Carol “Joanne” Bassett 81

Carol “Joanne” Bassett 81, of Bellmont, Illinois, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.  She was born on May 25, 1938 in Lawrence County, Illinois, daughter of Elvin and Martha (Baum) Woods.  She married Gary Bassett on May 26, 1956 and together they have enjoyed sixty-three years of marriage.   

Joanne enjoyed being a cook for the Bellmont School for thirteen plus years.  She Liked attending sporting events, especially when her grandchildren were involved.  In her spare time, she enjoyed working puzzles.  Traveling with her husband was especially enjoyable to Joanne.  She was a member of the 1956 graduating class of MCHS and a past member of the First General Baptist Church.  Joanne was a very caring person.  Her family meant the world to her and all of her grandchildren held a special place in her heart.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. 

Joanne will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Gary; son, David (Cheryl) Bassett; daughters, Loretta (Robert) Conn, Terri (Bill) Smith; grandchildren, Amy (Frank Schrader) Baumgartner, Ronda (Kyle) Rigg, Derek Smith, Erik (Emalie) Bassett, Cassie (Dallas) Cook; great-grandchildren, Jayden Rigg, Skylar Rigg, Violet Hadra, Jaxon Schrader; sister, Marge Kieffer; and several nieces and nephews.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert “Bob” Woods; great-granddaughter, Maggie Rose Hadra.

Alice Louise Raibley, 89

Alice Louise Raibley, 89, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 7, 1931 in Mount Carmel, the daughter of Zaiah and Sylvia (DeWitt) Reeder. Alice married Jake Raibley on March 19, 1951, who preceded her in death in 2007.

Alice was an important part of their family owned grocery business, Raibley’s IGA. When they sold the business to the Altadonna family, she remained working there for many years. She continued her career in retail at other local businesses and was a familiar friendly face, always ready to lend a helping hand. Alice loved people and made many good friends throughout her working years. She was a 1948 graduate of Mount Carmel High School. She remained a long time MCHS Aces fan attending games whenever possible. She enjoyed Cardinal Baseball as well. Alice’s family was very important to her. She loved them dearly and greatly enjoyed time spent with them. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Alice leaves behind her daughter, Linda (David) Stoops; two sons, Stan (Candace) Raibley, and Scott, (Diane) Raibley; as well as eight grandchildren, Lori O’Daniel, Colby Raibley, Nichole Franklin, Amanda Beamon, Christopher Raibley, Daniel Raibley, Tony Taylor and Michael Taylor; great-grandchildren, Joshua O’Daniel, Hannah O’Daniel, Chase Raibley, Zachry Raibley, Cadence Raibley, Bree Raibley, Colt Raibley, Lyric Beamon, Devin Beamon, Olivia Beamon, Lucas Raibley, Caroline Raibley, Elijah Franklin, Chloe Franklin, Frank Raibley, Shane Taylor, Skyler Taylor, Alyssa Taylor Jordan Taylor; great-great-grandchildren, Branson O’Daniel, Kegan O’Daniel, Kynleigh O’Daniel and Jace Galbraith; one sister, Marge (Gib) Armstrong; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Alice was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Marcus Jacob O’Daniel; one great-grandson, Jacob Marcus O’Daniel; one great-granddaughter, Adeline Faye Raibley; and one brother, William Reeder.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at the First Baptist Church, 130 W 6th St. Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Stephen Freels officiating. Burial will take place at a later date where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Jake.

Funeral Report- Wayne E. Moran, Sr.

Funeral Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Hope Lutheran Church to honor the life of Wayne E. Moran, Sr. Pastor Thomas Kramer officiated the service. Prior to the start of the funeral service, members of our local USAMV honor guard conducted a Military Walk-Through Salute. Also present were members of the Illinois Patriot Guard Riders who presented the Moran family with a flag and plaque for Wayne’s faithful service in the United States Navy. Scripture passages included, Isaiah 43:1-3 taken from the Old Testament, the New Testament Reading came from Romans 8:31-35, and John 20:24-31 served as the Gospel Reading. Congregational Hymn’s, “How Great Thou Art” and “On Eagle’s Wings” was sang during the service by those present. In honor of Wayne’s love for the Chicago Cubs, “Go Cubs Go” was played at the beginning of the service. Burial took place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with Full Military Honors. James I. “Jimmy” Wilson, 73

James I. “Jimmy” Wilson, 73, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on September 28, 1946 in Columbus, IN, the son of Lorel and Helen (Bishop) Wilson. Jimmy married Jolene Watson on December 9, 1972 and they enjoyed forty-seven years of marriage.

