Carolyn Sue Graddy, 84, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton, Indiana.
She was born on July 16, 1942, in Olney, Illinois. She was the daughter of Bernard K. and Daisy A. (Boatman) Steury. She married George Graddy on December 15, 1990, in Lancaster, IL.
Carolyn worked as a coal miner at AMAX Coal Company in Keensburg, IL, and wrote a weekly column for Sumner Press using the name Susan Sovereign. She was a member of Lick Prairie Christian Church.
She loved to write, and Carolyn had two books published. She also enjoyed cooking, knitting, and fishing. Carolyn loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, George; children, Laura (Bart) Gordon, Dave (Irene), Carter, Scott Graddy, Andrew Graddy, and Lauri Reed; her brother, Kenneth Steury, 16 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Daisy; children, Melody “Dee-Dee” Hooper, and George Graddy III; sister-in-law, Sandy Steury; infant brother, Delbert Steury; and grandson Rick Gordon.
Per her wishes, there will be no formal services held at this time. Carolyn will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
