Robert Lee “Bob” Scott, 68

Robert Lee “Bob” Scott, 68, of Winslow, Indiana, passed away Monday, October 17, 2022, at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born July 9, 1954, the son of Billy Joe Scott and Viola Cora (Carnahan) Banet, in Vincennes, Indiana. In 2012, Bob married Mary Lois Scott in Winslow, Indiana. 

Bob was a coal miner for Amax Coal Mine in Keensburg, Illinois, until it closed. He was a member of the United Mineworkers Union. He enjoyed working on cars, tractors, and lawn mowers. Bob’s greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren and family. 

Left to cherish Bob’s memory are his wife Mary; children, Samuel Wayne Scott of Winslow, Indiana, Emily Sue (Adam) Shular of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and Nikki Mae Scott (Adrian Hardy) of Muncie, Indiana; siblings, Richard (Robin) Scott of Ft. Branch, Indiana, Cheryl Bolt of South Carolina, and Sterling (Bobbie) Banet of Mattoon, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Cassandra Day.

Ronald Lee Green, 80

Ronald Lee Green, 80, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022, at Wabash General Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.  He was born on September 23, 1942, in Moweaqua, Illinois, the son of Kenneth Dean Green and Myrta Ellen (Baldwin) Green.  He married JoAnn Chapman on September 1, 1963, and together they have enjoyed fifty-nine years of marriage, centered around their family.

Ron was employed as a Wabash County 2nd Judicial Court Reporter for thirty-plus years.   He was an avid automobile enthusiast who liked cars of all kinds but especially Corvettes.  Ron liked to restore old cars in his spare time.  He attended the Daytona 500 many times with family, and enjoyed watching Indy, NASCAR and all kinds of racing on television.  Ron loved his family dearly and his grandchildren held a special place in his heart.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Ron leaves behind his loving wife, JoAnn; children, Kathy Ann Alka and husband Jon, Donald Lee Green and wife Susan; grandchildren, Matthew A. (Meredith) Alka, Steven L. (Kiley) Alka, Ty A. Green, Julie A. (Matthew) Herman, Nathan L. Green, Mariah L. Green, and Makenzie P. Green; great-grandchildren, Lane R. Alka, Ava G. Alka, Jase M. Alka, Chloe A. Alka, Mason D. Alka, Reid A. Alka, and Oaklynn A. Churchwell; one sister, Judy A. (Wynn) Herron; many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, and infant brother, Larry Green.

Jackie Joe Ellis II, 55

Jackie Joe Ellis II, 55, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital, in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Mount Carmel on February 11, 1967, the son of Jackie Joe and Delores Ellis, and Karen (Lambert) and Jim Boyd. 

Jackie Joe was lovingly nicknamed Jackie Boy early in life by his family and friends.  He worked as a pipefitter and traveled to many places which he greatly enjoyed.  He lived by the motto, work hard, and play hard.  He loved fishing and being on the river with family and friends.  Jackie Joe was proud to be called a South-end River Rat.  In addition to fishing, he often spent time mushroom hunting and ginseng hunting.  He liked tinkering with things and could fix anything.  He attended Gospel Kingdom Church and was a member of the Eagles and VFW.  He treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren who were the loves of his life.  Jackie Joe will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Jackie leaves behind one son, Andrew Ellis; two daughters, Whitney Ellis, and Savannah Ellis; eight grandchildren, Alexzandrya, Ascher, and Axl Mayberry, Annica, Lakelyn, and Stephen Wyatt Ellis, Harmony, and Izzy Birkla; his mothers, Karen Boyd and Delores Ellis; brothers, William “Billy” Ellis, Norman Lee (Sarah) Ellis, Chad (Mary) Wissel; one sister, Stephanie McCoy; many loved cousins, nieces, nephews, and aunts.

Jackie was preceded in death by fathers, Jackie Joe Ellis and Jim Boyd; paternal grandparents; William “Guy” and Dora Lou Ellis, maternal grandparents, Earl and Edna Lambert; uncle, Donnie Hodgson; nephews, Brandon Ellis, Derick Birkla and DaKota Ellis; and one cousin, Mary Lynn Barnes.