Jimmy faithfully served his Country in the United States Army where he was enlisted for twelve years. He also served the National Guard stationed out of Lawrenceville, IL. Jimmy loved being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was an avid NASCAR fan and always enjoyed watching the races. Jimmy also look forward to football season to cheer on the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots. He was fond of animals and especially loved his cats, Buttons and Zeva. He was a member of Elizabethtown Christian Church. Jimmy will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

Jimmy will be remembered by his wife, Jolene Wilson; one son, Randall (Debra) Akins of Denton, NC; three daughters, Darlene Massey of Forth Worth, TX, Crystal Anderson of Forth Worth, TX, and Rose (James) Hart of Lawrenceville, IL; one brother, Kenneth (Kelly) Wilson; two sisters, Sharon (Dale) Dart and Jennifer (Allen) Garland; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; close friends Bridget and Marlow Hilderbrand and Raymond (Marie) Giebs, Sr.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald Wilson; and nephew, Raymond Giebs, Jr.

In keeping with Jimmy’s wishes, cremation will take place and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Wayne E. Moran, Sr., 85,

Wayne E. Moran, Sr., 85, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi, Illinois surrounded by the love of his family.  He was born on December 29, 1934 in Brown County, Illinois the son of Oswald and Gladys (Wagner) Moran.    Wayne married Pamela Jean (Hawkins) on October 11, 1980 and together they enjoyed thirty-nine years of marriage.

 He was a graduate of Brown County High School.  Wayne faithfully served his Country in the United States Navy.  He was enlisted from 1952 to 1955 and served in the Korean Conflict.  Following his Military Service, he moved to St. Louis, MO and began working in construction.  He later worked for Sears Roebuck & Company and was transferred to the Flora, IL store where he worked until 1987. Wayne also worked as a dispatcher for the Sheriff’s office in Clay County and with the Illinois Department of Corrections in Mt. Sterling until his retirement in 1999.

 Wayne loved his family and enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren.    He enjoyed being outdoors working in his garden and doing yard work.  He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and loved following Donald Trump.  Wayne always said he experienced two miracles in his lifetime, “In 2016 when Donald Trump was elected President and the Chicago Cubs won the World Series”.  When Wayne was relaxing at the house, he loved to watch a classic western movie.  While living in Flora, Wayne served as a school bus driver and radio announcer for WNOI.  He was a member of the Civil Defense, Flora Kiwanis Club, and American Legion.  Wayne was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Mount Carmel.

 Wayne will be remembered by his loving wife, Pamela Moran of Mount Carmel; sons, Wayne (Neeley) Moran, Jr. of Effingham, IL, Michael (Geana) Collard of Carmi, IL and Benjamin (Sara) Moran of Effingham, IL; daughters, Gayle (Tom) Harris of Clay City, IL Audrey (Stephen) McCarthy of Flora, IL and Sheila (Layne) Kihn of Haubstadt, IN; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren with one on the way.

 Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, William Walters; sister and brother in law, Norma (Richard) Wegs; brother and sister in law, Charles (Wilma) Moran.

Stacey Annette Hargrave, 41, of Chicago, Illinois passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2020 in Chicago. She was born August 25, 1978 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Larry Burns and Alma Schmidt.

Stacey was employed in the food industry. She was a member of the 1996 graduating class of Oblong High School. Stacey enjoyed listening to music and spending time with her friends.

Stacey will be remembered by her parents, Larry (Karen) Burns and Alma (Eric) Schmidt; brothers, Joe (Brittany) Swift, Jake (Addie) Swift, Hunter Kifer, Larry (Holly) Burns, Nathan (Kristin) Allen; sister, LeAnne (Mike Schmitt) Burns; maternal grandmother, Pearl (Jim) Grimes; and several nieces and nephews.

