Peggy Pearl Brown, 91

Peggy Pearl Brown, 91, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away on November 14, 2025 at Deaconess Gibson General Hospital surrounded by the love of her family.

 Peggy was born on September 26, 1934, in Keensburg, Illinois. She was the daughter of Harold and Dorthy (Richardson) Waddle. She married Wilbur Brown on October 12, 1968, at Keensburg Christian Church and they enjoyed 57 years together.

 She was an inspector at Snap-On Tools in Mt. Carmel for 27 years and retired. Peggy was very active in church at the Mt. Carmel First Christian Church - Disciples of Christ. She also helped with Camp Walter Scott.

 Peggy is survived by her husband, Wilbur Brown, son, Aaron Brown, sister Betty Winternheimer, and several nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Norman Robert Waddle, and sister, Helen Kolb.

 A visitation will be held on November 18, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home.

Jon Keith Chapman, 87

Jon Keith Chapman, 87, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Linda E. White Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 22, 1938, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the son of John Henry Chapman and Thelma Pauline (Birkla) Chapman.

Jon was a lifelong resident of Mount Carmel and a proud graduate of Mount Carmel High School. He honorably served his Country in the United States Army before continuing his passion for service and technology at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, where he took great pride in his work on missile and radar programs.

After completing his military service, Jon began a successful career as an Electronic Technician. He owned and operated Chapman’s TV Center and later joined Duke Energy, where he became known not only for his steady, dependable work but also for his willingness to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. His dedication, skill, and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him.

On August 5, 1962, Jon married the love of his life, Shirley Mason, and together they shared more than sixty-three years of marriage. Their life together was marked by devotion to one another, dedication to their family, and a deep commitment to their faith.

Jon was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where his faith remained an important part of his daily life. He was also a member of the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, and he appreciated the friendships and fellowship he found within those groups, along with the opportunities to serve others in his community.

Jon will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Shirley Chapman; his daughter, Robin Denise Chapman; four grandchildren, Whitney Belt, Britney Wagner, Samantha Haller, and John Dearing; six great-grandchildren, Cade Belt, Kyson Wagner, Macie Belt, Theodore Belt, Joseph Haller and Finn Dearing; and his sister, Florence Pearl (Chapman) Strickland.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Thelma Chapman; daughter, Tina Belt; sister, Joetta Ann Briggs; grandparents; stepfather, Howard Leach; and brother-in-law, Herbert Strickland. A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mount Carmel, Illinois with Father Robert Zwilling officiating.

Cay Carithers, 84

Cay Carithers, 84, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at River Oaks Health Campus. He was born on September 30, 1941, at St. Francis Hospital in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Joseph E. and Mildred E. (Schroder) Carithers. He married Paula Anderson and she survives.

Cay graduated from V.I.T. High School in Table Grove, Illinois. He began his career at Kenray Brass in Vermont, Illinois, where he worked for several years before joining the Amax Sun Spot Coal Mine, also in Vermont. After the mine closed, Cay relocated to Mt. Carmel, Illinois, where he continued his mining career at the Wabash Mine.

Cay will be remembered by his wife, Paula Carithers; son, C.B. Carithers and wife, Christina of Corinth, Mississippi; step children, Diana Hogue, Jeff Malcolm and Donnie Malcolm; grandson, Airion Carithers; granddaughters, Cheyanne Carithers and Keisha Carithers; step grandchildren, Trevor Henson, Nathan Henson, Mikaela Hoehen, Autumn Torres, Jacob Malcolm, Jaxson Malcolm, Kyleigh Owenby; great grandchildren, Quenton Carithers, Castiel Carithers, Autumn Carithers, Dominic Carithers and Ezra May; step great grandchildren, Ashton Curt Banks, Keaton Cay Banks, and Zayden Cropper.

Cay was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joan Carithers Dalton; brothers, William Carithers, and J.B. Carithers.

Richard Earl Fine, 80

Richard Earl Fine, 80, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN with his loving family by his side.  He was born on March 19, 1945 in Princeton, IN, the son of Voris E. and Rosemary (Bender) Fine. 

Richard faithfully served his Country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. While later stationed in Minot, North Dakota, he married and raised his two children, Stephen and Jennifer. After completing his military service, Richard began a long and dedicated career as an electrician, a profession he proudly pursued for fifty years. He was a valued member of IBEW Local Unions 16 and 714. 