Carmen L. Spray, 66

Carmen L. Spray, 66, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at home, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on September 17, 1956, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Bob and Patty (Henson) Lang.  She married Cary Spray on January 2, 1995, and together they have enjoyed twenty-seven years of marriage, centered around their family.

Carmen was employed for over twenty years as an electrician at Duke Energy.  She loved her job and was a very hard worker.  In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping and going out to eat with her sister.  Carmen liked gardening and doing yard work.  She enjoyed fishing on the Wabash River and hosting Fish Frys with her family.  Carmen was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Carmen leaves behind her loving husband, Cary; son, Bobby Joe Linson and wife Lori; stepchildren, Robert Spray, and Amanda Spray; three grandchildren, Mackenzie Linson, Michael Spray, and Jacob Myers; brother, Bobby Lang and wife Jaymie; sisters, Gwynna Lockhart, Goldie Kieffer and husband Jeff; sisters-in-law, June Lofton, and Karin Wiggins; many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mark D. Crouch, 53

Mark D. Crouch, 53, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Meadowbrook Skilled Nursing and Rehab, in Grayville, Illinois, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on February 8, 1969, in Mount Carmel, the son of Richard F. and Carol Jean (Dicus) Crouch.

Mark worked in the oilfields most of his life. He also was a custodian at the VFW which he considered his home away from home, and he treasured the many friendships made there. In his spare time, Mark loved fishing on the Wabash River and mushroom hunting. He had a love of animals, especially his dogs. Mark was a momma’s boy who loved being with his family. He was a member of the VFW and Eagles. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Mark leaves behind mother, Carol Jean Crouch; brothers, Roger Crouch and wife Robin, Richard Crouch and wife Debbie; one sister, Leona York; many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mark was preceded in death by his father.

Kimberly Shaun Liddle, 66

Kimberly Shaun Liddle, 66, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at home, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on January 15, 1956, in Mount Carmel, the son of Don and Margaret (Thompson) Liddle.

Kim was a 1974 graduate of Mount Carmel High School.  He went to work for Snap-On-Tools and later for Azteca Milling.  Kim was a history buff and enjoyed researching genealogy.  In his spare time, he enjoyed camping and antique shopping.  Kim was a member of Free Methodist Church.  He was a loving father and grandfather, who was very proud of his family.  Kim was a friend to many, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. 

Kim leaves behind two daughters, Margaret Currington and husband Ronnie, Maddie Johnson, and husband Matt; five grandchildren, Ethan and Lyndsey Delong, Brielle Currington, Gracie and Kiley Johnson; brother, Kevin Liddle and wife Terry; sister, Tammy Zenthoefer and husband Mike; sisters-in-law, Terry Liddle, Barbara Liddle; ex-wife, Gayla (Braselton) Wagner; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donnie Liddle, and Craig Liddle.

Ricky Lee Schroeder, 68

Ricky Lee Schroeder, 68, of Grayville, Illinois, died Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at his home. He was born June 11, 1954, in Fairfield, Illinois, the son of Carrol Leman Schroeder and Mildred Marie (Waggoner) Schroeder. He was married to Rena Beth (Bare) Schroeder, and she survives. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Rena Schroeder; sons Eric (Heather) Schroeder, Matthew (Ashley) Schroeder, all of Grayville; sisters Elaine Trusty of Cowling, Illinois, Brenda (Dennis) Kurtz of Grayville; granddaughter Ella Schroeder of Grayville; brothers in law Steve Bare, Brad (Karen) Bare, David (Melissa) Bare; and father and mother in law Bob (Anna Mae) Bare. 

Visitation and funeral are Friday, October 7, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Grayville, Illinois. Visitation is at 10 am and funeral is at 11 am. Burial is in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville, Illinois.