George S. Fischer, 71

George S. Fischer, 71, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 31, 2020 at his residence. He was born on March 3, 1948 in Wabash County, Illinois, the son of Carl and Mary Alice (Banks) Fischer.

George faithfully served his Country in the United States Army. He loved to read Christian books and growing in his faith. George’s family held a special place in his heart and he always treasured his time he spent with them. He was very passionate about his work at Caterpillar. He fought a valiant battle with cancer showing great courage. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

George will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Mary Meacham of Georgia; many loved nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Potts; brothers, Charles Fischer and Fred Fischer.

Jennifer Lynn Phelps, 41

Jennifer Lynn Phelps, 41, of Mt. Carmel, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at her residence.

Jennifer was born August 10, 1978, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of James and Aleta Phelps and Barbara Pullen Berry.

She was a member of Heartland Worship Center and Life Recovery.  Jennifer worked as a cashier at Borowiak’s IGA.  She was a hard worker and loving mother to her boys. 

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Bryson and Triston Phelps and Dayton Brimm all of Mt. Carmel; parents, James and Aleta Phelps and Barbara Pullen Berry; siblings, Timothy Burton of Princeton, Indiana, Michael Burton of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Cynthia Phelps of Princeton, Indiana, Stephanie Umfleet of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Deana Woods of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Dustin Cartwright, Amanda Andrews and Christy Phelps of Russellville, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jim and Anna Mae Kohlbecker and Hulbert Edward Phelps and Rena Aileen Beattey.

Visitation for Jennifer will be Saturday, February 1, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Heartland Worship Center, 212 West Second Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Judy M. Hunt, 74

Judy M. Hunt, 74, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at her residence surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born on August 21, 1945 in Princeton, Indiana, the daughter of Virgil and Evelyn (Leek) Walker. She graduated from Allendale High School Class of 1963.  Judy married Dan Hunt on November 23, 1984 and together enjoyed thirty-five years of marriage centered on their family.

Judy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and some of her fondest memories was spent with family.  She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and loved to cook for her family.  Judy and Dan loved to travel and always enjoyed their trips to Opryland in Nashville, TN.  Judy worked at Mount Carmel Apparel for twenty years and Touch & Tone for five years.  Judy had a heart for helping others and this showed in her work as a caregiver.  She loved the many clients that she was able to provide compassionate care to during her time as a caregiver.  Judy was a member of First General Baptist Church in Mount Carmel.  

Judy will be lovingly remembered by husband, Dan Hunt; daughters, Lesia (John) Carr, Teresa (Luke) Colbert and Mindy Biehl; stepchildren, Tammy Huey, Brook (Tina) Hunt, Stacey (John) Allen; grandchildren, Bryce Carr, Courtney Carr, Drake Colbert, Mitchell Colbert, Kane Garcia and Gage Price; brothers, Richard (Debbie) Walker, and Greg Walker; sisters, Sharon (Ed) Schafer, Linda Bates, Debbie (Greg) Smith, and Brenda (Harry) Hottel; many loved nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Randall Walker and Jim Walker.

Imogene M. “Jean” Hocking, 89

Imogene M. “Jean” Hocking, 89, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, January 24, 2020 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehab in Mt. Carmel surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born in Richland County, IL on July 10, 1930 the daughter of Olin and Gladys (Jones) Fiscus. She graduated Mt. Carmel High School.

On July 21, 1947 Jean married Webster Hocking at the home of his parents in Keensburg Illinois.

Jean is a member of Keensburg Christian Church. She worked for her brother, Don, as secretary and bookkeeper of Fiscus Well Service and D & D Repair. She loved nothing more than spending time with her grandkids and taking them on trips. She enjoyed square dancing and working in her yard and home and growing flowers. Jean was most proud of being a Breast Cancer Survivor.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Rita (Butch) Wilcox of Prescott, AZ, Bonnie Hocking of McLean, IL, Steven (Joy) Hocking of Keensburg, IL; grandchildren, Jason (Simone) Sprinkle, Cassie Hocking, Wayne (Whitney) Hocking, Justin (Mindy) Hocking, Kim Harney, Sheila (Scott) Miles; great grandchildren, Alycia (Corey Lamay) Sprinkle, Riven and Aiden Sprinkle, Nicole and Michael Sprinkle, Xander, Maddox, Bailey, Riley and Lydia Hocking, Amanda and Elizabeth Harney, Dylan Miles; and great great grandchildren, Micah Murphy, Lucas Lamay, Alexis Lamay; sister, Rev. Kinthrell Lee “Kenny” Jones, 82,

Kinthrell Lee “Kenny” Jones, 82, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born on June 26, 1937 in Ohio County, Kentucky, the son of Carl and Hazel (Gray) Jones. Kenny married Shirley Ramsey on April 5, 1991 and they enjoyed twenty-eight years of marriage.

