiana, the son of Ronald Slater and Judith Tester. He grew up in Bruceville, Indiana, and was raised by his maternal grandparents, Bob and Marie Tester. He graduated from high school and attended college. On October 8, 2008, Robert married Charity Stangle in Lawrenceville, Illinois.

He was a member of Conduit Assembly of God in Vincennes, Indiana. Robert worked as an EMT for several years. He loved bonding with Brady (son) and Caspian (grandson) over music. Robert enjoyed playing the drums (he played in several praise bands), working as a DJ for radio stations, working in health care, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.

Robert leaves behind his wife Charity of 16 years of marriage; a son, Brady (Ashley) Tester of Galvaston, Indiana; a grandson, Caspian Tester; and good friends Will and Lisa Nixon of Olney, Illinois. He will be missed by his EMS family.

Michael Marion Vaughn, 76

Michael Marion Vaughn, 76, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, was called gently home by his Lord on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Those who knew him can attest to his strong spirit, wry sense of humor, and valiant, years-long struggle with chronic illness.

He was born on July 29, 1948, in Princeton, Indiana, to Marion and Florence (Woods) Vaughn. He is now joyfully reunited with them as well as his brother, Mel Vaughn, sister-in-law, Shari; sister, Phyllis (Vaughn) Lagow and other loved ones, including Mike Hargrave and Rick Henson.

Mike graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1966. He proudly served his country, joining the Marine Corps and serving in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970 and was honorably discharged in 1974. While in the Marines, he attended language school to learn Vietnamese. Upon his return to civilian life, he worked at Flintkote, then as a carpenter and roofer. Mike was very handy with tools and knew how to fix just about anything. He was a member of the V.F.W and the First General Baptist Church.

Mike is survived by brother-in-law, Jim (Judy) Lagow; nephews, Kip Lagow, Scott (Ronda) Lagow and Mike Lagow; nieces, Melinda (Vaughn) Henson and Cindy (Steve) Yonaka; many great-nieces and nephews. Beyond his family, Mike was also blessed with especially loving and supportive friends, Donnie Fiscus, George Timberlake, John A. Walter, and Rocky Wrye, who became good buddies with Mike during high school, or in some cases even before, and remained close to him throughout his life. He treasured those relationships and others, such as his caring and devoted pastor and friend, Gary Underwood, and another great pal, Timmy Weiss. He will be deeply missed by all these and more, including Jacob and Zachary Malcolm.

Nina Fern (Deffendall) Howard, 81

Nina Fern (Deffendall) Howard, 81, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at Oakview Nursing and Rehab surrounded by her family. She was born on May 2, 1944 in Bridgeport, Illinois, the daughter of Gilbert and Margaret (Farley) Deffendall. She married Gary Howard, Sr. on July 1, 1961 in Bridgeport, Illinois and together they enjoyed sixty-three years of marriage centered around their family. When they were able, Nina and Gary loved taking nightly drives to Beall’s Woods State Park while enjoying nature.

Nina will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and Meemaw. Her greatest pride and joy were her family, and she held her grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially close to her heart. In her younger years, Nina found joy in bowling and formed many cherished friendships as a member of a women's bowling league. Nina dedicated much of her adult life to working at Mount Carmel Apparel and also spent time employed at a clothing factory in Albion. Nina was incredibly talented and creative, often sewing clothes for her daughters and crafting thoughtful, handmade gifts for family and friends. She also enjoyed tending her flower beds and going to craft shows.

Nina loved her family and loved going out to eat and attend country concerts with her sisters. In the summer, Nina, loved being on the water boating with her family. Nina was an avid reader and loved to relax with a good book. She was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mount Carmel. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Nina will be remembered by her husband, Gary Howard, Sr.; three children, Benita Tarlton, Angie Campbell, and Gary Howard, Jr.; seven grandchildren, Bethany Stephens, Jeff Tarlton, Michael Tarlton, Erica Cooper, Tanner Campbell, Becky Smith, and Keri Howard; twelve great-grandchildren, Abram, Sammy and Meili Tarlton, Jason Ford, Blake, Brice, Jackson, and Finn Cooper, Theo and Lily Campbell, Willow and Thorn Smith; brother, Michael Deffendall; sisters, Maris Schonaman, and Debbie (Jahn) Sundstrom; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews. Nina was preceded in death by her parents.

Melba was born September 20, 1935, at Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Howard and Opal (Brines) Maidlow. She was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School. She married Don Anderson and upon his death, they had been married 52 years.

She was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and Daughters of the Nile. Melba worked as a clothing inspector for Johnnye Manufacturing.

