Elaine Beth Higgins, 80, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on September 26, 1938 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the daughter of Raymond and Doris (Wayland) Wilson. Elaine married John David Higgins on April 21, 1957 and together they enjoyed sixty-one years of marriage.
Elaine loved her family and loved shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. Among Elaine’s hobbies she enjoyed being outdoors tending her flower garden and spending time on the golf course with her family and friends. She was an avid reader and loved her book club. Elaine enjoyed crafting and making gifts for her family. Elaine was a member of the Mount Carmel Elks Lodge #715 and was also a member of the Birthday Club. She felt strongly about being an organ donor and wanted to be able to offer that gift to others. Elaine will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
Elaine will be remembered by her loving husband, David Higgins of Mount Carmel; son, Michael Higgins of Mount Carmel, IL; three daughters, Angela (Joe) Lofton of Allendale, Sandra Higgins of Mount Carmel and Debbie (Billy) Terrell of Grayville, IL; five grandchildren, Timothy Lofton, Tura Buchanan, Steven Eagan, Heather Southwood and Wendy Terrell; seven great grandchildren; sister, Kim (Roy) Henderson of Joshua, TX; several nieces and nephews.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Shirley Burgardt.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 1:00 p.m.- 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2018 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2018 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