Kenny faithfully served his Country in the United States Marines. He loved his family and treasured the time he spent with them. Kenny was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on Kentucky Wildcats basketball team and the Chicago White Sox baseball team. He also loved watching John Wayne Movies and The Andy Griffith Show. Kenny spent thirty years in the steel mill where he worked as an engineer. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.

Kenny will be remembered by his wife, Shirley Jones of Mount Carmel; son, Kinthrell Lee Jones II; three daughters, Terri Elkin, Dana (Roy) Rueckhein and Kelli (Mark) Sulski; stepchildren, Craig Ramsey, Judy Ramsey and Tony (Beth) Ramsey; thirteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; many loved nieces and nephews.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phyllis Fraze; brothers, Leonard Carl Jones and Wendell Jones.

Davin Wayne Dale Bump, 27

Davin Wayne Dale Bump, 27, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at home. He was born on January 28, 1992 in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the son of David Bump and Brandi Carter.

Davin was self employed in carpentry and also in internet sales. He was employed at Pat’s Pawn shop which his family owns and operates. Davin had a very artistic nature. He made beautiful jewelry and could write meaningful poems. Davin enjoyed listening to music, being outdoors and camping. He was a very friendly guy who never met a stranger. His daughter meant the world to him. Davin will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

Davin will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Penelope Bump of Newburgh, IN; father, David (Susan) Bump; mother, Brandi (Kyle Wood) Carter; brothers, Dravin Bump, David Bump, Slade Roberts and Blane Roberts; sisters, Vivien Wood, Sidnee Roberts; maternal grandparents, Cheryl (Charles Ferguson) Gautney; paternal grandparents, Everett Bump, Debbie (Marvin Jolliff) Cardwell, Mike and Marilyn Nies; great-grandparents, Pat Perry, Howard and Beebee Nies; uncles, Brian (Jenny) Bump, Courtney Ferguson, Tim Nies, Kevin Nies, Chris Nies; aunt, Candi (Dustin) Vaupel; and several cousins.

Bradley R. Hawf, 58

Bradley R. Hawf, 58, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at home. He was born on October 8, 1961 in Mount Carmel, the son of Reverend William Paul and Gretchen (Hipsher) Hawf.

Brad worked as a crane operator in the construction industry. His remarkable skills in operating the very tall cranes provided him with many job opportunities all over the country, including Walt Disney World. Brad greatly enjoyed his work and many times the construction companies requested him specifically. In his spare time, Brad enjoyed woodworking and motorcycle riding. He was an outdoorsman and liked to hunt and trap shoot. Brad attended Wabash Presbyterian Church at Orio. Most important to Brad was all his family whom he loved dearly. Brad will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

Brad will be lovingly remembered by his granddaughter, Adrianna Hawf; sisters, Paula Webb, Alison (Curtis) Dudley, and Jama Hawf; bonus children, David (Tina) Emery, Charlie Allen, Lisa Howell, Becky Gaumer ; nieces and nephews, Chad Beaumont, Tiffany Price, Chantel Welker, William Gallucci; several great-nieces and nephews along with several bonus grandchildren who lovingly called him PaPaw.

Brad was preceded in death by his parents; son, Matthew Hawf; and brother, Gary Lee Hawf.

John Head, 72

72 year old Albion resident, John Head passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 8, 2020 at Wabash Valley General Hospital ER in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

John was born July 18, 1947 in Owensboro, Kentucky. He was the son of Virgil and Margaret (Fischer) Head. He married Katy Cravens on July 14, 1990 in Albion, Illinois and she survives. John was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Seabees during Vietnam. He worked for the Laborers Union 561 out of Evansville, Indiana for 49 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8222 and was a member of the American Legion in Mt. Carmel.