In 1993, Richard met the love of his life, Kim Strong, and the two were married on September 19, 1998. He lovingly welcomed Kim’s daughters, Brittany and Chassity, into his life and heart. In his younger years, Richard enjoyed watching football and NASCAR, and he especially loved taking his kids to the Indy 500; a tradition he looked forward to every year. Richard had a genuine love for people and was happiest when surrounded by friends, socializing, and dancing.

Richard will be remembered by his wife, Kim Fine; son, Stephen (Tracy) Fine; daughters, Jennifer Fine, Brittany (Mike) Burkett, and Chassity Richardson; grandchildren, Hayley, Katelyn, Mallory, Erin, Brayden, Chloe, Kynley, Kortlyn, Zep; great grandson, Laken; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

 Richard was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Betty, SueAnn, and Jean; many loved brothers-in-law.

Thomas D. Gidcumb, 59

Thomas D. Gidcumb, 59, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on November 6, 2025 at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was born on June 4, 1966 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the son of Delmar and Elinor (Driggs) Gidcumb.

Tommy was a dedicated and hardworking man who took pride in his work at Road Master, Motorad, and Toyota. He loved spending time outdoors, especially when working on lawn mowers or enjoying a quiet day by the water. Whether he was fishing or simply taking in the beauty of nature, Tommy found peace and happiness in the great outdoors. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Tommy will be remembered by siblings, Linda Jones, Danny Kays, Rebecca (Tom) Hammond, Teresa (Jim) Taylor, Denise Romero, Debbie (Norman) Churchill; fiancé, Terri Brown; many loved aunts, uncles, cousins, along with several nieces and nephews.

Charles W. Miller, 81

Charles W. Miller, 81, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025.

He was born on July 9, 1944, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois to Charles Ray Miller and Barbara Caroline (Sheridan) Miller. He married Linda Joyce Poulter on June 3, 1967, in Charleston, Illinois.

Bill was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School, and he received his Business degree from Eastern Illinois University. He was a Supervisor for Sunline Brands in St. Louis, Missouri throughout his life. He attended Lifespring Community Church in St. Peters, Missouri with this wife, Linda Miller.

Bill is survived by his son, Tim Miller of Mesquite, Nevada and his sister, Judy Chastine of Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Linda J. Miller.

A private family burial will take place at Highland Memorial Cemetery for the Miller family.

Terry D. McDonald, 69

Terry D. McDonald, age 69, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Monday, October 27, 2025, at Linda E. White Hospice House.

Terry was born April 23, 1956, in Mt. Carmel, IL, to Jim McDonald and Norma Jean Monaco. He married Sheree Ann McDonald on February 14, 1976, and together they built a loving family. He is survived by his wife, Sheree; their children, Michelle Seaton (Jeff), Chris McDonald (Ashley), and Damien McDonald (Katelyn); and grandchildren Parker, Preston, Arden, Amelia, Myles, and Harvey.

Terry graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1974. He studied Coal Mining Technology at Wabash Valley College and continued his studies at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He began his career at Amax Coal, where his strong work ethic and innovative thinking led him to become Director of Maintenance and later Senior Maintenance Planner.

He later joined Dry Systems Technologies, INC., serving as Director of Sales and Technical Services. During his time there, he was granted U.S. Patent No. 7,150,258 B1 for his work on diesel engine and immersion safety technology, a system designed to improve the safety and performance of heavy equipment. His contributions at DST reflected his lifelong drive to make things safer, stronger, and more efficient.

After retiring from Dry Systems Technologies, Terry continued to share his expertise at Philips Machine and later at the Evansville State Hospital and Evansville Psychiatric Children’s Center where he served as Physical Plant Director.

Terry was a hardworking man with a gift for finding better ways to do things. He had a deep passion for mentoring others and believed in lending a hand whenever someone needed help. Above all, he loved his family deeply. He was always there when they needed him — steady, devoted, and full of love for his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Terry also had a strong faith. He believed in the power of salvation through Jesus Christ and carried that faith with him throughout his life and short battle with pancreatic cancer. It guided his actions, his generosity, and his hope. His family finds comfort knowing that his faith has led him home to eternal peace, where he is free from pain, and they will be reunited with him someday.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Parkview Christian Church, 11467 N 1550 Blvd, Mt. Carmel, IL 62863. Following cremation, his ashes will remain with family.