Left to cherish Melba’s memory are her children Janet (Mike) Kiel of Arlington, Virginia, Terry (Leo) Zimmer of Evansville, Indiana and Bernie (Carla) Drone of Mt. Robert E. “Hairy Bob” Rosignol, 63

Robert E. “Hairy Bob” Rosignol, 63, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at home. He was born on September 11, 1961, in Mount Carmel, the son of Gilbert and Linda (Hollen) Rosignol.

Bob was a hard-working man at any job he took on. He worked in construction, helping with Richard Gochenour Construction. Bob also worked in the oil fields with Armstrong Well Service and farmed for Buchanan Farms. He was always ready to help where he was needed. In his spare time, he greatly enjoyed spending time outdoors in nature where he loved to go hunting and fishing. Bob will be missed by his family and friends.

Bob leaves behind his sister, Teresia Henry; brother, Kevin Rosignol and fiancé Carrie Richeson; three nieces, Chelsea Rosignol, Alexandria Whitmer, and Christina Henry; many special friends with whom he treasured their friendships.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

In keeping with Bob’s wishes, cremation will take place, and a private burial will be held at Armstrong Cemetery.

Patrick H. Oskins, 76

Patrick H. Oskins, 76, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on March 16, 1949 in Harrisburg, Illinois, the son of Walden C. and Dorothy E. (Walton) Oskins. Patrick married Cindy Goss on May 27, 1977 in Vincennes, Indiana and together they celebrated forty-seven years of marriage.

Patrick faithfully served his Country in the United States Coast Guard, where he dedicated himself to the mission of search and rescue. Patrick was a devoted and hardworking man who spent many years as a coal miner. Throughout his career, he formed lasting friendships, and his height earned him the nickname 'Big O' among his fellow miners. Patrick treasured time spent with his family and was the happiest when he was spending time outdoors. He loved being in the woods deer hunting and also took great pride in taking care of his yard. His presence will be missed by his family and friends.

Patrick will be remembered by his wife, Cindy; his three sons, Jason Oskins and wife, Cynthia, Josh Oskins, and Jeffery Oskins; grandson, Joey Oskins; sister, Joella Oskins; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronnie, Gary, and Jimmy Oskins.

Sandra S. Kimmel, 78, of Mt. Carmel passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on May 7, 2025.

Sandra was born December 2, 1946, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of James A. Helton and Betty Lou (Smith) Helton.

In August of 1964, she married Ernest W. Kimmel in Mt. Carmel, Illinois and to this union 4 beautiful children were born: Stacey Kimmel, Sonya McDaniel, Sandy Keneipp, and Art Kimmel.

Sandra was a customer service manager at Ayr-Way and Target and was a CNA who worked in local nursing homes. She loved being in the sun and at the river camp. Sandra enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the neighborhood kids. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan.

Sandra is survived by her children, Stacey (Donald Kamp) Kimmel, Sonya (Dave) McDaniel, Sandy (Dennis) Keneipp, and Art (Crystal) Kimmel; 17 grandchildren, Sara, Nathan, Brandon, Casey, Jessica, Samantha, Jennifer, Matthew, EJ, Jacob, Whitney, Marvin, Jordan, Shelby, Carly, Lexi, and Miley; 43 great-grandchildren; siblings, Patricia Johnson of Mt. Carmel and Kim Miskell of Princeton, Indiana, caregiver, Debbie Lewis, and several nieces and nephews.

Tracy Thomas Deckard, 56

Tracy Thomas Deckard, 56, of Mt. Carmel, IL passed away peacefully at his residence on May 3, 2025, following a 7-year battle with cancer.

Visitation for Tracy will be Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

He was born on May 10, 1968, in Wabash County, Illinois, son of Thomas Esco Deckard and Diana Kay Turner.

Tracy graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1986 and studied drafting at Vincennes University.

On September 10, 2013, he married Sherri A. Eplin in Grand River, Kentucky and together they enjoyed 11 years of marriage.

He was a crane operator and graphics designer at Young Sign Company in Leavenworth, Kansas before moving back to the area and opening his own business. Tracy and Sherri owned and operated The Finish Line auto detailing shop for approximately 8 years, where he also designed custom vinyl graphics.

Tracy always had a passion for cars and at the young age of 16, he restored his first car, a 1975 Gremlin. His last endeavor was restoring a 1980 Trans Am Indy 500 Pace Car and in the last few years, he enjoyed building and customizing models of cars he had previously owned.

He played football at Mt. Carmel High School and was a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan.

