Shirley Ann Brown, 86, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Wabash General Hospital with her loving family by her side.
She was born October 15, 1935, in Lancaster, Illinois, the daughter of Linder and Grace (Brewer) Williams. She attended Mt. Carmel High School and worked as a seamstress at Mt. Carmel Sewing Factory, then at the Dietary Department of Wabash General Hospital for twenty-five years, she retired at eighty-one.
Shirley attended First Christian Church in Mt. Carmel. She enjoyed taking bus trips with her sister and cousins. She loved baking, growing and planting flowers. Christmas was her favorite time of year. The family always gathered at her house to celebrate the holiday. She loved shopping with her daughters.
Left to cherish Shirley’s memory are her daughters, Tonya Johnson, Ronda Lawson, and Georgia (Stan) Rutter; three grandchildren, Lorrie Rutter, Elliot Johnson, Eli Johnson; sister Dorothy Tarpley; sister-in-law Leta Williams and several nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Herschel Williams, and Thomas Williams; two sisters, Roberta McCrary and Lois Saltsgaver; and son-in-law, Jay Johnson.
Funeral service for Shirley will be Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home followed by burial at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
COVID-19 precautions, wearing of face coverings, social distancing, and use of hand sanitizer is recommended. The family requests that all visitors wear a mask.