Linda Leighty, 86

Linda Leighty, 86, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois went peacefully to her Lord and Savior on Monday October 27, 2025.

Linda was born on September 11, 1939, in Millerville, Illinois (Petrolia, IL). She was the daughter of John and Rosella Dutton. She married Ronald Dee Leighty on February 2, 1958, and they enjoyed 67 wonderful years together. Wherever you would see Ron, you would also see Linda. They were inseparable.

Linda went to Bridgeport Township High School and then studied Secretarial Science at Vincennes Business College. After college, Linda was the Secretary for Leighty Brothers Wholesale in Lawrenceville, Illinois. In 1977, she joined her husband and worked alongside him for State Farm Insurance in Mt. Carmel until their retirement in December 2000.

Linda was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother (Mimi). She enjoyed time with her family and watching them participate in various sporting activities. She was an integral part of raising her grandchildren and providing a wonderful and loving life for her children.

A quote from Mark Richison, preacher at Parkview Christian Church, states Linda’s role in the church as this “There is no title to describe what Linda did for us at Parkview. She was a one-woman welcoming committee. She made it her business to know everybody who came through the doors and to make sure they felt welcome. She took attendance and noticed when people were absent and then contacted them to encourage them. She didn’t want anyone to fall through the cracks. She worked tirelessly behind the scenes keeping records and producing baptismal certificates. She would work hard to make the rest of us look “good’ according to another church member, Linda was the official greeter, and she knew how to make people feel welcome. She sent countless cards to visitors, people who couldn’t make it to church or ones that just needed extra encouragement. She worked countless hours for the love of the church and Jesus.

Linda will be remembered by her husband, Ron, son Marc (Karla) Leighty of Mt. Carmel, IL, daughter Amy Leighty of Newburgh, IN and grandchildren Peyton (Derek) Boger, Nick Leighty, (Grace Thomason), Kelsey McGill (Evan Goen), Abbey (Justin) Carpenter, two great-grandchildren, Gwen McGill and Charlotte Carpenter and a brother, Larry Dutton of Lawrenceville, Illinois and sister-in-law Stephanie (Tim) Wilson of Estero, Florida.

John L. Bratton, 78, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully at Ascension St. Vincent in Evansville, Indiana on October 21, 2025.

He was born on May 7, 1947, in Mount Carmel, Illinois to parents John Nelson and Martha Lucille (Henson) Bratton. He married Virginia M. “Ginger” Bratton on August 23, 1985 by Pastor John Yarbor. They enjoyed 40 years together.

John loved his family very much, and after the passing of his parents he took care of his brother, Roy, for many years. He enjoyed being involved with church at Heartland Worship Center, and working with the Bridges of Hope. He also enjoyed golfing and was a railroad conductor for over 20 years.

He is survived by his children, Meredith (Rodney) Newton of Princeton, IN, Margie (Gary) Krug of Allendale, IL, Michelle (Terry) Holcomb of Owensville, IN, and Jimmy Mahan of Evansville, IN; and grandchildren, Brittany (Logan) Keil, Taylor Newton, Gary Lee (Michael) Perry, Bethany (Robert) Pack, Nick Perry, Ryleigh (Logan Jones) Holcomb, Ali (Eric) DeLong, James Mahan, Kasey Mahan; several great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild on the way.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Ginger, brother Roy Bratton, half-sister Betty Dardeen, and grandson William Lee Timberlake.

Helen M. Youngman, 92, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully at Wabash General Hospital on October 20, 2025. She was born on June 24, 1933, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois to Everett Youngman and Julia (Seitz) Youngman.

She was a caregiver for many different families.

Helen is survived by her son, Farrell Youngman of Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Michael G. Jackson, 72

Michael G. Jackson, age 72 years, a resident of rural Belknap, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, October 22, 2025, at 3:16 A.M. at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, Illinois.

Michael was born June 18, 1953 in Carmi, Illinois. He was the 2nd of 7 children born to Bud and Hazel (Robbins) Jackson.

On September 4, 2015, Michael was united in marriage to Beth Hutchison in Vienna, Illinois. They made their home in the Forman community, northeast of Belknap.

