Gail Elaine Jones Byus, 78, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 26, 1943 in Winchester, Illinois, the daughter of Floyd A. and Mary I. (Gregory) Jones.
Gail will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She treasured her time that she spent with family and always looked forward to traveling to new places with them. In her free time, Gail loved crocheting and knitting gifts for her family. She loved being outdoors gardening and spending time on the golf course. Gail also enjoyed sharing a good story and funny jokes with family and friends adding colorful details and “Gailisms” to her stories. Gail worked at Palm & Associates Land Surveying in New Carlisle, Indiana where she retired in 2016 after eighteen years of dedicated service. She also was a professional design seamstress and enjoyed helping people with their alterations. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
Gail will be remembered by her three children, Rhonda Byus McBride, Ann R. Byus and Donald L. Byus II; three grandchildren, Sydney McBride, Mary Alex (Robert) McBride Christoffers, and Billy Unger; siblings, Gerald “Toby” Jones, Patsy (Steve) Smock, Betty Jones, and Darlene Jones; many loved nieces and nephews.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents; and infant brother, Eddie Jones.
In keeping with Gail’s wishes cremation will take place and no formal services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made in Gail’s memory to Wabash Area Development, Inc. (WADI),119 W. 12th Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863 or to a Veteran Charity of your choice.
