Mary Ann DeStefano, 85

Mary Ann DeStefano, 85, was born in Spencer County, Indiana on February 7, 1938 to James A. and Mary (Byrne) Hasenmyer. She died Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Shepherd Premier Senior Living in Oregon, Illinois, surrounded by the love of her family.

Mary Ann graduated from Greenville High School in 1956 and attended Greenville College. She enjoyed playing individual sports, such as tennis, while attending Greenville College.

After attending college, Mary Ann lived in Chicago for a number of years where she worked as a nanny and family cook. She also worked in a medical clinic and taught Sunday school.

During her time in Chicago, Mary Ann married her first husband, Ernest Turffs, in 1966 and had a son.

After moving to Mount Carmel, she worked as a secretary for a local geologist and managed the Dupli Copy Shop in the former Petroleum building.

In 1986, she married Anthony DeStefano Sr and they enjoyed almost 25 years of traveling, camping, and fishing.

Mary Ann is survived by a son, James (Jackie) Turffs; two granddaughters, Rachael and Lauren Turffs; one stepson, Tony (Diane) DeStefano; one step grandson Steven (Kayla) DeStefano; one step great-grandson, Henry DeStefano; a sister, Jane (Clint) Maxwell; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, her parents, her husband, her sister Catherine Hasenmyer, and brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Joyce Hasenmyer.

Mary Ann enjoyed singing, quilting, cooking, fishing, and working in her yard. She lived a long life and loved her family dearly. Although her presence will be missed, she will forever be loved.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2023 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2023 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Garner officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mary Ann’s memory to Wabash Rally Against Cancer (WRAC). Envelopes will be at the funeral home or may be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
