Donald J. Parker, 87, of Mount Camel, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 6, 1938, in Elgin, Illinois, the son of Joe and Francis (Petry) Parker. Don married Ruthie McDowell on July 9, 1960, and together they enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage centered on their family.
Don deeply loved his family and treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren. For forty years, he owned and operated a photography studio in Princeton, where he took great pride in capturing meaningful memories for families. Don was highly artistic and enjoyed painting signs and old hot rods. He also found joy in woodcarving and woodworking. A lover of the outdoors, Don especially enjoyed archery and bow hunting. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
Don will be remembered by his loving wife, Ruthie Parker of Mt. Carmel; son, Dean Parker of Mt. Carmel; daughter, Jenny (Brett) Speir of Albion; grandchildren, Stacey (Caleb) Gawthorp, Brad (Ashley) Berberich, Nikki (Kris) Grindle, Dakota Parker, Colton (Mandi) Speir; great grandchildren, Tucker, Treyson, Tayah, McKenna, Briyer, Max, Alex, Landon, Maddie, Kaylee, Gemma; and sister, Phyllis Moore. Don was preceded in death by his parents.
In keeping with Don’s wishes, no public services will be held at this time.
