John W. Bolden, 100

John W. Bolden, 100, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, peacefully passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021,  at his home surrounded by his loving caregivers.

John was born January 28, 1921, in Wabash County, Illinois, the son of William B. and Mary Agnes “Mamie” (Carr) Bolden.  He graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in the class of 1939.  John married Wilma A. “Billie” Shanks on March 18, 1944, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  On September 28, 1950, John joined the U.S. Army.  He proudly served his country in World War II and the Korean War.

Upon his return from the military, John opened and operated CB Electric.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church.  John served as director for Wabash Savings and Loan.  He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Elks, where he served as a trustee, VFW, American Legion and was on the Police and Fire Commission.  John was a golfer and enjoyed traveling with his wife.  John and Billie were very community minded, supporting various organizations throughout the area.

Left to cherish John’s memory are his sister, Nellie Haywood, nieces, nephews and friends.      

John is preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Mamie Bolden; wife, Wilma A. “Billie” Bolden; and siblings, Gertrude Seibert, Hattie Mayfield, Edward Bolden, Clyde Bolden, Ben Bolden, Dallas Bolden, Claude Bolden, Charles Bolden and Eugene Bolden.

Funeral services for John will be Monday, November 15, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  Burial will immediately follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and run until the time of the funeral.

COVID-19 precautions, wearing of face coverings, social distancing and use of hand sanitizer is recommended.

Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church or Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies.  Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
