Phyllis “Joan” Hensley, 95

Phyllis “Joan” Hensley, 95, of Princeton, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, July 22, 2023, at her home she built with her husband  soon after they were married. She was surrounded by her loving family.

 Services will be held Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at the Chapel of Short- Cunningham Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery on College Drive in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

 Visitation will be Wednesday, July 26, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home.

 Phyllis “Joan” was the first born of the late Charles and Mary Bethyl (Griess) Armstrong in Mt. Carmel, Illinois on January 6, 1928.  She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in the Class of 1945, then attended Beauty School and opened the Joy-Ann Beauty Shop in her parents’ home. She  married Arthur Clinton Hensley January 23, 1948, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She moved to Indiana where they built their home in 1965.   To this union eight children were born:  Paula, Pamela, Linda, Kathy, Steve, Dana, Larry, and David. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of fifty-five years Arthur, infant son, David Arthur Hensley and son Dana Keith Hensley; grandson Michael Ryan Hensley, great granddaughter Faith Isabelle Savory, and siblings  Robert Charles Armstrong, Evelyn Joyce McClellan.

 Those left to cherish her memory include four daughters, Paula Hensley, Pamela (Dennis) Doner, Linda Reed, Kathryn (Joe) Dauz; two sons, Steve (Marcia) Hensley and Larry Hensley; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and brother Michael Edward (Maggie) Armstrong.

Joan was a member of The Columbia Baptist Church and the New Life Church of the Nazarene in Princeton. Her ninety-five and a half years covered many events: the Great Depression, Word War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Space Program, Computers, Television, and many other important events.