In addition to his wife, Michael is survived by: step-daughters – Olivia Botello and her 2 year old son, Zy, as well as Daniela (Henry) Bundren; his siblings – Jimmy (Donna) Jackson, T.A. (Becky) Jackson, Vickie Jones, and Lisa (Nathan) Linson all of Mt. Carmel, Illinois and Susie (Jerry) Taylor of Princeton, Indiana; a sister-in-law – Betty Jackson of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, a brother – Donnie Jackson, and a brother-in-law – John Jones.

Michael attended Mt. Carmel High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served as a tank commander. He was deployed in combat in all 3 Gulf Wars serving in Iraq. In 2008, he retired from the Army after 23 years of honorable service. After completing his military service, he moved to a small farm near Simpson in Johnson County. He began working as a bus driver for the Vienna Grade School. After driving the bus for a few years, Michael once again retired. More recently, he provided transportation for Amish families until the time of his passing.

Although Michael had some health concerns the last few years, he was always busy assisting his father-in-law on the farm. He loved to mow and take his grandson, Zy, for rides in the side-by-side all over his property. Michael was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed deer hunting and especially fishing.

Michael was a member of the former Christian Motorcycle Association (C.M.A.) as well as the Masonic fraternity.

Michael and Beth worshipped at Safe Harbor Ministries near Belknap.

A service honoring the life of Michael Jackson will be conducted Friday afternoon, October 24, 2025, at 1 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Richard Swiney will officiate.

Burial will be in the Belknap Masonic Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post # 5222.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 24, 2025, from 11 A.M. until the service hour at 1 P.M. at the funeral home.

Lorretta V. Moody, 78

Lorretta V. Moody, 78, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation on October 20, 2025.

Lorretta was born February 5, 1947, in Lawrenceville, Illinois to Ralph Jack Campbell and Louella (Longbons) Campbell. She married Fred L. Moody on May 30, 1967, in St. Francisville, Illinois and they were blessed with 56 wonderful years together.

She worked as a seamstress at the Mt. Carmel Clothing Factory. Lorretta’s favorite pastime was cooking and sewing for her family.

Lorretta is survived by her son, Roger Moody of Browns, Illinois and brother, Jackie Lee Campbell. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren, Andrea Renne, Heather Roxanne, Autumn Rose, and Caleb Allen Moody, Nathan Greuel, Chelsea Veree and Taylor Lou Roosevelt.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Fred L. Moody, daughter, Lynnette Roosevelt, sister, Penny Sue Loewn, and brother, Louie Campbell.

Carrie Deisher, 56, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. She was born on June 8, 1969 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Johnson and Virginia (Puckett) Hutton. She married Howard “Pork” Deisher on July 15, 1985 and together they enjoyed forty years of marriage centered on their family.

Carrie deeply loved her family and cherished every moment spent with them. Her grandchildren held a very special place in her heart. Carrie always looked forward to traveling with family. One of her favorite memories was going to the Casinos in Tunica, Mississippi with her husband, Pork. Carrie dedicated eleven years of service as a dietary aide at Wabash General Hospital, where she was a valued and hardworking member of the team. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

Carrie will be remembered by her husband, Pork Deisher; son, Travis (Billie Glassco) Deisher; daughter, Tasha (Jose) Estrada; grandchildren, Aliannah Deisher, Tayden Deisher and baby girl, Brynlee Estrada due in March; two brothers, Ray Hutton, and Robert (Valerie) Camp; two sisters, Sheila Hawkins, and Jessie Camp; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jack Lynn Thread, 82

Jack Lynn Thread, 82, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, October 20, 2025, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 1, 1943, in Bellmont, Illinois, the son of James Lyle and Hazel Mae (Bender) Thread who lovingly adopted and raised Jack in rural Edwards County where he enjoyed all things that growing up on a farm offered. On March 7, 1964, he married Jeanne Ashcraft, and together they celebrated sixty-one years of marriage.

Jack will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. He had a special bond with his grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them, especially when attending their school events and cheering them on. Jack had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also had a passion for adventure and speed; riding motorcycles, driving fast cars, and attending tractor pulls brought him great joy. Jack often attended the National Farm Show and local tractor pulls alongside a group of men from his church. Among them was Kevin Anderson, with whom Jack shared a special bond with. Jack and Jeanne attended the Mount Carmel Church of Christ for many years where they took several mission trips to Mexico to help build houses.

