Beverly M. Schafer, 83, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, September 6, 2024, at Oakview Nursing and Rehab, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 6, 1941, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Paul Lucas and Bernard and Pauline (Humphrey) Walter. She married George Ernie Schafer on April 29, 1961, and he preceded her in death.
Beverly earned a master’s degree in education and was a devoted High School teacher for many years. She began her career in St. Francisville, Illinois, then onto Lawrenceville High School and lastly at Mount Carmel High School until her retirement. Beverly enjoyed traveling and was proud that she visited all fifty states in the USA. She also greatly enjoyed her European travel experiences. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Beverly leaves behind two children, Sheila (Larry) Osburn, and Pamela (Tim) Kiefer; grandchildren, Eric, Sean, Sarah and Daniel Osburn, Zack Kiefer; three sisters, Jayne Schalk, Judy Lewis, Mary (Rob) Weaver; several loved nieces and nephews.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, David Lucas, Joe Walter; nephew, Joe Walter II; brothers-in-law, Clyde Lewis, and Farley Schalk.
A Rosary Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 13, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Prior to the service, no public visitation will be held.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held immediately following the Rosary with Fr. Robert Zwilling officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