Randall Gene “Tumbleweed” Merritt, 71

Randall Gene “Tumbleweed” Merritt, 71, of Carmi, Illinois, died Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at his home. He was born November 27, 1950, in Eldorado, Illinois, the son of James and Betty (Null) Merritt. He married Patricia “Patty” (Clifford) Merritt on August 18, 1972, and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Tumbleweed was a truck driver and a United States Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Patty Merritt of Carmi; son Mike (Elizabeth) Merritt of Schaumburg, Illinois; daughter Melissa (Chris) Behrend of Duvall, Washington; sister Pauline Weaver of Fairborn, Ohio; grandchildren Lucas and Joey.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

In keeping with Tumbleweed’s wishes, his remains were cremated.

Visitation and funeral service is Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi, Illinois. Visitation is at 5 pm and funeral is at 7 pm. Military Honors will be conducted following the service under the funeral chapel carport.

Deloris R. Medler, 84

Deloris R. Medler, 84, of Allendale, IL, formerly of Albion, IL, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022, at Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Carmel, IL surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Fairfield, IL on April 10, 1938, to Cleve and Dortha (Smith) Doty. Deloris married Allan Medler in Albion, IL on July 6, 1956, and he preceded her in death on Feb 12, 2011.

She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dedicated her life to her family. Deloris enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time at Kentucky Lake.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cleve and Dortha (Smith) Doty, her husband Allan Medler, two sisters; Madeline Lewis, Vicki Harris, four brothers; Tony Smith, Russell Doty, Bud Doty, Ronnie Doty, and granddaughter, Amy Adams.

Rick C. Abby, 65

Rick C. Abby, 65, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on September 29, 2022, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee with his loving family by his side. He was born on July 17, 1957, in Mount Carmel, the son of Clarence and Helen (Lowe) Abby. He married the love of his life, Sandy Blackburn on July 2, 1978, and together they have enjoyed forty-four years of marriage, devoted to their family.

Rick was employed at Snap-On Tools until it closed in 2004, and then went to work for Packaging Corporation of America. In his younger years, Rick enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed riding dirt bikes which led some of his grandchildren to also love the sport. Rick spent every moment he could going to his grandchildren’s races. His family was his priority and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren, brought him great joy. Rick attended Parkview Christian Church as long as his health permitted. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Rick leaves behind his loving wife, Sandy; two daughters, Jennifer Barbre and husband Christopher, Sara Calverley, and husband Bryan; grandchildren, Evan and Matthew Barbre, Emmy and Max Calverley; sisters, Kathy McClellan and husband Paul, Becky Whitlow and husband Jim; one nephew, Eric McClellan and wife Megan.

Patricia A. Sharp, 79

Patricia A. Sharp, 79, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, September 26, 2022, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on February 1, 1943, in Mount Carmel, the daughter of Basil and Ruby (Fortner) Brandebourg. She married Billy D. Sharp on July 29, 1960, and together they enjoyed forty-five years of marriage until his passing on April 18, 2006.

Patricia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed being helpful to others which lead to a career as an in-home caregiver. Patricia also worked as a retail clerk for many years at Rural King. She had a love of animals, particularly dogs. Patricia enjoyed doing yard work and in her spare time she loved to read. She loved her family dearly and will be missed by all who knew her.

Patricia leaves behind one son, Scott Sharp; grandchildren, Kiana, Malia, Bailey, Melody, Mandy, Brittany, and Crystal; great-grandchildren, Kora, Logan, Lexi, Carly, Miley, Max, Scarlett, Stella, and Chrislynn; one sister, Sandy (Larry) Detruf; one niece and one nephew.

Robert Herbert Reed, 79

Robert Herbert Reed, 79, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away September 24, 2022, at his residence.

 He was born September 8, 1943, in Linton, Indiana to Lester F. Reed and Emma Katheryn Sampson. Bob was raised from five years up by Ray E. Goodwin, his stepdad. Bob and Judy were married on June 28, 1981, in Mount Carmel, Illinois.