To know Jack, was to love him. He was always ready to step in and help anyone that was in need. He never knew a stranger and loved to talk to everyone he met. Jack could often be found at the river telling stories, listening to Aces Football and spending time with his “river buddies”. As a young man, Jack was a member of the Wabash County Civil Defense and was a volunteer firefighter. During that time, he was working as a plumber’s apprentice for Kingsbury Plumbing. He started working in the maintenance department at the Gibson Generating Station in March 1975, where he worked for twenty-seven years until his retirement in 2003. When Jack retired, he and Jeanne enjoyed taking bus trips to many different places around the Country.

Jack will be remembered by his beloved wife, Jeanne Thread; three sons, James (Jully) Thread, Jeffrey (Renee) Thread, and Jeremy (Morgan) Thread; three daughters, Jeannette (Ryan) Fravel, Jaclynn Spencer, and Jessica (Chris) Anderson; twelve grandchildren, Evan (Mackenzie) Thread, Allison Thread, Justin Fravel, Dalton Fravel, Kyle Fravel, Tripp Thread, Jayden Spencer, Lilly Keener, Jace Spencer, Raylan Keener, Taylor Thread, Reece Anderson; two great-grandsons, Leon Thread, and Scott Thread; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Judith Thread; sister, Joyce Thornhill; and brother, Otho “Butch” Woods.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Highland Memorial Garden Mausoleum. Following the Graveside Service, a Celebration Gathering to honor Jack’s life will be held at Mount Carmel Church of Christ.

Betty Louise Taylor, 84

Betty Louise Taylor, 84, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2025, at 2:15 a.m., surrounded by her loving family. Betty passed peacefully after a life filled with love, service, and devotion to those around her. Born on April 5, 1941, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Betty (Beckerman) Hershberger. Betty spent her life deeply rooted in her community. A proud graduate of Oakland City College, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting before later pursuing her passion for learning and literacy by earning her Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University of Illinois.

Betty faithfully served as the librarian of the Mount Carmel Public Library, where she shared her love of reading and learning with generations of local families. Her gentle spirit, kind smile, and willingness to help others left a lasting impact on all who knew her. On December 28, 1978, Betty married Steve Taylor, and together they shared nearly forty-seven wonderful years of marriage. Their life together was filled with faith, laughter, and deep devotion to family; a partnership built on love, patience, and enduring strength.

Betty was a devout Christian, growing up in and serving the Lord through the Mount Carmel Church of God, where her faith guided every chapter of her life. In her later years, she joyfully attended the Wabash Worship Center, where she continued to worship, fellowship, and grow in her faith with her church family. Betty will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her warmth, and her boundless love for her family. Her life was one of quiet strength, grace, and steadfast devotion to God, and her memory will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

Betty will be remembered by her devoted husband, Steve Taylor; her loving children, Stephen “Brent” Taylor and wife, Tabitha, Jarrod Banks, Tony Banks and wife, Jaimie, Damon Banks and wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Kylie Hinton, Kelsey Hinton, Kaden Taylor, Dylan Banks, Ella Banks, Emma Banks, Logan Banks, Cainan Banks, Levi Banks, Sophie Banks, Luke Banks, Annie Banks, Chloe McIntire, and Ellie McIntire; great grandchildren, Ryker Banks, Keaton Banks, and Ashton Banks; bonus great grandson, Zayden. Betty legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren who brought her endless joy and laughter, filling her heart with love and pride.

Irma Elizabeth Madden, 73

Irma Elizabeth Madden, 73, of Bellmont, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 18, 1952, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of John I. and Irma F. (Stoneberger) Stoltz. Irma married Ross Madden on June 7, 1970 and together they enjoyed fifty-five years of marriage.

Following graduation at Mount Carmel High School, Irma was a beautician and opened her own beauty shop. Irma had a deep love for people and was dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care as a home health caregiver. Irma found joy in watching mystery shows and cheering on Cubs baseball games alongside her husband. In her free time, she especially cherished shopping trips with her children. Irma was a member of the Bellmont United Methodist Church. Above all, she was most proud of her four-generation family and deeply treasured the moments when they could all be together.

Irma will be remembered by her loving husband, Ross Madden of Bellmont; son, Christopher Madden and wife, Tabby of Paris, IL; daughter, Christina Haggstrom and husband, Wade of Terre Haute, IN; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Peggy Sue Compton of Bellmont, IL; brothers-in-law, Larry Madden and Danny (Ann) Hawf; sister in law, Laveta (Bill) Casburn; many loved nieces and nephews along with special nephew, Jacob (Kandace) Compton; and many loved cousins.

Michael "Mike" Clay Donham, 66

Michael "Mike" Clay Donham, 66, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025

in Decatur, Alabama.

He was born in Mount Carmel, Illinois on September 30, 1959 to the late

Robert and Mary Evelyn Yarbrough Donham.

Mike earned his medical degree from the University of South Alabama in

Mobile, Alabama in 1993 and went on to practice medicine as a Primary Care

Physician in Decatur, Alabama for over 30 years.

Mount Carmel always held a special place in Mike's heart. He kept up with

hometown friends, news, and events, never missing a chance to follow the

Aces football and basketball teams. In recent years, he enjoyed live streaming

their games online.

Mike was an avid sports fan. He had the opportunity to travel to many MLB,

NBA, NFL, NHL, and NCAA football and basketball games. Many of which

were playoff and national championship games. His favorite teams were the

St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, Indiana Hoosiers, and The Alabama

Crimson Tide. He and his wife, Holly, traveled to games often, regularly

attending Cardinal’s spring training and Alabama football games.

Throughout his lifetime, Mike attended trapshooting events with his father and

grandfather, becoming a skilled trapshooter himself. He regularly enjoyed

attending the Grand American Trapshooting Championships in Sparta,

Illinois.

Outside of travel, hobbies, and his professional career, Mike enjoyed

spending time with family, attending his niece and nephew’s sports events

throughout the country, as well as regular family dinners to eat pizza, where

they spent many Friday nights reminiscing on friends, family, and their time

growing up in Mt Carmel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Harold Donham and Mary

Evelyn Yarbrough Donham and grandparents Robert L. Donham and Sylvia

Sexton Donham, James E. Yarbrough and Mary Kate Inman Yarbrough.

He is survived by his wife, Holly Sims Donham of Decatur, AL; son (step),

Harrison Michaels of Birmingham, AL; daughter (step), Gini Beth Michaels of

Decatur, AL; brother, Brad Donham (Valerie) of Huntsville, AL; nephew, Alan

Donham (Kerianne) of New York City, NY; and niece, Kayla Donham of

Huntsville, AL.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 1:00 PM with service

following at 2:00 PM at Decatur First United Methodist Church in Decatur, AL.

Burial service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 10:00 AM at

Sandra “Sandy” Kay Windes, 75, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Wabash General Hospital. She was born on December 10, 1949, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, daughter of Robert Lewis Windes and Vernie Maxine (Garrett) Windes.

Sandy worked as a graphic artist. She was very sports-minded in her activities. She excelled at the position of catcher in the ladies’ softball league for twenty-five years. Sandy also enjoyed fishing with her brother and sister, golf, bowling, and camping. She loved being outdoors working in her yard and garden. Sandy enjoyed cooking, playing cards, and had a love for dogs. She followed St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Green Bay Packers football. Sandy loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Carmel. Above all, Sandy loved her family and friends, and treasured time spent with them. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Sandy leaves behind her sister, Janice Windes; brother, Rob Windes and wife Darla; nieces and nephews, Krystle (Brandon) Leach, Alex Windes, Tyler (Kylie) Windes, and Megahn Newlin; great nieces and nephews, Mya Leach, Malachi Leach, Addy Windes, and Isaac Windes; many loved aunts, uncles and cousins. Jeffrey L. Morgan, 73

Jeffrey L. Morgan, 73, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away on October 5, 2025, at Wabash General Hospital with family by his side.

Jeff was born Thursday, July 3, 1952, in Mt. Carmel, the third child of John A. and Hester Jane (Shepard) Morgan. He was a proud member of the Mt. Carmel High School Class of 1970. On September 1, 1972, he married the love of his life, Beverly K. Talley, at Parkview Christian Church. High school sweethearts, Jeff and Bev built a life together filled with love and family.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Jeff owned and operated M & S Oil Well Cementing with his brothers after their father’s passing. Through the many ups and downs of the oil industry, Jeff successfully ran the business, working the last 18 years alongside his son, Sean. M & S Oil Well Cementing operated for 76 years, employing countless friends and family members throughout the decades. During an oilfield downturn in 1999, Jeff and his brother John D. expanded operations to Gillette, Wyoming, where they worked in the methane industry until 2017. Jeff loved the oilfield and could recall, in detail, the wells he worked on across the tri-state area.

Outside of work, Jeff was a diehard Chicago Bears fan, an avid hunter, and a skilled trapper. His passion for deer hunting began with his father-in-law, Norm, and he proudly passed that tradition down to his sons, son-in-law and grandchildren. He especially cherished trips to Colorado in pursuit of elk, including bagging one in 1985 in Alamosa and later taking his father-in-law and sons on a memorable hunt in 2010. Each fall, hunting at Lick Prairie with family became a treasured tradition.

Jeff was also a devoted Mt. Carmel Aces fan. He rarely missed a school event-whether it was softball, volleyball, tennis, cheer, football, soccer or a school play. Above all, Jeff adored his grandchildren. Known affectionately as “Grampie” he was the one who always had a hug-or a cold Coke-waiting for them. Strong, quick-witted, loyal, and selfless, Jeff was the fixer of all things, the Go-to guy, and the rock of his family. Even after Bev’s passing, he continued to show unwavering strength for those he loved. Together, Jeff and Bev opened their home to many teenagers over the years, treating them as their own. He was the patriarch, always present, always giving, and always putting family first.

Family vacations were some of Jeff’s greatest joys. From countless Disney and beach trips to adventures throughout the western United States, he loved creating memories with those he loved most.

Jeff is survived by his children: Jenny (Eric) Meadows, Derek (Tia) Morgan, and Sean (Diana) Morgan; and his seven beloved grandchildren: Morgan, Madi, and Maddox Meadows; Clay and Kelsey Morgan; and Maverick and Eliza Morgan. He is also survived by his sister, Teri (Dale) Healy; sisters-in-law, Brenda Morgan and Gail Morgan; brother-in-law, Michael Talley; sister-in-law Deb (Steve) Winkler. Jeff’s close friends Dave & Alena Pettyjohn, Marcia Townsend, Randy Keepes, Greg Seaton, Rodney Loeffler, and Layne Long.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hester Jane Morgan; his wife, Beverly K. Morgan; mother and father-in-law, Bonnie and Norman Talley and his brothers, John D. Morgan and Patric Morgan.

Jeff’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and presence. He will be remembered as a strong man with a big heart-a devoted husband, father, Grampie, and friend-who was always there when you needed him.

Phillip “Phil” Lee Gower, 78

Phillip “Phil” Lee Gower, age 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Vincennes , Indiana  on September 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with stage 4 esophageal cancer. He was lovingly cared for by his devoted wife and daughter during his final days.

Phillip was born on September 14, 1947, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to the late Wilford D. Gower and the late Norma M. (Wilson) Berry. A proud graduate of Vincennes University and Indiana State University, he earned degrees in journalism—an early passion that guided his remarkable career.

On May 29, 1969, Phillip married the love of his life, Beth Slinkard Gower. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, family, and community.

Phillip dedicated over three decades to his work as a newspaper editor, leading the Daily Republican Register in Mount Carmel, Illinois, from May 1979 until his retirement in May 2013. His passion for the written word and dedication to journalistic integrity left an enduring mark on colleagues, readers, and the community he served.

A man of faith, Phillip was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mount Carmel, Illinois, and Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Greenwood, Indiana. He adored his wife, daughter, and granddaughter and cherished time spent with friends and family. Phillip also found joy in music—especially his lifelong love of The Beatles.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bill Gower.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Beth Slinkard Gower of Vincennes, Indiana; his daughter, Lindy Gower Meiser (Greenwood, Indiana); his granddaughter, Marabelle Meiser (Greenwood, Indiana); and his sisters: Linda Dolph (Fredericksburg, Virginia), Marianne Stratton (Sandpoint, Idaho), and Elise Bryant (Murrieta, California).

A private graveside service will be held on October 18, 2025. A celebration of Phillip’s life will be planned at a later date for all friends and family to gather in his honor.
