Elizabeth J. “Betty” Burns, 72, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Wabash General Hospital. She was born on April 6, 1952 in Mount Carmel, the daughter of Elwood and Dorothy (Miller) Burns.
Betty had a Masters Degree in Education and spent several years working in the registrar’s office at Oakland City University where she made many friendships. In her free time, Betty enjoyed quilting and making gifts for family and friends. When she was able, she enjoyed singing with the Wabash County Singers. Betty loved the game show network and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Betty will be remembered by her brother John Thomas Burns and wife, Diana; niece, Stacey (Brian) Hackler; nephew, Matthew T. (Tonya) Burns; two great nieces, Morgan Jaye (Justin) Tusing, and Addison Rae Burns; one great nephew, Will Hackler; special friends, Becky and Jim Whitlow.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 27, 2024 at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Mark Richison officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to Parkview Christian Church.
