Mt. Carmel Man Arrested Following Incident At MCHS

On 9/28/23, at approximately 12:22pm, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Clayton S. Kirkman, age 37, of Mt. Carmel for Disorderly Conduct and Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer following an incident at Mt. Carmel High School.

Police were called to the top of the MCHS stadium after it was reported that Kirkman was yelling at students and making inappropriate statements.  Kirkman left in a white Toyota as a school administrator approached the area.  After reviewing video that confirmed Kirkman’s identity, police looked for and located Kirkman at 9th & Mulberry.  K

irkman was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct and transported to the Wabash County Jail.  Kirkman had just been released from the Wabash County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond earlier on an unrelated case.

While at the jail, Kirkman threw water from a water bottle on the arresting officer, jail staff, and the pre-trial services officer.  Kirkman was given an additional charge for Aggravated Battery and is being held pending a pre-trial detention determination.

Kirkman was also issued a letter from Mt. Carmel High School Administration barring him from the property.

MCPD Chief: Lock Your Vehicles!

A recent report of a stolen vehicle has prompted Mt. Carmel Police Chief Mike McWilliams to issue a warning….don’t leave your keys in your vehicle. McWilliams said the vehicle was parked at a local pizza restaurant as the owner ran inside to pick up their order and left the keys behind. That was enough time for the car thief to take off and steal the vehicle ultimately rolling it into another vehicle. McWilliams said drivers should never leave the keys in the vehicle and certainly not leave it running. That word of advice will come in handy soon when colder temperatures arrive and drivers are tempted to start the vehicle to warm it up and go back inside leaving behind an inviting target for a would-be car thief.

COUNTRY Financial Representative Tia Morgan is pleased to support the Allendale Rural Fire Protection District with a donation of $1,500. The funds will be used for the purchase of a new automated external defibrillator device (AED.) Morgan recently shared the support in a check presentation.

“Firefighters do more than fight fires,” said Morgan. “Sometimes they’re first on the scene to provide urgent care for people in distress. By helping the district purchase a new AED device, it is hopefully another way we can support local firefighters in their lifesaving work.”

COUNTRY Financial has donated more than $5 million since 2020 to organizations and programs that support first responders, active-duty service members and veterans, supporting the company’s vision to “enrich lives in the communities we serve.” The Operation Helping Heroes program was created in 2015 to support non-profit events and programs that benefit active-duty service members, veterans, and their families. Later, the program expanded to include first responders and teachers.
