Gordon Russell Giebler, 74

Gordon Russell Giebler, 74, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, June 24, 2022, at River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on November 18, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Gordon and Alice (Withington) Giebler.  In 2008 Russ married Sue Batchelor-Spond and they have enjoyed fourteen years of marriage.

Russ grew up on a Missouri farm with extended family around him.  He attended both St. Louis County and Owensville, Missouri schools.  He then went to St. Louis Christian College where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Ministry.  While at SLCC, he became a member of the Kingdom Four Quartet and traveled many places to perform.  It was there he also married his wife, Sandra Morris, and enjoyed thirty-seven years with her.  After graduation and a time of ministry in Independent Christian Churches early in his career, he came to Mt. Carmel to work for Dowell in 1986.  While at Dowell, Russ became a Service Supervisor.  After many years at Dowell, he went to work for Cinergy’s Gibson Generating Station and worked his way up to become Employee Development Specialist.  While there, Russ obtained his Master’s Degree in Management from Oakland City University.  Upon retirement from Cinergy, then known as Duke Energy, he became a consultant for GAI.  Prior to his working career,  Russ faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.

Russ was an active member of Parkview Christian Church.  He had an ongoing music ministry his entire life.  He led worship at church, sang in the WVC choir, participated in many musicals performed at WVC, and was a member of Mulberry Jam singing group for many years.  Russ was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren.  In later years, he also became fond of time at the beach with his wife, Sue.  He enjoyed working in his gardening, driving his tractor and preferred being outdoors on his little farm.

Russ leaves behind his loving wife, Sue; children, Andrew (Sonia) Giebler, Heather (Bobby) Tucker, Summer (Bert) Gawthorp; stepson, Andy (Michelle) Spond; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren
