Mary Edna Hicks, 96, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care & Rehab surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 5, 1922 in Risco, Missouri the daughter of Jess and Rachel (Seitz) Wheeler. Mary married Robert W. Hicks on April 26, 1941 and he preceded her in death.
Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Some of her fondest memories were spending time with family at Kentucky Lake. She made many friendships while working at the Index Store and Target in Mount Carmel. She often spoke of her time working at Becky’s Café that was located across from Mount Carmel High School where the students would often eat. Mary was a faithful member of Community Church of God. A kind and nurturing woman, Mary was loved by many and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
Mary will be remembered by her daughter, Jeanne Morales and husband, Larry of Mankato, MN; daughter in law, Mary Lee Hicks of Mount Carmel; eight grandchildren, Terry (Jeanna) Hicks, Tracy (Darren) Hodson, Tammy (Jeff) Johnston, Tim (Amy) Morales, Michele (Dale) Bednarek, Heather Hicks, April Norrie and Kevin Parker; sixteen great grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren; sister, Betty Gard of Mount Carmel.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Hicks; two sons, Larry Hicks and Jeffery Hicks; grandson, Jason Hicks; sisters, Kathryn M. Hebert, Addebell Wheeler, Hazel Strohm and Pansy May Wheeler; brothers, George Wheeler, TR Wheeler, Leroy Wheeler and William Wheeler.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Thursday, December 27, 2018 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
Graveside Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mount Carmel.
