Rosemary Coleman, 97

Rosemary Coleman, 97, of Indianapolis, Indiana, peacefully passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023, in Indianapolis.

She was born September 3, 1925, in Sullivan, Indiana, the daughter of Harold and Faye (McGarvey) Martin. Rosemary married Gilbert E. Coleman on July 6, 1945. They were married 66 years prior to his death in 2012.

Mrs. Coleman, who graduated from Sullivan High School in Sullivan, Indiana, and attended Indiana State University prior to marriage, was the consummate post-war wife and mother. She was the caring mother of four children, a PTA parent, Girl Scout leader, a gifted seamstress and quilter, and multitalented in all the domestic arts.

Due to job advancement, the Coleman family lived in Oblong, Illinois, Washington, Indiana, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Chillicothe, Missouri, Joliet, Illinois and Mt. Vernon, Illinois before moving to Beech Grove and later Indianapolis for retirement. Blessed with a beautiful alto voice, even into her mid-90s, Mrs. Coleman was a member of the church choir in virtually every community in which she lived. Most recently, she was a member of Impact Bethany Christian Church in Beech Grove, Indiana. She also was as avid gardener, reader, and quilter.

Survivors include children, Janice (David) Krohne of Indianapolis, Indiana, Nancy (Ron) Summers of Rock Island, Illinois, Jay Coleman of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Tim (Tana) Coleman of Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Mrs. Coleman is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and siblings, Dick and Kenny Martin and Betty (Martin) Watson.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 4, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until noon at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, with a graveside Funeral Service following at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 1827 College Drive, Mt. Carmel, where she will be laid to rest beside her loving husband.

Memorials may be made to Evangelical United Methodist Church (EUM) 2010 N. Cherry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
