Wayne Knight Morris, 83

Wayne Knight Morris, 83, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital, Newburgh, Indiana.

He was born October 25, 1939, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, to Robert A. and Mabel (Knight) Morris. Wayne graduated from Mount Carmel High School. He was a graduate of The University of Illinois and attended Michigan State.

Wayne worked in the electronics industry before starting his career at Wabash Valley College. Wayne served the students at Wabash Valley College for nearly 30 years starting in 1991. Most of those as a faculty member, teaching Computer Science, but he also had a two-year stint as Dean of Instruction from 2010-2012. He was also an independent IT consultant. He was renowned for his ability to remember the smallest of details. He had such a community spirit for the Wabash Valley College Family and wanted people to gather and fellowship.

Wayne was a life member of the Mount Carmel Elks #715 for 59 years. He loved watching Jeopardy and could answer most of the questions. Wayne was an avid tennis and bridge player, where he was a Life Master in Duplicate Bridge. He loved spending time with family, friends, and his beloved dogs. He was also a huge sports fan. Wayne taught Sunday School to the senior adult class at the First General Baptist Church in Mount Carmel, Illinois where he was a lifetime member.

Wayne is survived by his cousins; Ann (Bob) Tennes of Mount Carmel, Illinois, Robert Knight of Granger, Indiana, George, Mitch, Gail, and Clancy McClellan, and many friends.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, infant brother, Robert Austin Morris, Jr.

A visitation will be Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home. Graveside service to follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery, Mount Carmel, Illinois, at 12:00 noon.
