City Council Subdivides Property To Help WGH Project

The transfer of a small part of property along 13th Street will aid the city’s efforts to do roadwork near the Wabash General Hospital construction project. At their meeting this week, the city council approved the subdivision of property along 13th Street that involved 5 feet of property on 3 different lots being transferred from the hospital to the city to increase right of way in that area.

Chief: Golf Cart/UTV Legalization In Mt. Carmel Going Well

It’s been a little over a year since golf carts and UTV’s became legal on Mt. Carmel streets and police chief Ryan Turner told the city council that the legalization has been smoother than many anticipated.

Turner said the city has issued 181 permits for the golf carts and UTV’s with all of the money generated from the fees going to the police department. Permits for 2021 are now available by stopping by the police department and speaking with the dispatcher.  

Donations Accepted Today At Buy Low For Food Pantry

A food drive is being today at Buy Low in Mt. Carmel to benefit the Wabash County food pantry. The effort is being organized by the Wabash County Democratic Central Committee as volunteers will be accepting non-perishables such as canned fruits and vegetables, boxed dinners, canned soup, and peanut butter. Even though the event is being sponsored by local democrats, spokesperson Sandra Ward says the food drive cuts across political lines..

 

Ward said volunteers are welcomed to help accept the donations today.

Fort Branch man arrested on a battery charge

On January 12, 2021, at 10:23 p.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a report of a disturbance in the 500 block of South Railroad Street in Fort Branch, Indiana. While on the phone with a communications officer the reporting party was able to give a description of the suspect and Deputy Brian Naas located the suspect 28-year-old Eric Woodby of Fort Branch walking in the area. At that point Deputy Naas with the assistance of Fort Branch Police Officer Jeff Beck began an investigation into the incident. During that investigation Deputy Naas spoke with all individuals that were involved in the incident. At the conclusion of his investigation Deputy Naas transported Mr. Woodby to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Battery. He remains in custody on a $1250 bond.

Tennessee man arrested for not having license

On January 11, 2021, at 6:36 p.m. Gibson County Deputy Brian Naas conducted a traffic stop on a Red 2016 Ford Fusion on US 41 near Patoka for speeding. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Naas identified the driver as 21-year-old David Martinez of Antioch, Tennessee. During a roadside investigation Deputy Naas ran Mr. Martinez through the National Crime Information Center and Indiana Data And Communications System and discovered that Mr. Martinez had never been issued a valid operators license. At that point Deputy Naas placed Mr. Martinez into custody and transported him to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Operating While Never Licensed. He has since posted a $500 bond.

Disturbance call leads to arrest of Haubstadt woman

On January 15, 2021, at 9:07 p.m. Gibson County Deputy Bryce Jutzi and Haubstadt Officer Joshua Hoover were dispatched to the 600 block of East State Road 68 to investigate a disturbance. Upon arriving at the residence officers located both parties and began an investigation into the call. During the investigation one of the parties, 23-year-old Adreann Sizemore of Haubstadt became increasingly upset and began to yell profanities at the officers. Officers repeatedly asked Ms. Sizemore to lower her voice during the investigation however she was unable to due to her level of intoxication. At the conclusion of his investigation Deputy Jutzi placed Ms. Sizemore into custody and transported her to the Gibson County Jail. Upon arriving at the jail Ms. Sizemore was charged with Neglect of a Dependent and Disorderly Conduct. She remains in custody on a $750 bond.

New Jersey man arrested on multiple charges after fight at truck stop

On January 16, 2021, at 7:20 p.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a report of a fight at the Pilot Travel Center located at 1042 E. Warrenton Road near Haubstadt, Indiana. Officers from the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Branch Police Department, and Haubstadt Police Department were dispatched on scene and upon arriving officers separated all parties involved in the incident. At that point Deputy Brian Naas began an investigation into the fight allegation. During the investigation evidence showed that 42-year-old Parwinder Kang of Mt. Holley, New Jersey battered another individual. Mr. Kang was an extreme state of intoxication and was verbally and physically noncompliant with officers during the investigation. At the conclusion of the investigation Mr. Kang was booked into the Gibson County Jail on charges of Battery, Public Intoxication, Resisting Law Enforcement, and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer. He remains in custody on a $1500 bond.