 Bob thoroughly loved and enjoyed the time spent with his wife and family. He loved selling for Wabash Food Service, it did not feel like a job to him but a time to meet and talk with people. Bob had such a caring and giving heart, that he enjoyed volunteering for Circle A Servolution in Allendale and Helping Hands in Vincennes. For eight years he was known as “Bingo Bob” to many at Oakview Heights, spending time there playing bingo with the residents and making sure they always had a prize for winning. Bob enjoyed his vacations to Orange Beach and Florida. He was a huge IU Basketball and Mount Carmel Aces sports fan.

 Left to cherish Bob’s memory are his wife, his children, Lester (Roxann) Reed, Ernie (Lydia) Reed, Lee (Gordon) Bend, Becky (Brian) Horrall, Jeff (Tammy) Dzikowski, Jill (Rick) Kruse, John (Melissa) Dzikowski, Jody (Danny) Golden, brother, Ray (Jean) Goodwin, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

 Preceded in death by his parents Ray and Katheryn Goodwin, his father Lester Reed, siblings Vince Goodwin, Larry Goodwin, Barbara Pyatt, Marilyn Gauchenour, and niece Rennee Lehman.

 Visitation will be Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Lick Prairie Cemetery.

Joan Carole (Vandever) Deffendall-Lindsay, 82

Joan Carole (Vandever) Deffendall-Lindsay left her earthly home in Titusville, Florida and joined her Heavenly family on September 1,2022. She was born April 12, 1940, the daughter of Charles and Pauline (McDowell) Vandever.

She was preceded in death by her Mother who died shortly after her birth, her Father, her Step-Mother Erma McKibben Vandever, her sister Julia Ann Puryear and her husband’s Joseph P. Deffendall (the love of her life) and Robert W. Lindsay.

Joan is survived by her nephew Tome Puryear and family of Kennewick, Washington. and her niece Karen (Ken) Stanley Dowell of Redmon, Illinois. and family.

Graveside services will be held at Highland Memorial Cemetery Tuesday, September 27th at 11:00 am. There will be no formal visitation.

Mary Elaine Davis, 77

Mary Elaine Davis, 77, of Allendale, Illinois, passed away very peacefully, Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Oakview Nursing and Rehab, with her daughters Kelly and Christy by her side.  She was born on March 18, 1945, in Mount Carmel, daughter of Jack and Mary Andrews.  She was married to Harold Davis who preceded her in death.

Mary was a devoted homemaker and worked many years as a waitress.  She loved serving all the regular customers who became good friends to her.  Mary’s favorite homemaking task was doing laundry.  In her spare time, she enjoyed reading.  Mary was Baptized and received her Lord and Savior in the Baptist church.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Mary leaves behind her children; Kelly Sanders and husband Gill of Allendale, IL; Mike Rodgers of Gallatin, TN, and Christy Brown of Patoka, IN; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; brothers, J (Jennifer) Andrews of Owensville, IN, Jerry (Lavon Stokes) of Springfield, IL; sister-in-law, Sheila Strockbine of Mount Carmel; several loved nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Patricia (Patty) Capps; one infant grandson, one infant great-granddaughter; one brother, Richard Strockbine. 

In keeping with Mary’s wishes, cremation will take place and she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at White House Memorial Gardens in Tennessee at a later date.

Mary Ruth Kight, 76

Mary Ruth Kight, 76, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at home. She was born on December 20, 1945 in Raleigh, Illinois, the daughter of Fay and Alma (Jones) Massey. Mary married Rudy Kight on November 20, 1976 and together they enjoyed forty-four years of marriage centered on their family before his passing on November 15, 2020.

Mary will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was the happiest when she was able to support the grandchildren in their various sporting events and school activities. She also loved to tell stories to her grandchildren and would elaborate with each visit, continuing where she left off. Mary worked for the Edward’s County School District for over thirty-five years as a third-grade teacher. She was artistic and very creative. In her free time, Mary enjoyed being outdoors, fishing with her husband and family. She was also a sports fan and enjoyed watching baseball, football and golf. Mary was a member of the Free Methodist Church and loved taking trips with her church family. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Mary will be remembered by her son, Brandon Kight and wife Jill; grandchildren, Blake, Dirk, Asher, Claira, Judah and Finley Kight; two brothers, Ted Massey and Henry Massey; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Etta Katherine Rosignol, 74

