At the Mattoon Class 2A Sectional on Thursday, the Mt. Carmel Lady Aces track team qualified three individuals who will advance to the Illinois State Track Meet. Hazel Earnest, Leah Lewis and Zoie Randall will head to the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charlestown on Friday to compete in their respective events.
Sophomore, Zoie Randall, with a jump of 1.54 meters (5’1”) earned a fifth place finish in the high jump. She will advance to the state meet by equaling the 2A qualifying standard of 1.54 meters.
Junior, Leah Lewis, competing in the discus throw, threw a toss of 34.30 meters (112’6”) on her first throw to break her own school record and exceed the 2A qualifying standard of 33.42 meters. Lewis’ throw was good for a fifth place.

Aces Post Senior Night Win Over Edwards County
From Coach Tyler Browning: Golden Aces (17-8 overall) get a nice home W tonight on senior night, beating Edwards County by the score of 7-4. It was a hard fought game on both sides, and we got the big hits late when we needed it!
We tallied 10 total hits in the game, but the big day belonged to Coston, going 3-4 at the plate with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Big triple in the 6th inning by Coston scored 2 runs to give us the lead for good. Bowser also had a multi-hit game going 2-4 with 2 RBI.
Bowser started the game on the mound and worked 4.2 innings, striking out 4 batters. The best story of the night then belonged to Wes Stoll, making his first varsity appearance of his career on the mound, going the final 2.1 innings with zero runs allowed and earned the W. That’s a great TEAM win!
Back in action at home today against Gibson Southern for our 5th game of the week. First pitch is at 5:00 p.m. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the 2026 seniors!
Brendan Bowser, Asher Coston, Cole Carmickle, Michael Reed, and Ryder Sloss. We are grateful for the contributions of these fantastic individuals, but we are not done yet

Aces Walk Off Lions To Finish 2nd In LIC
From Coach Tyler Browning: Golden Aces (16-6 overall, 5-2 conference) get the home victory Monday against Marshall in walk-off fashion. Sloss doubles in the bottom of the 7th to bring home Deisher for the 5-4 victory. We finished 2nd in the conference for a third straight season. It stings to not reach one of our goals, but we still have a lot of opportunities in front of us to make some exciting things happen the next few weeks.
Sloss and Bowser both had multi-hit games for the Aces, while Keepes was on base all 3 plate appearances, going 1-1 with a couple of walks. Coston was very good on the mound, going 5 innings with 7 K’s. Deisher came in to throw the final 2 innings. Both pitchers did a good job of competing and throwing strikes.
Busy week as we have 5 games in 5 days. Back in action Tuesday as we travel to Flora. We will have our GameChanger streaming live if you can’t make the trip. Thanks to everyone who came out to Dee White Monday! Go Aces!
