Kidd M. Harkleroad, 90, of Mount Carmel, IL passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at River Oaks in Princeton, IN. He was born on April 12, 1927 in Imboden, Virginia the son of Malen and Emma (Barnett) Harkleroad. Kidd married Lynne (Johnson) Wood on June 13, 1980.
Kidd faithfully served his Country in the United States Navy during World War II. He moved to Wabash County in the 1970’s to help open Amax Coal. Kidd worked underground as a coal miner for forty one years. He was a people person and enjoyed making friendships everywhere he went. He loved his family and was a grandfather to many. Among his hobbies, Kidd enjoyed woodworking, traveling with family, square dancing and attending NASCAR Races. Kidd will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
Kidd will be remembered by his wife, Lynne Harkleroad of Mount Carmel; sons, Andy (Roxanne) Harkleroad of Roanoke, VA, Brad Wood of Mount Carmel and Bruce (Chris) Wood of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Nancy Erickson of Roanoke, VA; sixteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brothers, Jack (Barbara) Harkleroad of Big Stone Gap, VA and Jerry (Bonnie) Harkleroad of Chesapeake, VA; several nieces and nephews.
Kidd was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Harkleroad and daughter, Cathy Davis.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Memorial Service to begin at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October, 14, 2017 at the Free Methodist Church, 412 Poplar Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863 with Pastor Deron Colgan officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the Memorial Service. Following the service Military Honors will follow at the Church.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kidd’s memory to the Free Methodist Church. Envelopes will be at the funeral home or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
