Colette F. Grigsby, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, peacefully passed away Monday, June 26, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family.
Services will be held Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Colette will be buried by her husband at Royal Oaks Cemetery in Bruceville, Indiana, immediately following the service. There will be no visitation.
Colette was born in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, August 14, 1951, to Joseph and Gisele (Oudoux) Smith. She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in the class of 1969, going on to college and receiving an associate degree. She also went to Gem City College where she became a watch maker. On May 22, 1978, Colette married Arthur L. Grigsby. They enjoyed sixteen years together until his passing in 1994.
Colette started working for her family business, Smith Jewelers, when she was twelve accomplishing all aspects of the jewelry business. She worked there until her passing. Colette participated in college plays for over twenty-five years. She enjoyed designing the stage sets and performing in those shows. Collette also was an KCBS Official Judge, traveling and judging BBQ Festivals. For over ten years she helped run Wabash RibberFest BBQ Festival in Mt. Carmel.
Surviving Colette are her mother, Gisele Smith of Mt. Carmel; a sister, Yvette and her husband Don Wilkinson of Mt. Carmel; nephews, Christopher Harrison and Neal Stein; and great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her father, Joe Smith; husband, Arthur L. Grigsby; and nephews, Michael Harrison and Joseph Stein.