He also enjoyed flying remote control airplanes and was President of the Prop Dusters Club. He was a “Jack of All Trades” and through different careers and life experiences, he had learned how to fix just about anything. He loved vacations at the beach, camping and trips to Southern Illinois to Garden of the Gods.

Tracy is of the Christian faith, part of the family of God.

Tracy leaves behind his wife, Sherri; mother, Diana Kay Turner; brother, Bernie L. Deckard; daughters Cara Lynn Wells and Bethany Ann Deckard; stepsons, Phillip Beyes and David Beyes; grandchildren, Aaron Deckard, Kade Deckard, Sunny Wells and Kellin Wells; step-grandchildren Raelynn Burman, Leo Beyes and P. J. Beyes; and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas E. Deckard.

James Edward Phelps, 75

James Edward Phelps, 75, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at home surrounded by his family.

James was born June 21, 1949, in Horse Branch, Kentucky, the son of Herbert and Rena (Burdon) Phelps. James served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army.

On August 6, 1984, James married Aleta Joy Rayborn at the Church of Christ in Mt. Carmel, Illinois and together they have 6 children.

James came home in June of 1970 from the Vietnam War after being wounded. He worked at Snap-On Tools and Amax Coal as a roof bolter, where he retired. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing poker with his friends. Around town, James was known as “The Storyteller”.

He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and American Legion and also belonged to the Eagles.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Aleta Joy Rayborn; children, Timothy (Kristi) Burton of Princeton, IN, Cynthia (Mike Lagow) Phelps of Mt. Carmel, IL, Michael (Shelly) Burton of Mt. Carmel, IL, Stephanie (William) Umfleet of Mt. Carmel, IL, Deanna (Jason) Woods of Mt. Carmel, IL; 16 grandchildren, Tyler Phelps, William Umfleet, Natasha Groff, Chassie Umfleet, Alyssa Perry, Cheyenne Pierce, Telisha Ridgley, Robert Ridgley, Nathan Woods, Michael Burton, Erica Burton, Timia Butler, Zack Burton, Triston Phelps, Bryson Phelps, and Dayton Brimm, as well as 39 great-grandchildren; siblings, Lindall Beatty, Carolyn Kennedy, Sue Torrance, Sheila Stogner, Randall (Susan) Beatty all of Kentucky, Janie Pain of Princeton, Indiana, Leroy Beatty of Illinois.

Karen Fern Blake, 64

Karen Fern Blake, 64, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, IN surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on April 13, 1961 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Richard and Kathryn (Wall) Banks. Karen married Ed Blake and he preceded her in death in 2012. She married Eric Mensah-Sowah and he survives.

Karen will be fondly remembered for her sweet spirit and the genuine kindness she extended to everyone around her. Though she cherished her small-town roots, Karen had a deep love for exploring the world. She found joy in her travels, especially to Africa, Belize, and Mexico—places that spoke to her adventurous heart. A true lover of the outdoors, Karen found peace and fulfillment in nature. She especially loved being by the water fishing, mushroom hunting and tending to her garden. She was very fond of animals, especially her fur babies, Kamie and Sammie. Above all, Karen’s greatest love was her family. She was a faithful member of the Free Methodist Church in Mount Carmel. Karen’s kindness and loving spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Karen will be remembered by her husband, Eric Mensah-Sowah of Mount Carmel; three sisters, Shirley Melhiser of Petersburg, IN, Sandy Weaver and husband, Fred of Plainfield, IN, Vonda Friedt and husband, David of Elizabethtown, IL; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

David Mike Russell, 68

David Mike Russell, 68, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at his residence. He was born on March 27, 1957 in Grayville, Illinois, the son of William J. and Clara (Kimbrel) Russell. He was married Karen Englebright and she survives.

Mike worked for the City of Mount Carmel for many years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing with family and friends. Mike was a collector of many things. He had a large knife collection and always loved finding jewelry pieces and antiques. Mike was very handy and loved tinkering on all kinds of motors. Mike loved animals especially his beloved Pepper dog who was his best friend for fifteen years. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Mike will be remembered by his wife, Karen; sons, Charlie David Russell and wife, Melissa and Shane Russell; daughters, Tabitha Oyola, and Megan Moore and husband, Billy; stepchildren, Pat Adams and wife, Christina, Kevin Adams and wife, Jenny, and Katrina Adams; grandchildren, Seth Oyola, Dalton Russell, Dakota Russell, Madison Russell; great grandchildren, Evette Oyola and Marlyna Oyola; brother, Jim Russell of Carmi; special cousin, Barbara Simmons.
