City Cracking Down On Delinquent Golf Cart/UTV Stickers

The Mt. Carmel City Council has put golf cart and UTV owners on notice, make sure your registration to operate on city streets is current. Dozens of golf cart and UTV owners are operating on expired stickers and the city council is looking to bring those delinquent stickers up to date. When the ordinance to allow for their operation went into effect, the stickers were good for one year from the time they were purchased. The problem, according to City Commissioner Eric Ikemire is people forget when their stickers were due for renewal…

Now those who have not gotten a 2021 sticker will have to get that sticker before a 2022 sticker is issued. And now, all stickers will expire on January 1st. The council did allow for a two-week grace period giving operators until January 14th to make sure they’ve gotten this year’s and next year’s stickers. Police Chief Mike McWilliams said the stickers are available anytime, 24-7 at the police department. Proof of insurance will also need to be presented before stickers are issued.

City Council Votes To Allow MCPD Officers To Live Outside Of Wabash County

A lack of workers seems to be facing every facet of the economy these days and that has now spread to the Mt. Carmel Police Department. At Monday’s City Council meeting, Mayor Joe Judge said a recent Illinois Municipal League meeting he attended brought the issue to the forefront..

To help widen the pool of potential police officer candidates, the city council has decided to allow officers to live not only in Wabash County, but also Edwards, White, Lawrence, and Richland Counties. Judge explained that currently, in order to meet the residency requirement, some MCPD officers rent an apartment locally while having their primary residence in another county. The only caveat to living out of county will be officers will not be allowed to take their squad cars home as is presently done if they live in Wabash County.

MCPD's Newest Officer Introduced To City Council

The Mt. Carmel City Council this week got the opportunity to meet the police department’s newest officer…canine Eleven. K-9 officer Daniel Hopper says Eleven comes to Mt. Carmel from overseas…

Hopper and the three year old Eleven began training this week in Decatur. Eleven replaced the police department’s former dog Ace who retired earlier this year.
