Raymond Joseph Tennis, 73, of Browns, Illinois, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2026, at home, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on March 18, 1953, in Wabash County, Illinois, the son of Irvin Walter and Katherine Rose (Kneer) Tennis.
Ray Joe was a lifelong farmer, having grown up on the family farm. Alongside four of his brothers, he worked to continue the family's farming operation and its success. In addition to farming, Ray Joe was also involved in the oil business.
He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed helping with many of its events, especially the annual chowder. Ray Joe was known as a handyman and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a kind, friendly man who genuinely cared about his family and friends and was always there when someone needed a helping hand. Everyone who knew Ray Joe will miss his genuine smile.
A devoted Catholic, Ray Joe was a faithful member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, where he greatly enjoyed singing in the church choir. He will be remembered for his strong faith, generous heart, and the love he shared with his family and friends.
Ray Joe leaves behind four brothers, Louis (Gabriela) Tennis, Gerald (Linda) Tennis, James (Jeanne) Tennis, Mark (Marsha) Tennis; four sisters, Rose Marie (William) Speicher, Bernadette (Larry) Shein, Annette (Buck) Sherman; Brother-in-law, David Ritchie; many loved nieces and nephews.
Ray Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leo F. Tennis, Paul W. Tennis; sister, Mary Jo Ritchie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date at St. Sebastian Catholic Church. When service date and time is set, the obituary will be updated. Burial will follow at St. Sebastian Catholic Cemetery.
