James Lynn Homan, 77, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, January 27, 2023, at The Villas of Holly Brook, Reflections Memory Care, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 27, 1945, in Salem, Illinois, the son of James E. Homan and Grace (Hubbard) Homan. He graduated from Salem High School with the class of 1963 and married Leta Ball on September 4, 1965, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Salem, Illinois.
Jim obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southern Illinois University-C with his first three years of college being at Oklahoma State University, in Stillwater, OK. Upon graduation, he joined the Marine Corp Reserves and did basic training at Camp Lejeune, NC. Jim served in Evansville, IN, until his medical discharge caused by injuries from a major car accident. Later he received a master’s degree in business from Kettering University in Flint, Michigan.
Jim retired from Snap-On-Tools after thirty-one years as the cost accounting supervisor of the Mount Carmel plant. He was an active member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, serving a time as church treasurer and lay member to annual conference, as well as being the church custodian for thirty years. He served on the Wabash Valley College Foundation Board and was active in the Mount Carmel Rotary Club. In his earlier days, Jim was known as an avid tennis player, Little League coach, and runner.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Leta; three children, Jeffrey Homan of Owensville, IN, Mark Homan, and Jennifer Guard, both of Mount Carmel; granddaughters, Kendal (Satchel) Patberg, Kracell Guard, Kenadie Homan; and a bonus grandson, Talon Guard.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Virginia Schenandoah.
The family would like to say thank you to the former and present staff at The Villas of Holly Brook, Reflections Memory Care, for their care during Jim’s end of life.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2023, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2023, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Sheila Kelly officiating. Following the service, Jim will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
