Merril “Richard” Potter Jr., of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021 at home surrounded by the love of his family. He was born January 28, 1954, the son of Merril Richard Potter Sr. and Joyce Marie (Garrett) Potter. He married Edna Sue Garrett on August 24, 1973 and together they have enjoyed forty-seven years of marriage.
Richard was a simple man. He operated a construction business for many years. He had a passion for cars and anything that ran fast. Richard was a kind man and enjoyed helping others. His family was dear to him and loved spending time with them. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Richard leaves behind his parents, Merril and Joyce Potter, Sr. of Albion, Illinois; loving wife, Edna Potter; daughter, Megan Byrns and husband Matthew; extended children, Eli “Firefoot” Landingham and wife Melanie; Amanda Barnett Debault and husband Eric; seven extended grandchildren; grand dogs, Bosco, Roxie and Tank; brothers, Mike Potter, Gary Potter, Larry Potter, Mark Potter and wife Francie; brother-in-law, John Garrett and wife Debbie; nephews, Brendan Potter, Samuel Potter and Kyle Garrett.
In keeping with Richard’s wishes, cremation will take place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