Etta Katherine Rosignol, 74, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Wabash General Hospital in Mount Carmel. She was born on December 19, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Andrew “Andy” and Hazel Jeanette (Gray) Anthis. She graduated from Bellavista High School in 1965. She returned to Mount Carmel following high school to attend college. Etta married Howard Rosignol on March 23, 1968, in Mount Carmel. Etta and Howard enjoyed getting in the car and going on for a drive around Wabash County. They had celebrated fifty years of marriage before his passing on March 2, 2019.

Etta worked various jobs and kept up with the true joy of her life which was sports. She coached girls’ softball and played ball for seventeen years. Etta also had a passion for bowling. She coached the youth bowling league, while enjoying bowling herself for over sixty years. In August of 1970, she gave her life to Jesus and was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Mount Carmel. She loved her church family and was active teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and served on several church boards. She was an animal lover especially dogs. Etta spent over forty years cleaning homes in Wabash County and loved working with her clients. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Etta will be remembered by her brothers and sisters in law, Paul Rosignol and wife, Nancy, Bill Rosignol and wife Cindy, and Joyce Swanson; step sister, Sheila Roush; cousins, Kim Minniear and Jennifer Robinson; many loved nieces and nephews; special friend and caregiver, Beverley Eckiss.

Etta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Rosignol; stepfather, John J. Archdeacon.

Trena Ann Linson, 65

Trena Ann Linson, 65, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away at home on Monday, September 12, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Trena was born on October 20, 1956 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Norman and Oma (Richardson) Cox.  She married Johnnie A. Linson on September 14, 1990 and together they enjoyed thirty-two years of marriage.

Trena will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who treasured her family dearly.  She was very fond of animals and loved her two dogs dearly.  In her free time, she loved attending the Indy 500 and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.  Trena also loved getting in the car and going for a drive.  She always looked forward to trips to Gatlinburg taking in the many sights.  Trena also found peace at the ocean and loved sitting at the beach.  She earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work and loved being able to help people.   While she lived in Mount Carmel, Trena attended Evangelical United Methodist Church.  She will be missed by her family and friends.

Trena will be remembered by her loving husband, John Linson; two sons, Jason Kamp and Bobby Joe (Lori) Linson; three grandchildren, Tierza Kamp, McKenzie Linson, and Joyce Lang.

Trena was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Robert “Al” Cox.

Mary J. Mason, 88

Mary J. Mason, 88, of Fairfield, IL, formerly of Albion, IL, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Carle Richland Hospital, Olney, IL with her family by her side. She was born October 14, 1933, to John and Sarah (Cates) Robinson in Noble, IL. Mary married Howard K. Mason on January 24, 1958, at the West Salem Christian Church in West Salem, IL.

She was a lifelong member of the Samaria Baptist Church. Mary loved to crochet.

She is preceded in death by her husband Howard K. Mason in 2003.

Mary is survived by seven children, Patsy (Dick) Kuykendall, Gary (Diana) Mason, Sue (Art) Saumier, Connie Mattingly, Bill (Judy) Mason, Janice (Gene) Brock and Terry Mason, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Visitation: Wednesday, September 21, 2022, from 09:00 am to 11:00 am at Ingram Meridith Funeral Home, Albion, IL. The family requests those attending to dress casual.

Emily Grace Allen, 18

Emily Grace Allen, 18, of Millstadt, Illinois, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022.  She was born on December 18, 2003, at Missouri Baptist Hospital, in St. Louis, Missouri, the first child of Christopher John and Sara Joan (Newsum) Allen.  Emily was a 2022 graduate of Belleville West High School and was currently attending SIUE on an academic scholarship, pursuing her dream of becoming a flight nurse. 

