Clayton Scott Kirkman, 40

Clayton Scott Kirkman, 40, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on April 6, 2026. He was born on January 2, 1986, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the son of John “Kent” and Paula (Rodgers) Murphy.

Clayton had a deep passion for music and especially loved writing and performing rap songs. He found peace in the outdoors, spending time hunting arrowheads and mushrooms. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan. Growing up, Clayton loved playing baseball and was affectionately nicknamed “Wild Thing” by those who knew him best. Clayton will be remembered for his creativity, his love for music, the outdoors and the joy he brought to family and friends.

Clayton will be remembered by his mother, Paula Murphy and husband Jay; father, John “Kent” Kirkman; sister, Carly (Bill Dill) Kirkman; step-sister, Emily (Brandon) Kurzeja; maternal grandparents, Ronald and Barbara Rodgers; aunts, Janet Sanders, Jessica (Dan) Hinderliter and Janice (Sam) Palmer; uncle, Duke Rodgers; his beloved dog, Kane Kirkman; many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Clayton was preceded in death by his brother, Tyler Kirkman; paternal grandparents, Gordon and Ruby Kirkman; uncle, Charles Sanders; uncle and aunt, Mark (Debbie) Rodgers.

A Private Family Visitation was held at Keepes Funeral Home. A Celebration of Clayton’s Life will be held at a later date.
