Stephen Harrell, 73, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019 at River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton, Indiana surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on September 5, 1946 in Lancaster, IL, the son of Billie R. and Ruth Irene (Price) Harrell. He married LaJean Doades on November 27, 1970 at the EUM Church in Mount Carmel, IL. Together they treasured forty-six years of marriage before her passing on March 3, 2017.
Stephen was a member of the 1964 graduating class of Mount Carmel High School. He also attended Wabash Valley College. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam War. Stephen was the local Verizon Phone Service manager for many years and covered seven counties in Southern Illinois. He was a member of the American Legion for thirty-eight years and was a lifetime member of the VFW. Before his wife’s passing, the two of them greatly enjoyed traveling to Branson, Missouri to watch the various shows and visiting the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. Stephen liked spending time with his friends at Fast Break Convenience Store, enjoying a cup of coffee and visiting. He attended Gospel Kingdom Church. Stephen dearly loved his family and will be deeply missed.
Stephen will forever be remembered by his children; Stephen Harrell and wife Jennifer of Evansville, IN, Lisa Pfeil and husband Stan of Owensville, IN; grandchildren, Austin Turner, Kolten Turner, Tyler Harrell, Max Harrell, Nicolas Lewis, Adam, Seth and Jacob Pfeil; two great-grandsons; one brother, Phillip Harrell and several nieces and nephews.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, LaJean; and one brother, Rolla Harrell.
Family and friends are invited for a Visitation from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Gospel Kingdom Church, 1440 West Third Street, Mt. Carmel, IL.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 8, 2019 at Gospel Kingdom Church, with Pastor Scott Burr officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