John is survived by his wife, Katy; two sons, Jim (Molly) Head of Bremerton, Washington and John (Gina) White of Evansville, Indiana and one daughter, April (Mattie) Ross of Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Three Brothers, Mike Head of Winslow, Indiana, Tony (Denise) Head of Velpen, Indiana and Virgil (Susan) Head of Jasper, Indiana; Four sisters, Margaret (Tim) Hardin of Pikeville, Indiana, Ruth Crays of Ferdinand, Indiana, Linda (Larry) Werne of Ferdinand, Indiana and Virginia Brown of Ferdinand, Indiana; Nine grandchildren, Jessica, Alex, Anthony, Ella, Milo, Colin, Lia, Summitt, and Saylor and several nieces and nephews also survive. John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, George and Paul, Sister, Audrey and step-daughter Jenny Casburn.

Graveside services for John Head will be Monday, January 13th, 2020 at 11:00am at Graceland Cemetery in Albion with military rites provided by American Legion Post 590 and VFW Post 8222. A visitation will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am at Nale’s Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home. William “Bill” E. Porter, 89

William “Bill” E. Porter, 89, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel.

Bill was born in Lawrence County Illinois on October 13, 1930, the son of Ernest and Emma (Hedge) Porter. He married Carolyn Newton July 13, 1973 in Benton, KY.

Bill graduated Mt. Carmel High School where he played football for all four years. He has been a lifelong Mt. Carmel Aces fan, faithfully attended all football games. Bill was presented an award for not missing a game in thirty years. He loved dirt track racing especially going to the track with family. He went to the games and the track until he was physically unable to be there. Bill loved sports of all kinds and coached baseball at the south end for several years. Family fish frys were always special to him.

Bill served his county in the U.S. Army. He worked as a foreman at the Flintkote Plant and retired from the maintenance department at North School in District #348. He loved working with the kids in the lunchroom. He was a member of American Legion, VFW, Eagles and Moose lodges.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Carolyn; children, Kathy (George) Dooley of Mt. Carmel, Kevin (Angie) Porter of Boonville, IN, Tim Newton of Evansville IN, Lee Linson and Mike Linson of Mt. Carmel; thirteen grandchildren, Dylan Porter, Dominique and Lexie Spruell, Billie Mayberry, Keyla and Levi Porter, Timia Ellis, Joey Newton, Shaylee Adams, Tyler Linson, Lorna Linson, Brook Morris, Chase Linson; several great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; several siblings; first wife Joyce Ann Porter; son, Dale Porter; daughter, Vicki Spruell; and two grandchildren, Drew Porter and Sheri Knapp.

Per his wishes, Bill will be cremated, and a Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Elaina Ann Koditek, nee Noll, age 68

Elaina Ann Koditek, nee Noll, age 68, of Channahon, IL was born November 20, 1951 to Loraine and Eleanor May (Smith) Noll in Luzon, Pampanga, Philippines, where her father was serving in the United States Air Force.

Elaina and her husband, Dale, owned and operated D & G Drilling in New Lenox, for 30 years. In her earlier years, she worked as a keypunch operator for the E. J. & E. Railroad.

Elaina lived life to the fullest, and always made everyone around her feel special. If you loved her, she loved you even more. Elaina had a love for traveling and scuba diving with her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, entertaining and cooking. Elaina was known to serve a delightful dinner at a moment’s notice that would be fit for royalty. After retirement Elaina enjoyed wintering in Florida with her husband Dale. They created many wonderful memories together including boating, fishing, food and fun. Elaina always put family first and made time for everyone. Her loving spirit and sunshine smile will be deeply missed by so many.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 50 years, Dale Koditek of Channahon; two devoted daughters, Dawn (Mark) Byrne of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, and Sandy (Robert) Vail of Homer Glen, IL; three precious granddaughters, Sydney Byrne, Isabella Vail, and Giselle Vail; and a dear sister, Loraina Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John Noll; and one sister, Beverly Noll.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a Private Burial of her urn will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Carmel, IL on Monday, January 6, 2020.

Memorials made in her name to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
