Brenda Louise Schmitt, 73, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, peacefully passed away Monday, March 8, 2021, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 20, 1947, in Bellmont, Illinois, the daughter of Lewis and Vivian (Mastaw) Bobbitt. Brenda graduated from Mt. Carmel High School.
Brenda was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary in which she was a past president, the Eagles Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. Brenda was a co-owner and cook at Sister’s Home Café. After it closed, she cooked for various clubs in Mt. Carmel. Brenda was also an in-home caregiver. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to tell stories, and had a contagious laugh. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Left to cherish Brenda’s memory is her children Renee (Gary) Pearson of Mt. Carmel, Billy (Samantha) Peach of Carmi, Illinois, and Michael (April) Peach of Boonville, Indiana; grandchildren Wesley Pearson, Alex Peach, Devin Peach, Camron Peach, Thomas Hughes and Cameron Hughes; five greatgrandchildren; siblings Judy Maass of Nauvoo, Illinois, Mike (Tonya) Bobbitt of Mt. Carmel, Eddie (Shirley) Bobbitt of Mt. Carmel, Sherry Bailey of Browns, Illinois, Rodger (Bonnie) Bobbitt of Browns, Illinois, Steven (Ilona) Bobbitt of Mt. Carmel, and Myrna Moffitt of Richland Hills, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents and brother Ron Smith.
Family and friends are welcome to gather for a visitation Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 12:00 noon until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Burial will immediately follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
COVID-19 precautions will be in place. Wearing face coverings, social distancing and use of hand sanitizer is encouraged.
