Harriet Joan Schuler, 87

Harriet Joan Schuler, 87, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully, Friday, June 3, 2022, at the home of her daughter Theresa. She was born on November 27, 1934, in Christopher, Illinois, the youngest child of John and Anna (Gallik) Demaret. She married Verne Schuler in Mount Carmel on October 10, 1964, and they enjoyed twenty-eight years of marriage until his passing on October 27, 1992.

Harriet had many jobs in her life. She was a switchboard operator and worked at Meissners Manufacturing in her early life. In the 1980’s, she worked at the Wagon Wheel. She loved to crochet and had a great love for animals. She was a member of the Eagles #3066 and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Harriet leaves behind a son, Michael (Cindy) Crummley of Mt. Carmel; daughters, Theresa (Kendall) Cunningham of Mt. Carmel, and Diane Schuler of Biloxi, MS; five grandchildren, Jared (Julie) Crummley of Mt. Carmel, Aaron (Jennifer) Crummley of Evansville, IN, Mark (Alix) Crummley of Lancaster, IL, Rebecca (John) Stoltz of Auburn, AL, and William (Becca) Crummley of Bone Gap, IL; thirteen great-grandchildren; bonus family, Chris (Mary) Mondoni of Christopher, IL, and George (Judy) Perhach of Mesa, AZ.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Marie Roberts-Kieffer; nephews, John, and Jim Roberts.

The family of Harriet would like to thank the staff at Residential Hospice for their kindness and compassion in her final months. Theresa would like to extend a special thank you to Marla Warmak for her kindness, care, and assistance with her mom, also in her final months.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Robert Zwilling as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery where Harriet will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Verne.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Harriet’s memory to Wabash County Animal Shelter or St. Joseph’s Indian School which was her and Verne’s favorite charity.