Emily was very active in sports from a very young age.  Through the years she played soccer, basketball, volleyball and softball, ultimately making softball her sport of choice.  During her earliest years of softball, she had the best coach a little girl could ask for, her dad, which created a special bond between them. She played as a middle infielder for the Belleville West Maroons and also a Southern Illinois Select team, Illinois Esprit, where she made many close friendships.  Emily was a four-year member of the Student Council and an honor student. Emily had a sweetness for animals, especially her dog CoCo who has been by her side since she was a little girl. She was employed part time at Colonnade Senior Living in O’Fallon as a receptionist.  She was Baptized and Confirmed in the Concordia United Church of Christ where she attended with her family.

Emily had the brightest smile, gave the best hugs, was fun loving and had a way of making her friends and family feel special.  Her friends describe her as full of light and love, who never judged anyone.  She was always looking for the good in people and would not stand for anything she didn’t believe in.  They go on to say Emily was always there when they needed her and was the best person to be surrounded by.  She defended her friends who were being bullied or degraded and always let them know they were amazing, and she was proud of them.  Another friend added that knowing Emily was an honor.  She was a very strong and caring young woman who made everyone feel welcome.  Emily had the best sense of style, loved her fancy shoes and although she also loved her pj pants, she always dressed with a smile.  Her beautiful smile and ocean blue eyes were sure to brighten your day.  May her bright light never dim and continue to guide us every day.   Emily Grace Allen leaves a positive impact and many special memories with everyone who knew her, and her presence on this earth will be deeply missed.

Emily leaves behind her parents, Chris and Sara Allen; one brother, Lucas “Luke” Allen; maternal grandmother, Patricia “Patty Gran” Newsum; paternal grandparents, John “Papa” and Norma “Grammy” Allen, all of Mount Carmel, IL; aunts and uncles, Erin (Sam) Eddinger, Nathan Newsum, Lisa Green, Michelle (Danny) Stoneberger, and Joni (Craig) Sternberg; several great aunts and uncles, many loved cousins and special friends.

Emily was preceded in death by her maternal grandad, Ronald Newsum; and aunt, Mindy Newsum.

Visitation will be held on Saturday September 17, 2022, from 9:00am-1:00pm at Zion Evangelical Church, 117 W. White St., Millstadt, IL; funeral service to follow at 1:00pm with the Reverend Joan H. Mier and the Reverend David Krueger co-officiating.  Interment will take place at Concordia United Church of Christ Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.

Henry Simmons Price, 79

Henry Simmons Price, 79, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana surrounded by friends and family.

Henry was born June 5, 1943, in Greensburg, Kentucky, the son of Henry Luther Price and Nina Lora (Burton) Bowman.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Carmi, Illinois. He received his Associate Degree from  Wabash Valley College.  He served his country in the U.S. Army in Fulda Germany guarding the Berlin Wall and discharged with a rank of Sergeant E-5 NCO. Henry retired from Snap-On Tools after twenty-eight years of hard work and dedication.     

Henry was an avid bowler, having bowled in several leagues in the area. He loved throwing horseshoes and washers. He always had a smile on his face; he never met a stranger. Always active, loved dancing and yoga. He enjoyed many meals at Big Jon’s Lunchbox in Mt. Carmel. He was known to be early for everything. He enjoyed travel, especially bus trips where he met the love of his life.

Henry is survived by his children, Gail (Roger) Dailey of Owensville, Indiana, Julie (Elijah) Keeper of Owensville, Indiana; grandchildren Mercedes (Tim) McCormick, Kristin Burden, Lexus Keeper, Kalea Garrett; great grandchildren, Kade, Kimber, Callahan, Timmy, Elias, Mila and Greyson Henry; sister, Carolyn Sue Bishop of Greensburg, Kentucky; significant other and love of his life Linda Carter of Carmi, Illinois and her children,  Kenny Carter and Pam Hammell; and several nieces and nephews.

He loved time spent with his family, especially his daughters and granddaughters whom he lovingly called his “6-pack of girls”. Henry was an avid Chicago Cubs and Kentucky Wildcats fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Larry Joe Price.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Masonic Service starting at 7:30 p.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home. Celebration of Life for Henry Price will take place Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois 62863. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Maumee Cemetery in Johnson, Indiana.
