Shirley F. Fisher, 89, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehab. She was born on February 27, 1929 in Evansville, Indiana, the daughter of George and Frances (Eakins) Goodfred. Shirley married Gerald Fisher on June 20, 1958 and he preceded her in death.
Shirley spent ten years teaching Physical Education at Mount Carmel High School. In her younger years she loved a good game of tennis and playing bridge with friends. She loved her neighbors and would enjoy visiting with them when she was outside caring for her dog, Cocoa. Shirley always looked forward to her trips south to her condo in Cocoa Beach, Florida. She was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church in Mount Carmel and truly loved her church family.
Shirley will be remembered by her cousins, Virgina (Tom) Fortner of Joelton, IN, George (Norita) Goodfred of Nashville, TN, Barbara (Tom) Reese of Nashville, TN and David (Barbara) Stein of Prospect, KY; special friend, Barbara Locke of Mount Carmel, IL; and her faithful dog, Cocoa.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Gerald Fisher.
In keeping with Shirley’s wishes she will be cremated and no formal services will be held. A private family burial service will be held at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Carmel, IL.
