Donald J. “Donny” Smith, 68, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021, in Mount Carmel. He was born on January 3, 1953, in Mount Carmel, the son of Raymond C. and Wilma (Allen) Smith.
Donny faithfully served his country in the United States Army. He was employed in the construction industry as a pipe fitter with Zachry Construction. He also was involved in farming. Donny was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed riding his bike. In his spare time, he enjoyed his hobby of gathering and scrapping metal. He often visited with friends at the VFW where he was a member. Donny had a special place in his heart for all children and was an avid supporter of St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Donny enjoyed spending time at the river with his family and friends. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart. Donny was a member of the First Baptist Church. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Donny leaves behind three daughters, Kerry Greentree, Kristel Edmondson, Karabeth Edmondson; grandchildren, Neal Greentree, Krystina Bredemeier, Malachai Lloyd, Kyla Pollard, Kyle Pollard; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Robert (Gloria) Smith, John (Carmen) Smith, Pat (Jeanie Lynn) Smith, Stuart (Pat) Smith; two sisters, Marjory (Steve) Thompson, Jennifer (Rob) Huff; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Donny was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Mike, Roger, and Richard Smith.
A Graveside Service, with Full Military Honors, will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Friendsville Cemetery in Wabash County with Pastor Stephen Freels officiating.
