Dale E. Halfacre, 87

Dale E. Halfacre, 87, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, hard work, and treasured memories.

Born on July 6, 1938, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, Dale was the son of Norvel “Shorty” William Halfacre and Fern Mae Halfacre. He was born and raised in Mount Carmel, where he met the love of his life, Sandra Jane “Sandy” Halfacre. They were married on October 12, 1957, beginning a marriage that was blessed with nearly 69 years of love, faith, and devotion.

Dale dedicated 43 years of his life to Snap-on Tools, where he built a career marked by dedication, integrity, and hard work before enjoying a well-earned retirement. He took great pride in providing for his family and was respected by those who knew and worked alongside him.

Affectionately known as a true “river rat,” Dale loved the Wabash River. One of the stories he loved to tell was about swimming across the Wabash River, a feat that perfectly reflected his adventurous spirit. Whether he was on the riverbank or reminiscing about the river, it always held a special place in his heart.

A devoted Christian, Dale’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He loved the Lord and sought to live each day with kindness, humility, and compassion. His family finds comfort in knowing that his faith has now become sight.

Dale found joy in life’s simple pleasures. If there was a yard sale within driving distance, chances were he was there. He loved searching for hidden treasures, visiting with friends and strangers alike, and always enjoyed bringing home a great bargain. Those Saturday adventures became some of the many memories his family will forever cherish.

Above all else, Dale was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his family and watching it grow through the generations. His stories, laughter, steadfast faith, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Jane “Sandy” Halfacre; his children, Daleona Jean Shelton (Denver) of Dover, North Carolina, Daralena Joyce Bean (John) of Slovakia, Europe, and Toby Dale Halfacre (Shelia) of Bolivar, Missouri; his grandchildren, Dacia, Dathan, Dayla, Dayln, Dara, Dale, Daine, Danae, Dessa, and Micah; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Brian Dale Halfacre; his parents, Norvel “Shorty” William Halfacre and Fern Mae Halfacre; his brother, Norvel William “Junior” Halfacre; and his sisters, Joyce Ann Porter, Alma Jean Polston, and Mary Lou Slunder.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 3, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m., at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home in Mount Carmel, Illinois.
